“Excellent stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We decided on this hotel because of it's proximity to Exmoor. From the time we arrived until departure the following day we received excellent , friendly service. Everyone we spoke to gave the impresion they wanted to help - as against merely providing a service. We had an excellent meal and the chef should be applauded.
Will certainly stop here again.
A treat not to be missed

Room Tip: Room 20 - ground floor twin bedded and spacious room with a patio area

“A Great Find...... and fishing too!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Stayed one night on business. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Radiator in my room wouldn't come on but within minutes there was a portable heater provided and reception came up to fix the radiator too. Working within seconds.
Meal was lovely and the beer was well kept. Although I was there in January it looks like the grounds would be lovely in the summer.
Railway station near by and close to the road but no traffic noise. In fact feels like being in the middle of nowhere.
Same staff in the morning were just as cheerful when they served breakfast, which was v tasty too.
Couldn't fault the place and I'll definately be back and next time I'll take my fishing rods!

“A great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Wow, we struck lucky with this one on a KGB deal – it was smashing! Although the hotel is situated not far from the main road, you can’t hear the traffic, and our room was at the front of the building. In fact, you can’t even see it, as trees screen you from the road. The staff were helpful and courteous and we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated, the bathroom was spotless and looked recently decorated; no bath, just a very nice shower, which suited us, and complimentary toiletries. Hairdryer provided, plus a bank of plug sockets – at last, somewhere that realises you will want to charge your phones, laptops etc! Wi-fi was free and had an excellent signal throughout the entire building. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided in the room and replenished on a daily basis. We had dinner there on the first night, which although slightly pricy, was superb; particularly the steak that my partner had. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, both on Reception and in the dining area. Breakfast was excellent; cereals, fruit and condiments (including marmite – yay!), then full English or whatever you want and white/brown/gluten free toast (whatever you desire). All very fresh and I saw the local egg man delivering to the kitchens. A nice touch was that they moved you round on the tables each day, so you got a chance to sit in the window area. A small book shelf upstairs so you could borrow/swap. I can hardly fault it, but there were just two small negative points – the TV signal in the room was dreadful, particularly at peak times, and the light over the mirror in the bathroom wasn’t working, but that’s it. Would I visit again – you bet I would!

Room Tip: Try the steak in the restaurant

“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Had a really enjoyble weekend away at the Fox and Hounds
Plus points; good service, clean rooms, nice location
Slight negatives; bed was too hard for me and my wife, had a lovely meal in the restaurant but would have liked more veg with the main, possibly a case of style over substance
Overall it was an excellent weekend and I would recomend this hotel
NB; this is a dog friendly hotel but absolutly no problem and our room had no indications of a dog ever having been in it
