Spent one night there whilst on a kayaking trip from Auckland to Tauranga. The hosts were very helpful and the amenities were excellent. Our site was very close to the water which helped for the moving of the kayaks.

We've stayed here quite a few times now so I thought it was about time I reviewed it on Tripadvisor. It's great value for money but better than that, if you like being right by the sea and like catching fish then you cant beat this spot.

The beach is pebble and is safe for children most of the time. There is a boat ramp inside the camp ground that has a tractor you can use if the tide is too low to use your car and separate to this is Estuary launching 2-3 hours eaither side of high tide. The ramp into the ocean is concrete and usually is cleared of stones washed over by the tide by the proprietors. The estuary is stony but easily useable with a front drive car.

It gets pretty busy over Xmas and New year but outside of these times it can be quite a peaceful retreat, particularly after Easter. It's also worth mentioning that quite a few vistors, particularly over the peak times are regulars and they are very friendly and accomodating.

There's good toilets and showers and also a kitchen if this is what you need. The shop has lots of stuff at reasonable prices. There's also a pretty good childrens playground adjacent to the shop that has a sun sail over it.

We stayed here with family, and while I'm not used to 'ablution block' style accommodation, the fact that everything was so clean and tidy made it fine. The standard cabin we stayed in was again spotless and tidy. Very basic with bunk beds (one double and a single set), and a fridge. Cooking facilities very good, BBQ, microwaves etc all available for use. Good showers for 50c, (probably need 2 x 50c if you want to wash your hair as well though!)

The beach is very stony, although apparently you can walk further to get to a better sandy beach. Limited things to do here really for the average person, but the perfect getaway for a fisherman with boat charters etc available, my husband and son loved it!

What a wonderful spot. Also as we didn't have kids we thought it was great that it wasn't a swimming beach, except at low tide. A real fishermans place. Camp site was clean, the noisiest thing was the tractor in the morning. If you haven't been that far up the Coromandel, do yourself a favour. We've booked to go next year.

Room tip: If you want your own en suite then don't go here.
