Zanzibar overview

Fifteen miles from mainland Tanzania, the Zanzibar Archipelago consists of main island Unguja, Pemba and many small islands. Zanzibar City's old quarter, Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site. Nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves are just some of the crops that won Zanzibar the name of The Spice Islands. Minibuses link major towns and hiring a taxi driver is often as cheap as car rental if visiting ruined palaces, fishing villages, coral caves or hoping for a glimpse of the rare leopards of Jozani Forest.
