The most beautiful and welcoming hotel, fragrant flowers in a cool fountain and fresh cloths and warm smiles greet you as you arrive. A totally relaxing spa, large pool, expansive beach front of white smooth pure sand and tropical fish on your doorstep. Delicious fresh food, lots of tempting choices and endless fruit smoothies and juices by the pool to keep you comfortable! High quality pool side entertainment in the evening, such as a local troop of acrbats from Stone Town and plenty to do during the day. Games room and kind carers on hand to look after children, table tennis and table football, snorkeling, boat trips, volley ball in the evening for the active. A dive centre to learn to scuba and kite surfing, windsurfing or catamaran available to sail. Wonderful air conditioned large rooms, wonderful nurse on hand if needed, enormous attention to detail at every turn. Perfect for honeymooners, families or couples and great international mix of clientel. Attentive smiling helpful staff, enormous employer and training centre for local people. Everyone a winner!

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for a room near the reception to have a shorter walk back and forth from the pool and be...

“Indian Ocean elegance!”

My family went to Baraza Resort and Spa in February of 2011 and had the most amazing time! We were already quite farmilar with the neighbouring properties that are owned by the same family (The Palms and Breezes). We wanted to try Baraza this time and treat ourselves to a luxurious holiday. We could not have chosen a better destination!! Baraza is the most relaxing and elegant resort...that allows young children! We were surprised when we looked into Baraza at first, that our children were welcome. Not only were they welcome, they were made to feel totally at home at Baraza!

My husband and I wanted to take advantage of the spa, but were not sure how to do that because of our young boys. We quickly learned that there is a kids club there too. Baraza did a terrific job in catering to both adults and children! The food there was delicious. The dining rooms were beautifully decorated!

Our room was a two bedroom villa which was lovely and hada private plunge pool as well. AND the spa...truly the best we have been too! The masseuses that we both had were from Bali and were top notch. I loved having a gentle swim in the private spa pool after a massage. True decadence.

I would highly recommend this property for honeymooners, couples and families!

Zanzibar was a last minute choice for us and we were not disappointed with Baraza. It was wonderful in every aspect. It stands out for both my husband and me. We both travel frequently for both business and pleasure and everything about this resort was superb. It was 5 star, professional but without being stuffy. For our 11 year old son it was also a great destination. The staff were very attentive but were well trained not to be intrusive. The accommodation was excellent and we all enjoyed the food. We found there was a good choice to suit us all. We enjoyed some great fishing in the lagoon. The chef kindly prepared the fish we caught. We all learnt to dive and enjoyed the snorkelling. We look forward to going back.

“Phenomenal”

Coming from the US, Tanzania is a long trip, but if you are on Safari ending the experiece with a a few days in Baraza is well worth it. The facilities are top notch and on par with any 5 star hotel.

The villas are incredible, large, clean and extremely private.. and a welcome oasis after a week in the bush. The pool and the beach are are out of this world as well. The spa was also great, we went twice for massages and also on par with any high end facility I have ever been to.

The staff is extremely welcoming and pleasant and truly made the experience that much better. They did everything possible to make the trip pleasant and enjoyable. They could not have been nicer or done a better job.

I saw much written about the food.. frankly the food was fine. The meals were well presented and in my opinion more than adequate. It wasnt 5 star, but wasnt far off, but the service of the staff, the presentation of the food was 5 star. Please keep in mind where you are, and access to some fresh food isn't always the easy i would assume. But you will not walk away hungry or disappointed; i promise you.. If you are a foodie and looking for a magical culinary experience, go to spain or france.

In summary, Baraza is the perfect end to a safari vacation. You will have all the comforts of a 5 star resort and the staff and facilities are high end. You will not be disappointed

“Top rate hotel in a wonderful country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Visited Zanzibar for the first time and wasn't disappointed. The small plane transfer over from Dar (20mins) gave us some fatastic photo opportunities of the turquoise water surrounding the tiny islands. Zanzibar itself is a decent size, and the transfer to Baraza took 1hour (mostly due to some pretty poor roads).

Entering Baraza you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Oman (think the Chedi). Very friendly staff throughout the hotel, great spa (cheap relative to England, £50 for 60min massages) and a large site, with only 30 villas providing plenty of privacy.

The rooms are individual villas with plunge pools, large beds/bathrooms and decent amenities. We spent a lot of time at the main pool, large and surrounded by daybeds and well serviced.

Many comments on this hotel about the food, and the negative ones are unjust in my opinion. Every meal had plenty of options and was typically 4courses...we had grilled lobster 3different days and very rarely found a menu disappointing. The presentation is very top-end and contibutes to the quality feel of the meals. One day we had a private gazebo built on the beach for us and a 4course meal served to us there, an example of the efforts the hotel goes to.

The spa is luxouriously designed and offers a good selection of treatments, at very good rates. The gym was disappointing in terms of equipment.

I would 100% recommend this hotel, and Zanzibar itself, I will most certainly return in the future. Thanks
