Buyer beware
This company advertised that they work with beginners then said I had to cancel my reservation because I’m not certified. I said fine and then was told I could not get a refund! So they kept my money and refuse to give it back. Be careful of this company

Outstanding Diving
Feb 2021
We spent a week in Cozumel and SCUBA'd most of the week. The team at the Occidental Grand Cozumel is top notch. Julia and her crew did a great job working with us and our changing vacation schedule. The dive team, boat crew and those behind the scenes were outstanding and absolutely professional and accommodating to us as intermediate/beginning divers. When we go back to Cozumel, we will be using them for our next adventure. Also, I want to shout out the team at Playa Del Carmen, the Bull Shark Dive was the best! Outstanding reefs, with excellent visibility everyday.

Good dive masters
Feb 2021 • Friends
Agata and Kris were outstanding. Aga speaks polish which is very helpful for travelers from Poland. Both were very helpful and knowledgeable. Cornelius handles all your gear and does a great job! I dont know what he uses to wash your gear but my stuff has never smelled so fresh after a dive trip! Jessica and the staff at the shop at the occidental resort were great. The only complaint that I have is that the boats were way too full for my comfort. The staff followed covid 19 precautions, but there were almost 20 divers on the boat and it made it impossible to keep any distance from those that you weren't traveling with. If pro dive offered smaller diving groups on smaller boats I think many would be willing to pay a little more for this. Also, it would be awesome if there were boats geared at people taking pictures as we prefer to go to reefs with less current so we can take pictures. Its not very pleasurable when photographers and inexperienced divers are put in the same group.

Pro Dive, best in the business
Nov 2020
We completed 3 two tank dives from the shop at the Occidental resort. This was our second trip diving with Pro Dive, and I will always make them my first choice when available. The Occidental shop is extremely well organized and well managed. The dive boats are safe and well captained. The dive masters are as good as they come and we ALWAYS feel safe and well looked after. Coralie does an outstanding job of getting the right dive package booked and scheduled. I also appreciate that diving NITROX is the same price as air and it was available for all of our dives. Thank you for a great trip and experience.

Pro Dive is NOT a customer friendly company
Mar 2020 • Couples
I booked a dive trip for myself and a snorkeling trip for my family.

My dive was excellent and the reefs are spectacular, but Pro Dive is not a company I would recommend. My morning dive was one hour delayed waiting for boats to pick us up from our location at the Occidental resort in Cozumel. This did not bother me terribly. I understand that sometimes things happen. However, Pro Dive compensated for the lateness by limiting our bottom time, which did not seem fair to me. We as customers paid the price for their mistake.

The snorkeling tour was cancelled due to bad weather, so Pro Dive rescheduled for a different day, which again is fine - stuff happens. Unfortunately we got sick so we tried to cancel. Pro Dive would not give any refund.

This is the most mercenary company I have ever dealt with and I would recommend against using them. If you stay at Occidental, other companies will come pick you up at the pier. If you do decide to use Pro Dive, then I would recommend you not pay in advance!

I loved the resort and intend on returning, but will definitely take my own advice and use a different company for diving/snorkelling.

Pro Dive at occidental hotel cozumel
Feb 2020
I did 2 two tank dives with Pro Dive.
This was the week of February 21st to 28th 2020.

Pros,
very nice staff to deal with.
dive masters, Sergio and Rey were both very very good.
nitrox included at no charge if you are certified.
convenient location right at the hotel.

Cons,
high pressure to pre book/pay for diving.
no REFUNDS, only voucher good for three years if you cannot complete all booked dives.
fully booked a lot of the time.
large crowds, 40 to 50 people for 3 large boats, several dive masters, everyone trying to get there equipment, predive information at the same time.
not enough weights for all divers
you must carry and set up all of your own equipment. (not a big problem, just an fyi)

This was my second week that I've spent in Cozumel.
the first trip in 2012 we had 3 days out of 7 with red flag conditions, meaning the harbor was closed, therefore no boats and no diving.
This trip we had 4 out of 7 days with red flag, a real disappointment.
I had originally planned to dive 8 to 10 times.
I am glad I did not pre book. I would have lost a lot of money as I do not plan on returning in the next three years.
This is not related to pro dive but worth mentioning.
When surfacing from the dives there are a LOT of boats on the surface, be very careful.
You will encounter a lot of other divers during the dive. make sure you stay with your group, it's like a busy highway above and below the surface.

