My wife and I have just returned from a lovely 2 weeks stay at the Tigaki Star.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms clean and bright and the free air-con was a bonus as we kept the balcony door closed overnight (which kept Mosquitoes out) with the air-con on low.
The only slight criticisms we had were the breakfasts, and the pool bar.
There was only a hand full of British in the hotel and it mainly catered for Germans, Swiss, Austrians and Scandinavians. If you like cheese, eggs, packet ham slices, fried ham slices or small tined sausages then that’s ok. There was only a choice of cornflakes or chocolate cornflakes with some fruit and thick, bland, Greek yoghurt. We didn’t want a ‘Full English’ but a bit more variety and quality would have been appreciated.
The pool bar had only one beer (Amstel) on tap, and looked a bit like a cluttered kitchen.
Perhaps we have been spoilt at other Greek hotels of similar size and rating, but overall it was VFM.
We hired bikes for around 8 days, which made getting back and forth to the quieter parts of the beach easier. We also hired a car for 3 days.
The food served in the local Taverns was great apart from one called 7dayz Mamas Cooking. If you want a leisurely evening meal don’t bother with it! We were in and out in 45mins, the microwave was pinging on overtime, and the hyperactive waitress more or less directed you to what she thought you should have off the menu…a quite bizarre place!
It was our first visit to Kos and the place grew on us over the fortnight, we thought Kos town was very interesting, and although there were around 300 refugees/migrants camped in the Castle area all seemed fairly quiet.
We would return to the Island but probably not in the near future.
