Here are Singapore's main "zones" which might be worth visiting...

1. Orchard Road -- Singapore's "high street" or "main street", lots of shopping malls and hotels, very lively. Shops normally close at 9 or 10pm, every night of the week.

2. Marina Bay -- Reclaimed land south of the Central Business District, housing very nice hotels and shopping, along with a mega-convention center. The Esplanade Arts Center is also here.

3. City Hall -- Part of Singapore's historic district (incl Raffles Hotel, European style cathedrals, Singapore river, Victoria Concert Hall, Parliament House, etc.) and part arts/hip area, including the Singapore Management University, National Library etc.

4. Serangoon Road / Little India -- self explanatory. Houses several budget hotels and the 24-hour discounted departmental store known as Mustafas.

5. Chinatown -- also self explanatory. Also houses several budget hotels and several boutique upmarket hotels.

6. Arab Street/Kampong Glam/Bugis Junction  -- historic Malay area. Famous for textiles, spices and a huge Islamic Mosque (Sultan's Mosque).

7. Riverfront -- a combination of Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Mohammed Sultan Road.  Al fresco dining by the riverside, many hotels, very hip and trendy area.
