Public transportation and airport transfers are available and easy to use and are available from all 3 airport terminals (Terminal#1, Terminal#2, and Commuter Terminal). The public bus is #992 with the fare cost at $2.50 for one way travel between Downtown San Diego and the Airport.  

Once you arrive in Downtown San Diego, there are transfers to the San Diego Trolley www.sdcommute.com , North San Diego County Transportation COASTER train www.gonctd.com , Amtrak located at Broadway and Kettner (tel. 800/USA-RAIL; www.amtrak.com ) and Greyhound Bus Station located at 1313 National Ave, a little bit south of Petco Park (near the 12th and Imperial trolley stop)   (tel. 800/231-2222 or 619/239-3266 ).  The San Diego Metropolitan Transit District operates the local bus system with many routes running along Broadway (call 619 233-3004 for place to place transit directions from a live operator.)

There are visitors passes called “Daytrippers” that are available for purchase from 1-4 day increments. These passes can be purchased from The Transit Store located at 102 Broadway at First Avenue (tel. 619-234-1060).


The Transit Store accepts cash, checks, Traveler Checks, TransNet Voucher Checks and the following credit cards:

A valid picture identification card is required for purchases made with a check or credit card. 
The Transit Store open weekdays between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. , Monday through Friday. It is closed on weekends and holidays. Customers wishing to purchase fare media on weekends in the downtown area can do so at several locations, such as: the Check Cashing Place , 5th & Broadway; Ralphs Supermarket, 1st & G; Longs Drugs, Horton Plaza. Fare media can also be purchased online on the store's web site through their eStore and continues to be available through the mail.
