I stayed there for a week and was bitten by bedbugs all over my body. To save myself a few dollars on a room, I ended up spending $50 at the doctor for an appointment, $50 on medicine to clear up the bites, $60 to dry clean all of my clothes to make sure I didn't bring anything home and threw away a $200 piece of luggage. Plus the obsessive fear I now have in checking my own home for bugs, which could cost THOUSANDS of dollars to exterminate. Please don't stay here. It's not worth the risk.

What it lacks in modernisation it makes up for 10 fold in spirit. As a seasoned traveller I can say the staff are the best I have ever met. They went the extra mile at every occasion to ensure our every reasonable need was met. Shout out to craig who's tips in the city showed us the best new Orleans had to offer.

It made sense to book a bed at this hostel: an employee was going to pick me up at the airport late and early the next morning I could walk to my rental car pick-up. All that and I'd be saving $30-$40 on a bed I only needed for a few hours.

I didn't count on the bedbugs. I was only in the room seven hours, my bags an hour more. The next day I was covered with bed bug bites--over 200 and some of them good-sized welts--which meant I couldn't stay with friends the next two weeks, so had to buy hotel rooms while I was on tour. The bites, as aggravating as they were, were one thing. But the bugs must have gotten to my bags, then the rental car because over the next week I continued to suffer bites. The worst was after driving the car several hours one night after a gig.

Though I treated the bites from the beginning, the second week I became even more proactive. I began frequently washing my clothes and bags, drying them extra long and extra hot, and kept my possessions in sealed black trash bags. As I researched more-- and continued to suffer the occasional bite--I tried other treatments (mainly extreme heat, which is supposed to kill them).

Now it's more than a month after staying at the hostel and I'm still occasionally getting bit, and it looks like they're now in my home--and my girlfriend is not happy. I've spent a fair bit of time the past month dealing with this problem, and have spent a fair bit of money. And now it looks like I'm going to be spending more time and more money on this. What really saddens me is that despite my best efforts to get rid of them, I haven't, and as a touring artist, I'm now responsible for potentially spreading the problem.

This place was not very clean or comfortable, but the people were very nice.
