“Great Location and Amazing Shared Kitchen/Lounge”

We stayed here over Queens Birthday weekend along with 3/4's of Nelson and 1/2 of Christchurch! Hanmer was going off!!!

The location was perfect - straight across the road from the Hot Pools and a two minute walk to town.

Check in was ok - not over friendly but definately not rude. The had forgetten to make up the sofa bed for our daughter but she apologised for the delay and got the girls straight up to make it up. No big deal at all and the girls were lovely and also apologetic.

The bed we had was very spacious and comfortable however our daughter didn't fare quite as well on the sofa bed - was abit like a rock!

Unfortunately things went a little down hill when we went for a shower the next morning - the water pressure was miserable!!! And I mean miserable (this is the first time I've written anything negative on TA). To make things worse there was a hair left in the shower from a previous guest on the shower floor and it hadn't come from their head if you get my drift! I can't say I'm suprised though as there is no water pressure to sluice it away with! Hmmmmm.

Things definately looked up when we went to the shared lounge/dining area for breakfast. The breakfast was one of the best complimentary brekkies I've seen! It was continental but the choices were very very good. The area it was served in was also great with tons of room for everyone. Only downside was the carpet was pretty stained but I guess when you have lots of guests with kids etc helping themselves to food etc you are going to get that. On our second morning though no one turned up to set out the breakfast and there were alot of hungry guests waiting. We had a giggle at the friendly bikers who had to catch the ferry discussing if they could just leave an IOU as they had to get going and no one was on reception either. Breakfast was eventually served....

Other guests refer to a smell in the hallway - there is a slight smell but not of cigeratte smoke more like the sulpher from the pools and it isn't too bad.

All in all we had a good stay and would stay again. I would actually give 3 1/2 stars if I could - slightly more than 3 but not quite 4 is a fair grade. A little sprucing up with new carpet and paint and this place would definately be a 4 star.

“Really great in all respects- couldnt fault Drifter's Inn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

Fantastic service from the minute we arrived until we left. Our room was great ,very clean
and spacious. We were well looked after, and particularly enjoyed the large shared lounge with the large wood fire and comfortable chairs and lounges to relax on.The breakfast area was particularly clean and the continental breakfast was more than adequate. The location was perfect, directly across the road from the Thermal pools.Only 2 minutes walk to great cafe's,shops, pubs etc.We did not use our car at all while we were there. We will definitely go back to the Drifter's Inn.Hanmer was a great destination with heaps to do.The kids enjoyed the water slides and the pools were great.

“Sadly lacking in cleanliness and friendliness”

We stayed here three years ago and the whole place was immaculate and the service was excellent - unfortunately we cannot say the same again this trip. On arrival we were told our room was upstairs at the end of the hall, and that the external door would be the closest access. This door was locked and we were told the key we were given would unlock it. It did not, so i went back to reception to enquire. I was told to go the other way. No offer of help or a solution to the locked door - which was also a emergency exit. It was unlocked the next day - after we carted our luggage the long way round.

The room was grubby, the bathroom dirty - both in need of maintenance. The breakfast room is also not clean, with the carpet and upholstery on the chairs very stained. The breakfast included tinned fruit and we were the first to breakfast but there was "bits" of foreign objects floating in it.

Felt a little sad at the deteriation, such a great location and such potential!

“Can't wait to do it again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2011

We had an absolute ball on our GrabOne trip. Sauna just over the road, lovely massage and twice into the hot pools. Superb breakfast, could not eat it all. Beds very comfortable, slept thru till 9am, very quiet. Do not go away to read papers, can do that when I am at home. Can't wait until our next pamper day/weekend at this place. Thank you very much.

“Staff are Miserable and Lack ANY Hospitality Skills!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

After purchasing a Grab One voucher in December, we were looking forward to a luxury weekend in Hanmer. From the time we arrived, we were wondering about the place we were staying in.

On arrival, the room was ready, but the 'welcome pack' wasn't. 15 minutes later, a very nervous lady appeared at our door, with 2 glasses of sparkling wine and 4 chocolates. She sheepishly apologised for being late. "No problem", we said. Why didn't they give us a friggin bottle?

The super king room was average, with two single beds pushed together, and the ensuite showing mould marks higher up the walls.

The following day was very odd. We were told our complimentary brunch was from 11am. We went walking in town, then turned back to the Inn to read the latest sunday paper. Unfortunately, when we asked, we were told there was no sunday paper. I would have expected a personal copy for each room! Shame on you!

The tables were not set, and a miserable woman came out and parially set a couple of tables. Out came some yogurt, fruit and pastiries, juice, and that tackie glas of sparkling wine. It did show promise. The miserable guy with no personality told us 'The hot food is on its way'! Great, I thought. BUT, I wasn't asked how I want my eggs!

Disappointingly, the 'hot stuff' was a toasted bun with a piece of ham, tomato and a sprinkling of melted cheese! This was it! Disgusting, cheap! No class! No Idea!

What a poor effort. Drifters Inn: ALL your staff have NO personality and should NOT be running an accomodation establishment. AT LEAST FAULTY TOWERS HAS PERSONALITY!
