Uppsala is one of Sweden’s most well-known university cities with many students living there. The romantic nineteenth century picture with the poor student reading in a small attic room by a candle isn’t so true anymore. But their cycling habits certainly are - The Uppsala Cyclists has had, and has, a heavy influence on how the municipality builds new trails both in-city and around it. The many parts of the town all have trails going most everywhere, and in the city-center there are lots and lots of places to park your bike. To some people’s dismay though. In short, Everybody cycles. Period. At least most of the spring, summer and  autumn. The snow in the winter makes it more of an adventure with icy trails and streets...

If cycling to and from the various attractions isn’t your preferred choice of transportation, there are public transportations available. The city bus lines connect the down-town area with all suburbs. Inter-city transports to for example the capital city of Sweden, Stockholm, are usually handled by trains (most popular), although buses are available too. Taxi’s are available too.

The major attractions in Uppsala are however easily reachable by foot, Uppsala is not really that big. The city’s street structure has traditions going back several hundred years, meaning that all important sites like the castle, the cathedral and the botanical garden are close to each other even by foot. For the other more outlying attractions like Gamla Uppsala Historic Museum buses are available and preferred, although it isn’t to far to actually walk there. Or by bike... 8-)

In the recent years Uppsala has invested in making it more attrative for tourists with easy-to-follow signs to the most attractive sites in the center. The Travel Center the city is building and that will be ready in a few years will integrate bus, train and transports to one of the main airports in Sweden, Arlanda Airport, with direct connections to continental Europe, North America, Asia etc.
