This was one of the best experiences I've ever had on vacation. Josafina is an amazingly strong person and extremely knowledgeable in her craft. If you enjoy cooking or traditional Mexican cuisine then this is the class you want to take. Its always been a dream of mine to learn to cook in the traditional style of Mexican cuisine from inside the home of an Abuela. Not only did it make a dream of mine into reality, but getting to go to the Mercado Municipal and be guided by Josefina through it, was enlightening. I have been eating Mexican food for over 2 decades and cooking for almost as long and this was by far the best representation of traditional food I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Not only did I learn the steps and techniques required to make the dishes, she also has all of her recipes written down with such care into her own recipe book that is avalible to purchase. The food is made with love and it shows the heart and soul put into the food in ever chop, sizzle, and stir. It was absolutely perfect!

This was absolutely our best day in Cozumel! Geronimo taught us so much about all of the foods at the market, let us pick out our main dish, and brought us back and made us SO much food & delicious margaritas. He walked us through the entire cooking process for all of the dishes, allowed us to help out, and explained the history of each dish. 10/10 recommend this experience if you are looking for something authentic and fun to do off the resort.

What a wonderful day! We met Jeronimo at the market to shop for our local ingredients - where we sampled some fresh fruit and freshly made tortillas. We felt so lucky to be the only ones in the class! Once
our shopping was done - we all took a taxi to the home and kitchen of Jospehina and Jeronimo where the magic began.

Jeronimo was our chef and teacher for the day. He is a passionate chef and gracious host - who introduced us to vibrant and absolutely delicious ingredients, combinations and dishes. It hands down has been one of our most favorite days on our trip! He and his assistant Angie made us feel incredibly welcome in their kitchen, showing us their love for fresh ingredients and authentic Mexican cuisine. Sooo delicious!!

Highly recommend!!!

5 star experience. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Don't even hesitate, just book it now!!! You won't regret it. This is nothing like any excursion that you can find online. You can snorkle and swim with the Dolphins anywhere!!! Is that really what you came to Mexico for? Be more creative than that! If you are in Cozumel and you are looking for the most incredible, unique, and AUTHENTIC cultural experience, then check out this amazing cooking class originally started by Josefina and recently taken over by her son Jeronimo. My wife and I did this class on Thursday and we HIGHLY recommend it. We are always aware and on edge when traveling to other countries as we are a lesbian couple and we are aware not all cultures are accepting of our lifestyle but when we met chef Jeronimo, we felt comfortable instantly. He was super friendly and we never felt an ounce of judgement. He met us at a local fresh market. We felt very safe from the moment he walked up to us and introduced himself. He was punctual, professional, and also very handsome. We shopped for all of our fresh ingredients at the open market which were included in what we pre paid. Then we went to the chef's home and cooked a family style meal. It was literally like spending the day with friends. Chef Jeronimo and his lovely assistant made us so comfortable every step of the way. It was the best excursion we have ever done in any country we have visited, plus it was affordable!! The Chef educated us on his culture and the dishes that we were preparing. I will definitely be back again and I highly recommend this to anyone taking a trip to Cozumel even if it's just for the day.

My sister, cousin and I went to Josefinas home for this excursion while on our cruise. It was the most fun and we enjoyed learning how to make tortillas, sauces, black beans and much more. Then we got to eat everything. Yummy!!! It is located on trip advisor. Not a cruise excursion. Make sure when booking this that she only takes 8-10 people. Great day!!

Thank you for posting about your experience with Josefina. We miss our cruise ship passengers in our home kitchen. We hope that you all make another trip in the future to visit us. So glad that you found this to be an enjoyable experience. And yes, classes max out at 8 people, although in general our classes tend to run smaller. Thank you so much again!

I loved the class with Josefina and Maria. We were welcomed immediately. We felt so comfortable. The class was semi hands on which I didn’t expect. We formed our own tortillas after Maria made the dough. We also helped clean and chop the cactus. The trip to the market was wonderful. Josefina introduced us to various vendors which was nice because we knew we could trust their products (like vanilla). Her food was delicious. She let the class pick the entree and salsa. We picked Mole’ which has 21 ingredients and she didn’t blink an eye at our choice. It did not disappoint us. It was so nice that my friend and I were with a group of foodies!! I would highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys a good lunch and instruction from a wonderful cook. Thank you Josefina for a great class.

Wonderful experience and a highlight of our trip. Jeronimo, Josefina's son was our chef and he was fantastic, along with his assistant. We met him at the Mercado Mercantil and started right on time, getting a tour of the market and selecting ingredients. Taxi back to the family home and began reviewing selections for lunch: Hibiscus tea, a spread made with pumpkin seeds, pico, salad with cactus, ceviche, sopas, marinated chicken and mango margaritas. Wonderful history about his family, business and local community. Thrilled we booked this class!

This was an excellent class! Señora Josefina was a very knowledgeable cook with a great deal of teaching experience. The local market was an easy (short!) walk, was clean, and had everything from homemade marshmallows to fresh fish to clay cook pots. The mole we made was delicious, and the green salsa was even better! The only disappointments were that we expected it to be a private class (we were joined by 6 others) and that it wasn’t quite as hands-on as we expected (there was an assistant who did the majority of the cooking while we only did a bit of prep work). Overall, though, we would highly recommend this class!

We like "Top-Notch". Thank you!! And thank you for joining Josefina for the day in her home kitchen. Glad that you got a chance to visit the local market and try a variety of delicious homemade dishes. We do apologize on not having the class private - this time of year unfortunately the demand leaves us little room to do this (plus Josefina really needs to work and earn money before the low season). We thank you for your understanding in this matter. And yes, because of the larger class - the tiny cooking area (stove/ oven) can be hard to accommodate a larger group for the "more hands on experience". Though we do hope you learned a lot through demonstration and all of the prep work you did to make your meal - including those "handmade tortillas". I find this task to be one of the most challenging.

Josephine was the greatest host and provided the best instruction and hospitality. My wife and 21 year old daughter can’t say enough great things about our lesson. Roughly 3 hours including the trip to the market and it felt like 15 minutes. This is definitely a don’t miss opportunity.

COVID Note: As of June 7th, 2021 Cozumel is open and the island is very safe! much better than surrounding areas and I would definitely recommend traveling there.

Anyone that loves food this is the class for you. Calling it a class is not fair it's more of an experience. Josephine takes care of you from beginning to end mindful of any dietary restrictions or preferences you may have. Shopping in the market before was my favorite part as we got to speak with locals and even buy some amazing food for later.

I would definitely take this class again.

Josefina does indeed care and we miss our tourist. We are glad that you ventured to see us during Covid times and I agree the island has been doing a very good job of managing things. Thank you so much for posting this review! We are glad that you got to spend a day with her in her home kitchen. We for sure hope its not your last class with us! See you soon!
