This tour was a great way to get an inside look at regional Yucatán specialties. Geraldo did an excellent job guiding and made sure that everyone felt welcomed and left very full and much more informed. Wish we had done this sooner in our trip so we would have known the best places to shop and eat! If we had more time we would have loved to do the cooking class too!

I've taken this tour twice. The first was ten years ago, and it's only gotten better.
Our guide, Geraldo, was fun and energetic and full of great information. In just under three hours, we visited six different locations and were stuffed by the end of the tour.
1. Quesadillas, but these are a step up from the American version. We each had a taco-sized version of two different kinds, along with a selection of aquas frescas.
2. Cochinita pibil (Yucatan pork) tacos. Absolutely delicious. And more interesting aquas frescas,
3. Local market, where Gerry showed us a bunch of foods that are local to Cozumel, including the lima, which is similar to a lime.
4. Sopa de lima. Hey! We're tasting the lima now! The tortilla chips were phenomenal, but eat the salsa in small amounts (it's hot!). The soup was delicious, and more interesting beverages.
5. Pescaderia. We had ceviche and a whole fried fish. I don't love white fish (it was red snapper), but this was So. Freaking. Good. Great beer, too.
6. Bakery. We took ours to go because we were full. But there were tons of choices, both familiar and unusual (to us, anyway).
Oh, and we also stopped at a tortilla shop on the way and sampled corn tortillas hot off the griddle. Delicious.
We had someone with us who didn't eat seafood, gluten, or dairy, and Gerry did a great job of finding options for her when the food we were eating didn't work.
Highly, highly recommend if you want to sample authentic, delicious Mexican/Yucatan foods!

The private tour in the taxi with Jerry, our fabulous tour guide and Jose, our taxi driver was amazing. They made us feel very special and treated us with VIP service. Jerry explained every step of the way about the culture and the different tastings local to Cozumel. He took us to the market and discussed the different ingredients that comprises the flavors of some of the dishes that we would be enjoying. If you want an outstanding local food touring experience, we would highly recommend this one. Extremely satisfying. Our stomachs were very happy!

My wife and I (from Kansas), along with another family of four (from California) took the Cozumel Chef Food Tour last week with Gerry as our guide. We had a great time! We consider ourselves somewhat foodies and have done food a number of food tours in the U.S. and Europe, and wasn’t sure what to expect on this tour. We were pleasantly surprised! Gerry took us off-the-beaten-path to places we never would have found on our own and shared amazing knowledge about the foods, the culture and the area. We ate and drank a lot over the course of the three hours and enjoyed sone local beverages, including beer and Horchata. We will definitely do this tour again the next time we are in Cozumel!

If you are a foodie that also enjoys learning about local culture I strongly recommend. We weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. It was really great to go to restaurants we would have never thought to go to because they weren't near the tourist area. Our tour guide was also very friendly, knowledgeable, and had great recommendations. The first place had 2 different types of quesadillas one was like a mushroom, corn fungus the other cactus. Two things I wouldn't normally choose so fun to experience. The second we had a pork taco that was out of this world. So tender and flavorful. Learning about the process to cook the pork was super interesting. The third place was a local tortilla factory and market. It was really cool to have the opportunity to see how the locals shop for their produce and meats. The fresh tortilla was also very good. The fourth place we had lime soup which was like a chicken tortilla soup. It was so tasty. The fifth place we had ceviche and fried fish... OMG. We love whole fish done well and it was absolutely amazing we would have gone back for sure if we had more time. The last place was a bakery and it smelled amazing walking in. I strongly recommend!

We have used the grocery and alcohol delivery service while staying in Cozumel many times. We have had excellent services every time.
We order via email, list all of our wants, desires, and preferences. We pay half down. We arrive and everything we requested is put away where it is supposed to go perfectly. It is so awesome because when we arrive after a day of travel, all we need is already there. We don't have to shop, haul, carry all of the items up 3 flight of stairs, and it just makes more time for us to have fun and relax! We definitely recommend this service, plus their food tours, and food classes to anyone traveling to Mexico! So many people have been impacted by covid and especially the people of Mexico who rely on tourism as their sole source of income. It feels great to return to such a beautiful place, full of wonderful people, and be able to share the love and money to help them recover!

Thank you for the 5-stars for our delivery service with Gerry from Cozumel Chef Food Tours! We for sure highly recommend it as a great way to start your Cozumel vacation. Go to the beach first, not the grocery store! We look forward to shopping for you again in the future!

Great tour around the island visiting restaurants and places you would never know about on your own - exactly why we wanted to do this! You get a lot of food for such a good deal and Gerry is a lovely guide. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the island who is interested in real local food instead of the tourist traps at the front of the island.
COMPLETELY Covid friendly - clean/sanitized every stop, masks always worn.

My partner and I were in Cozumel for just a day as a cruise stop & we're so happy we decided to go with this food tour as our self-planned 'excursion'. Not only did we get to see & learn about the non-touristy neighborhoods of the island (while eating delicious food), we were able to use our extra time walking around downtown. Highly recommend this tour if you love food (especially tacos) and want to do something different away from the crowds and tourist in Cozumel.