One issue but overall was good
Feb 2020
Overall my experience at Pro Dive was pretty good but one issue early on in my 10 dive package dragged the rest of the experience down.

The important checks are all in the right boxes: Boats were in good shape, people were generally friendly and experienced, and the schedule was tight. I booked online and saved 10%... which I would later regret. Free nitrox and it is well logged and documented as you would expect from a professional organization called "Pro Dive."

I didn't rent any gear but what I saw seemed to be in a good state of repair.

I'm a pretty experienced diver overall but not in high vessel traffic areas so there was a bit of confusion when my buddy and I got pulled away from the group in very strong current and he was low on air- like really low. I was still around 1500 and he was indicating 500-

We could see the group, the dive guide was up current looking the other way and I didn't have a tank banger to get his attention (another thing I'll change). I had a couple of options and decided to just take the guy up for a safety stop and surface... The alternative being I share air with him until we could get the DMs attention- I wish I'd picked that option now- my next 3 days wouldn't have been as miserable.

When on the surface after our safety stop we just kind of bobbed around waiting to get picked up. There weren't a lot of boats in the area so the proximity of the SMB the DM launched wasn't really on my mind- and that's where all the issues started.

The DM was none too pleased and made that incandescently clear several times in front of everyone, saying I was the reason he had to cancel the dive- others in the group (who all knew each other) were mean mugging me and complaining they still had half a tank left.

Apparently he was still going on about it that night (I met up with that dive buddy again the next day who was on that evening's night dive as well). I felt like total trash and while I understand the mistake I made (not working harder to get closer to the buoy in the current)... I felt like all the staff there considered me a hazard to their groups so I just sat in a corner and tried to stay out of everyone's way.

Dives with other DMs were okay but I still couldn't shake the stigma of my error. Each subsequent dive briefing did emphasize the importance of staying close to the SMB- I'm not sure if that was a coincidence but if it had been laid out the way it was on following days I'm sure I'd have made the connection.

So please let my mistake be a lesson to learn from this review- if you're not used to diving out there in the vessel traffic- remember to try and stay close to the SMB once it's deployed... and maybe even bring your own. In the DMs defense he wanted us to be safe- I just think it could have been handled a little less obnoxiously.

Good Experience
Jan 2020
Husband has has over 1,500 dives in log and myself 187. Took all our own gear and semi dry suits. Had a good experience with this company. Dive masters were enthusiastic and helpful and carried out He correct procedures and safety checks. Dive briefs were sufficient. Edson, looked after our kit, washing and drying it every day and took it to the pier for us each time we dived, so we didn’t have to carry anything. I would suggest you take water and food if you are going to be out for two dives as a small piece of fruit is not enough and the paper cups are smaller than those at the dentist. We were not keen on the hotel as not really our scene and would not go back as we never do same place twice. Overall, a good experience with Pro Dive Cozumel.

DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE - AVOID!!
Jan 2020
SUMARY: My wife and I booked a package of diving and equipment rental with Prodive in Cozumel. We are both experienced divers (I have been diving for over 10 years all over the world). In summary, they are reckless, negligent and dangerous and my wife and I both suffered ear injuries due to faulty equipment, reckless disregard for our safety and dangerous dive practices. After inuring us and a doctor advising that we not dive until seeing a specialist, we asked for a refund of the remaining dives we had booked and they refused, only offering a ‘voucher’ – why would we go back to be further injured and placed in danger?? Now refuse to respond to my emails and failed to address the issues I raised. AVOID THIS DANGEROUS UNPROFESSIONAL PLACE and go to one of the other dive shops. Also reporting the full extent of the issues to PADI, this place is one star not five star!

