Boulder overview

You might wonder if cars are a thing of the past in Boulder, where most of the population seem to travel on two wheels. But bicycles symbolise the outdoors, and if there's one thing that unites Boulder residents and visitors alike, it's a love of the great outdoors. The fantastic climate, wide open spaces, mountains and parks draw outdoor enthusiasts to this beautiful town at the foothills of the Flatiron Mountains. Some of the best rock climbing in the world is available here; the skiing is world class and there are more than 200 hiking trails, many in Chautauqua Park. Like most college towns, the atmosphere here is hip, laid-back and arty. A lively cultural scene includes several prominent museums as well as the Fiske Planetarium. Stroll through the Pearl Street Mall, a great place to shop; try a vegetarian restaurant or a sidewalk café where you can watch the street performers. Visit museums, take in a show and experience the lively nightlife -- Boulder really gets going when the sun goes down.
