Located five miles south of downtown Milwaukee, General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is sometimes described as Chicago's third airport, thanks to its proximity to Chicago's far northern suburbs. The airport, which served almost 6.6 million passengers in 2014, is a focus city for Southwest Airlines. Other major carriers that fly to MKE include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, and United Express. Passengers can fly non-stop between Milwaukee and points across the United States, as well as destinations in Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. The largest airport in Wisconsin, General Mitchell International Airport has five runways, a helipad and one terminal with 48 gates.
