Hike wildflower meadows and hunt for wild berries on the flanks of Mount Rainier’s signature volcano
Monumental Mount Rainier looms above everything. On a clear day, its snowy peak is visible for miles around—even 80 miles away in Seattle. But viewing the mountain from afar is no match for getting up close to it at the mountain’s namesake national park. On several trails, visitors can skirt the edge of glaciers that linger year-round and feed the lush surrounding environment, including alpine meadows, huckleberry fields, and a rainbow of wildflowers. Spend an afternoon wandering around Paradise (the visitor centre, that is), camping near the milky waters of a glacier-fed river, or embarking on a day hike or a multi-day trek on the Wonderland Trail.
