We stayed here over Queens Birthday weekend along with 3/4's of Nelson and 1/2 of Christchurch! Hanmer was going off!!!
The location was perfect - straight across the road from the Hot Pools and a two minute walk to town.
Check in was ok - not over friendly but definately not rude. The had forgetten to make up the sofa bed for our daughter but she apologised for the delay and got the girls straight up to make it up. No big deal at all and the girls were lovely and also apologetic.
The bed we had was very spacious and comfortable however our daughter didn't fare quite as well on the sofa bed - was abit like a rock!
Unfortunately things went a little down hill when we went for a shower the next morning - the water pressure was miserable!!! And I mean miserable (this is the first time I've written anything negative on TA). To make things worse there was a hair left in the shower from a previous guest on the shower floor and it hadn't come from their head if you get my drift! I can't say I'm suprised though as there is no water pressure to sluice it away with! Hmmmmm.
Things definately looked up when we went to the shared lounge/dining area for breakfast. The breakfast was one of the best complimentary brekkies I've seen! It was continental but the choices were very very good. The area it was served in was also great with tons of room for everyone. Only downside was the carpet was pretty stained but I guess when you have lots of guests with kids etc helping themselves to food etc you are going to get that. On our second morning though no one turned up to set out the breakfast and there were alot of hungry guests waiting. We had a giggle at the friendly bikers who had to catch the ferry discussing if they could just leave an IOU as they had to get going and no one was on reception either. Breakfast was eventually served....
Other guests refer to a smell in the hallway - there is a slight smell but not of cigeratte smoke more like the sulpher from the pools and it isn't too bad.
All in all we had a good stay and would stay again. I would actually give 3 1/2 stars if I could - slightly more than 3 but not quite 4 is a fair grade. A little sprucing up with new carpet and paint and this place would definately be a 4 star.