FULL REVIEW: On the first day we have several safety issues and concerns (see summary list below) and due to Prodive's negligence and recklessness (and faulty equipment), both my wife and I suffered ear injuries during the first day. Another woman diving also suffered an ear injury after the first dive. A doctor advised me not to dive until I see a specialist. I explained this to Prodive and sent them an email listing all the safety issues and problems but they refuse to respond to the issues I raised and refuse to refund the money for the remaining dives. They are offering a voucher but obviously given that they injured us and we do not want to risk further injury and use their dangerous services/equipment again! I therefore asked for a refund of the remaining money. I also provided them with a formal letter from the doctor confirming I should not dive, however, they still refuse to give me a refund and will not respond to my emails or the concerns and problems we encountered. I have tried to settle this amicably with Prodive directly but they refuse to do, awful and dangerous place AVOID!
Summary of issues:
1. No one from the company accompanied us from the dive shop in the north of Cozumel to the main diving location in the south – they just put us in a taxi. They also made my wife and I organise the taxi back for the whole group, which is very unacceptable – and they charged us for this! We were on vacation, not employed by prodive so why did we have to work for them to ensure safe passage of their customers? Unacceptable and reckless, negligent behaviour.

2. No one from Prodive greeted us at the Occidental REsort, when we finally made it to the pier no one assisted us or helped us. It was chaos. We figured out how to get equipment but no one told us what was going on. The dive instructor introduced himself very briefly but said he couldn't do a safety briefing or give us information as no one else in our group was present - after being there for an hour and when other boats were leaving! He then disappeared and we were left on our own again with a couple of other divers on our boat who also had no idea what was happening. The other two boats called their divers and disembarked, yet our boat was nowhere to be seen and no one knew where our dive instructor was. Eventually we went to the pier but still not boat or instructor. Finally instructor appeared but not documents or papers, someone from the shop had to bring them as he forgot. Negligence again and not what I would expect from a ‘five star’ PADI dive shop. We had a 2 minute ‘safety’ briefing on the boat, terrible and dangerous practice.

3. We spent the day before completing the check dive for my wife and getting our equipment sizes to make it smooth the next day yet when we arrived at prodive they did not have a wetsuit in my wife's size and said it would be fine with a larger one. She was cold during the dive and the dive instructor commented as much, yet nothing was done about this despite her asking for the right size wetsuit. Reckless and negligent.

4. My wife's depth gauge on the spg did not work. We told the instructor but nothing was done to fix it, he said it would be ok and she fine to do the second dive without it?! Wilfully reckless, grossly negligent and dangerous practice yet again. When we returned to the dive shop we told the equipment manager, he nodded and put the faulty regs in with all the others so now I'm concerned for other divers, please be careful if you are crazy enough to use this dangerous company.

5. Failed to show me how to release my integrated weights. I was given weight on the boat and told to put them in my BCD pockets but not shown how to release the weights. Reckless, gross negligence again. I asked another diver who managed to show me as again couldn’t get the attention of the Dive guide.

6. Another experienced diver on the boat also had ear problems after the first dive and left before the second dive. This cannot be a coincidence.

7. Water - appreciate the environmental effort to not give disposable cups but the tiny paper cones are insufficient and not provided frequently enough to hydrate. I know they say we can bring our own but we have enough dive gear to carry already, usually boats have reusable plastic cups. Also given we were out from 1130 to 530 having a bit of pineapple and mango is insufficient, at least tell people that's all they are getting so they can bring more food (first time we've had this issue too).

8. We have dived all over the world (including numerous locations in Mexico) and this is the very first time we have encountered such issues.

Great people and great dives!
Jan 2020
We were diving last week with Pro dive at Melia in Cozumel. Even though the weather was not as cooperative as we would have liked. Pro dive worked very hard to make sure that we got to go diving twice while we were there, making sure to communicate with us every day about our diving options. Our first dives were shore dives since the boats couldn't go out,and it was just my friend, her 13 yr old daughter, and myself and the dive master. The 2nd dives were off a boat and there were only 5 in our group. Our dives were Great! So beautiful, so many creatures, so much beautiful coral, and rock formations. Really exceeded our expectations in every way! Everyone was so kind, considerate and professional, every staff member was so nice and helpful. The equipment was all very nice and new as well. We had great dives with great people Thanks Ann
