“My stay was excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I stayed in this Residence Inn for two nights - a Thursday and Friday. I was attending a conference at another hotel just up the road, but this one was much less expensive and had a full kitchen which is very important to me. I was really very impressed with my stay. I can understand what some other reviewers are referring to when they say that the hotel needs some updating, and the bar across the street did have some very loud music for a short while one night while I was there, but overall I really enjoyed my stay. The desk staff was extremely nice to me - especially Eric, he was very helpful. When I got to the hotel I was hungry and asked how I could get something to eat. Eric gave me several menus from the area that deliver, and I called one of them when I got to my room. I also asked for them to call me a cab for Saturday morning to take me to the airport, and they were very nice and remembered to do so. I was very happy that they called a private cab service for me - I wasn't expecting it, but it was great, and it was the same price as the cab that brought me to the hotel from the airport. The hotel also has a very nice breakfast with several options, and that was so great for me. I didn't end up having time to go to the supermarket (there is a Publix quite close to the hotel), and most Residence Inns I have stayed at don't have a breakfast because of the full kitchens in the rooms. My room was very nice - the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of room, the bathroom was nice and clean, and did not look old to me. The only tiny complaint I would have is that the refrigerator made a lot of noise, so that probably needs to be updated. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room on one of the higher levels, and it would be better to be facing away from...

“Needs Major Updates”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel. Both times they've put me on the "garden" level or first floor which looks out onto a parking lot to the rear of the property with bars on the windows. The rooms are loud with street noise unless you get one on a higher level. The furnishings in the rooms should be an embarrassment to the Marriott chain--extremely old and uncomfortable. The carpet is likewise old, nasty, and darkly colored so as to show every piece of debris. The room layouts are awkward, as this used to be an apartment building later converted to a hotel. The room sizes are quite large by hotel standards, but I think most would prefer smaller, more updated rooms. Each room does have a kitchenette, standard for Residence Inn's. The hotel breakfast was free, but again was not high quality. The food was rather gross and dried out. The parking lot at this hotel has TINY spaces, so it's definitely the kind of place where you will get your car dinged up. Really the only positive thing I can say about this hotel is it's close to a metro stop that will get you to the airport, it has some nearby restaurants, and you can walk to places like Georgia Tech. A good midtown location, but you have other options in this area and you should heed my warning and take these other options! Marriott needs to step in and update this property, which honestly is an embarrassment to their chain.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have bars on the windows and no balconies. Get something on the second floor or hi...

“Wouldn't Stay Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Stayed at this hotel for one night and was not impressed. I mistakenly went to the other Residence Inn in midtown and when I came to this one and saw the hotel, I was disappointed and wished my reservation was at the other location! It's called the "historic" location, but it really was just old. The room has a kitchen area and I swear the appliances were older than I am (I'm in my late twenties). Anytime the people in the room above me were in the bathroom I could hear the water and the plumbing. I was on the ground floor and I heard noise through the night, I think it was the ac, I'm not sure. The picture quality on my tv was poor. There isn't wireless internet but you can use ethernet, only there wasn't an ethernet cord in my room. There is a free continental breakfast but I didn't stay to partake. When I stay in a hotel, I like to stay somewhere within the same caliber of my home or better and this was not the case. I guess the positive of the hotel is that the staff was friendly.

Bottom Line: Wouldn't stay again and they should make upgrades

“A home away from home, British Columbia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

My wife and I found the hotel very comfortable and relaxing. The hotel crew were very friendly and easy to talk to. Since we were arriving from a different way of life and life style the staff were very helpful in helping with directions, entertainment, etc. While we were there we more than once complemented the chefs on the service and food they served. Having breakfast at the hotel saved not only money but more time to relax and enjoy the city. There were no problems with check in or check out. The bed was the best we have ever slept in. Actually my wife wrote down the name and brand to see if we have them in Canada. The location was fantastic with everything needed very close. Even a grocery service was available. A brilliant kitchen in our suite. Some people complained but since we weren't staying in the elevator its size was not a problem as elevators go. We have stayed in hotels that were three times the price of this hotel and our room, in our opinion, was much more comfortable. When we return in the Spring we will definitly stay there again. Thanks again for your incredible Southern hospitality and friendship.

Room Tip: We have only stayed in one suite so we're not sure which rooms could be better but the one we st...

“Time for some updates!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I previously reviewed this hotel and reated it Excellent - however, I recently stayed here again, and my room was nowhere near what it should have been. I guess I just lucked up during my last visit, but I saw many opportunities for upgrades, updates, and just plain needs for maintenance. In my room, the kitchen appliances were obviously very old, dented, and when I touched the oven door handle, it fell off. The laminate floor in the kitchen area was buckled, and much of the carpet was in need of being replaced or at least restretched. The employees of the hotel claim that the rooms "retain their historic charm" - but historic does not mean old and broken down. The sanitary rating in the area where the breakfasts and evening meals are served has been downgraded and is in the "B" rating range because of lack of proper handling of food and cleanliness.

Come on Marriott - this is a great location, and there is so much potential for this place to be a gem....but for now, it's a chunk of coal.....
