Zanzibar was a last minute choice for us and we were not disappointed with Baraza. It was wonderful in every aspect. It stands out for both my husband and me. We both travel frequently for both business and pleasure and everything about this resort was superb. It was 5 star, professional but without being stuffy. For our 11 year old son it was also a great destination. The staff were very attentive but were well trained not to be intrusive. The accommodation was excellent and we all enjoyed the food. We found there was a good choice to suit us all. We enjoyed some great fishing in the lagoon. The chef kindly prepared the fish we caught. We all learnt to dive and enjoyed the snorkelling. We look forward to going back.

“Phenomenal”

Coming from the US, Tanzania is a long trip, but if you are on Safari ending the experiece with a a few days in Baraza is well worth it. The facilities are top notch and on par with any 5 star hotel.

The villas are incredible, large, clean and extremely private.. and a welcome oasis after a week in the bush. The pool and the beach are are out of this world as well. The spa was also great, we went twice for massages and also on par with any high end facility I have ever been to.

The staff is extremely welcoming and pleasant and truly made the experience that much better. They did everything possible to make the trip pleasant and enjoyable. They could not have been nicer or done a better job.

I saw much written about the food.. frankly the food was fine. The meals were well presented and in my opinion more than adequate. It wasnt 5 star, but wasnt far off, but the service of the staff, the presentation of the food was 5 star. Please keep in mind where you are, and access to some fresh food isn't always the easy i would assume. But you will not walk away hungry or disappointed; i promise you.. If you are a foodie and looking for a magical culinary experience, go to spain or france.

In summary, Baraza is the perfect end to a safari vacation. You will have all the comforts of a 5 star resort and the staff and facilities are high end. You will not be disappointed

“Top rate hotel in a wonderful country”

Visited Zanzibar for the first time and wasn't disappointed. The small plane transfer over from Dar (20mins) gave us some fatastic photo opportunities of the turquoise water surrounding the tiny islands. Zanzibar itself is a decent size, and the transfer to Baraza took 1hour (mostly due to some pretty poor roads).

Entering Baraza you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Oman (think the Chedi). Very friendly staff throughout the hotel, great spa (cheap relative to England, £50 for 60min massages) and a large site, with only 30 villas providing plenty of privacy.

The rooms are individual villas with plunge pools, large beds/bathrooms and decent amenities. We spent a lot of time at the main pool, large and surrounded by daybeds and well serviced.

Many comments on this hotel about the food, and the negative ones are unjust in my opinion. Every meal had plenty of options and was typically 4courses...we had grilled lobster 3different days and very rarely found a menu disappointing. The presentation is very top-end and contibutes to the quality feel of the meals. One day we had a private gazebo built on the beach for us and a 4course meal served to us there, an example of the efforts the hotel goes to.

The spa is luxouriously designed and offers a good selection of treatments, at very good rates. The gym was disappointing in terms of equipment.

I would 100% recommend this hotel, and Zanzibar itself, I will most certainly return in the future. Thanks

“Paradise”

We stayed at Barazza for 4 days after a safari, at the beginning of December. It was low season and the Hotel was very empty which on the one hand meant that we had the most fantastic attention from the staff but on the other did mean that ther was very little atmosphere in the hotel which, to be honest, suited us perfectly.
We had a villa right on the beach which was magical. You have plenty of lounging space in front of your villa, a reserved umbrella and beds on the beach itself (all of 20 metres away) and then if you fancy a swim, you adjourn easily to the magnificent swimming pool. The villa is beautifully appointed and spacious (very poor shower though - low pressure and could never get the temperature quite right)
Everything was perfect. Great food, beautifully served and presented at a different location for each meal. You can even ask them to make you lunch on a raft in the middle of the sea if you are so inclined!
The hotel is all inclusive - and that package was very generous. We could barely sit down without someone asking us to try out their latest cocktail, or assuming that I might just like a cold beer. Only premium spirits and wines are extra and to be honest the house wines and the regular spirits were more than adequate for us, Irritatingly, internet access is at a daily charge of $15 - why so many places make a charge for something that effectively costs them nothing, whilst at the same time plying you with alcohol all day long for free - is a complete mystery to me.
Staff were really friendly and delightful although many were being trained for the Xmas rush whlist we were there and still had some way to go!
All in all for the European traveller, I was wowed. I thought this as good as most of the Carribean places I have been to, without the need for jet lag.Go now before everyone else discovers it.

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room in the Hotel but i think the beach ones are fantastic

“Outstanding!!”

My husband and I stayed at Baraza for 8 days at the beginning of October. I can honestly say that our first reaction on arriving was 'WOW'. Our jaws hit the floor. This place is so opulent. The gardens are beautiful, the buildings and villas outstanding, the beach is a white sand paradise which was practically deserted during our whole stay. It is an intensely beautiful spot.

The quality of service is the best we have ever experienced. The food was out of this world. The breakfasts were buffet style and had everything you could think of. Even a 'make your own' bloody mary section, containing all the ingredients so you could do just that. Lunches were either buffet or set 4 course menu. The selection of food was so vast, we wanted to try everything. There were always chefs on hand to cook whatever you chose while you watched. Dinners were a lavish affair and consisted of 5 course meals or a themed buffet, the latter again with chefs on hand and such a vast selection of food, you didnt know which way to turn. All the food was of the highest quality and so delicious and great care was taken to ensure there was variety. We were there for 8 days and there was no repetition. Simply superb.

The staff are wonderful, eager to please and always smiling. The villa is vast, impeccably clean and just stunning. The quality of the resort, in every aspect, started exceptionally high and never wavered. We were so sad to leave but took away with us some fantastic memories and simply could not have chosen a better way to finish our honeymoon.
