Just returned from a fabulous trip to Hotel Des Alpes in Foppolo. The hotel rooms were fairly basic, but spotless. The welcome that we had from Fausta and her staff was first class. This is very much a family run hotel. The breakfast buffet was the usual standard fare. The dinners were excellent. There is a small bar with plenty of afternoon appetisers for free to whet the appetite of hungry skiers. There is also a public pool nearby.
The hotel can be accessed by two slopes. Unfortunately current snow conditions aren't up to normal so one of these was closed leaving a flattish trail that is about 7-8 minutes walk from the main lift area. There is a regular free ski bus as an alternative. Also there are lockers available in the main ski hire area at the bottom of the slopes.
Those runs that were open were in excellent condition. There is a good mixture of blues, reds and blacks to suit all standards, even if the number is limited. We were off season and encountered no queues whatsoever. The first two chair lifts are a little slow, taking approx 15 mins in total.
Value for money in the resort is the best that I have seen. Nowhere else in Italy, Austria, France, etc has come close. Even though it was the cheapest ski holiday that I have ever had, its still ranked as one of the best. Everything from the room rates to ski hire, beers, wine, mountain food, etc was all very reasonable. It is also only 80-90 mins to Bergamo airport, meaning we had a half day's skiing on our first day.
Both the hotel and resort itself was very quiet, probably due to a mixture of poor snow cover and being off season. The apres ski was virtually non-existent, so its better suited for families and the not quiet so young set. The resort doesn't do itself any favours with its web cams. Prior to our arrival all we saw were brown mountans - however there was excellent snow cover on the slopes that were open.
All in all, this is a great spot for a short ski break that doesn't break the bank.

I have just spent the lovliest 5 nights with my family at Des Alpes.As previously said the owners and staff are just wonderfull.My 11 month old grandaughter was catered for in every way possible .The sporty ones in our group enjoyed the slopes and the ski bus was every half hour,free and reliable.The New Years eve dinner was the best I have ever had,pre dinner drinks,6 course meal with wines and prosseco to let the New Year in.Dancing and the best time to be had.Sadly we were leaving early New Years Day so didnt last the party but it was truly memorable.We all felt that we were leaving behind friends rather than hosts.I cant think of a single thing that we didnt enjoy.Thanks so much to Fausta and Franco and everyone there.

We spent a weekend at this delightful hotel. It is run by a brother and sister in their 70's, both very charming and sweet and full of energy, always bustling about. They could not do enough for us, organising taxis, skihire etc. Fausta speaks good english. The bill seemed very reasonable. Good atmosphere in the hotel, like a private house with great hosts. Hotels like this deserve our full support before they die out and we are left with identikit hotel chains.
Foppolo is a good resort for 3-4 days of sking, fantastic food on the mountain restaurents.

The hospitality of this beautiful family hotel is super! The owners and staff are very friendly and the food is amazing. The hotel is ideal for summer and winter holidays. If you are visiting Foppolo, then we would recommend you Hotel des Alpes more than anything.