We always like to get off the beaten path when traveling. Even though we've been coming to Cozumel for almost 30 yrs, somehow we'd never discovered this great opportunity to eat what/where the local Cozumeleños eat. Our guide, Gerardo (Gerry) & driver Noe were great. Gerry began by asking if there were any food allergies. Thankfully, none. He was so knowledgeable about the food, its cultural history, its use today (is it something served as a main dish or is it a snack/antejito), the ingredients/techniques used, how each dish is typically eaten (his instruction on how to eat the lima soup). And we learned about/tasted local beverages as well, from local beers to traditional drinks like horchata & jamaica. By the end of the tour we were all in a "food coma!" SO much delicious food!! And to have the chance to get away from the overcrowded, commercialized tourist area & get a taste of authentic local food was a highlight of our stay in Cozumel. 👍

Our family enjoys learning about new places by taking food tours, so we were looking forward to this one in Cozumel. We were greeted by Gerry (Gerardo) who was our guide. Throughout he was personable and entertaining and taught us lots about the food of Cozumel. We visited 5 stops for food plus a tortilla factory (brief stop) and the marketplace. He explained the food to us, worked with anyone who had allergies or food limitations, and helped us to judge how much spice to add based on our preferences. The food was all good, though everyone had their favorites, I'm sure. I was quite full after stop three, but some of the best food was at stop four, so I gutted it out. Then we ended at the bakery; thankfully we got our backed goods to go. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take the baked item back onto the ship, so I didn't really get to eat it-- just a few bites. So fair warning, eat everything before heading onboard.

I am glad that you got to add us to your list of places you have visited "food tours you have taken". Thank you!! Bummer on the pastry - we have found some ships allow it and some don't (even though a pastry is not a fresh fruit or veggie, those for sure they don't allow). Anyway, glad you at list took a nibble and we filled your bellies for the day! Hope to have you back on the island again soon - perhaps for a longer stay than just a day!

We will be coming to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen. How do we get to the meeting point after we get off the ferry?
Hi, my wife and I are interested in booking this tour. We will be arriving with Royal Caribbean. Our only concern is the taxi situation. I realize the tour takes you around in the van, but getting to MEGA is by taxi as is returning to the ship. We are worried we might not find a taxi to take us back to the ship. Should we be worried at all?

No worries AT ALL on getting a taxi. They actually sit in Mega’s parking lot available for shoppers needing a lift. No worries. Enjoy the tour!

Hello, we're considering booking for 3 for Sep 14, 2019, but the description indicates that a minimum number of reservations is required for the event to occur. What is the minimum and is there any way to check for that date? This event looks appealing, but the prospect of having it cancelled influences whether we should choose something else.

Our ship doesn’t dock until 10:00. It was a trip they added when Cuba got cancelled. Can we get a later starting time?

I agree with other posts, contact tour operator.
Also important, what time do you depart Cozumel? The tour is at least 3 hours long and you have to leave time to get back to the ship and clear security, which frequently has very long lines.
Hope you're able to do this tour.

I can't seen to find the length of this tour. Also we are coming in from the International pier so how much time should we allot to get there? Finally, how much walking is involved?

Hi, not a lot of walking just at the market. even then, not really a lot and stopping quite a bit.
My tour there was five of us and it was about 31/2 hours. Which was perfect for me. Able to return and do some lite shopping and enjoy a near empty ship.
If you are at the non downtown port, short cab ride which was slighty over five minutes. The other port is close and no cab needed.
Great tour if you are looking for something different to do

What does MEGA mean for point of departure for the food tour?

Mega is a small shopping mall. You go inside and they meet you in the inside courtyard. There are three piers in Cozumel, Mega is a very short walk from the Punta Langosta pier (this is where Disney, NCL, and MSC dock) and a couple of miles from the other two where Carnival and RCL dock.

If there are 6-8 of us can you pick us up at the Norwegian Cruise terminal?
Mitchl1221
Lafayette, LA35 contributions
No - you have to arrange your own transportation to the pick-up point, which is at a store called "MEGA" - the Mexican version of a Wal-Mart. It's at least 4 miles away from where the ships dock. There are plenty of taxis available on the main drag. But do be sure to leave your ship early enough to get there on time. We didn't realize how far the meeting place was and almost missed the tour.
I have seafood allergies. Can that be worked with? We will arrive on the Liberty of the Seas do we take a taxi to the meeting place? I want the opportunity to purchase real Mexican vanilla prior to going to the ship. Is there time for that? Thank you.

My husband also has seafood allergies. We told our guide, Jerry, before our tour. We had pork, chicken, and fish only. We actually met our guide at the mall (at Office Max) directly across from the harbor terminal (a short walking distance) However, if sea conditions merits, you may be at another dock. If so, a short taxi ride would be best. If the tour is the same, we went to an open-air market where you can purchase vanilla (3 bottles for $10). We got our's there. A great gift.

I would contact them, they can probably adjust their time schedule, it's a private tour, so I am sure they can work with you. A great way to see the real Cozumel, we loved it and the food.
