    Shark Dive (Snorkelling)
My son and I chose to celebrate my birthday with a shark swim, it was an amazing experience, Gordon was our divemaster, he was knowledgeable, funny, and put us at ease, taking time to talk us thru safety and the stunning marine life! The Swim was fantastic! Thank you Gordon and Aqua for the special memories! We’ll be back! 👍

    Absolutely amazing!
What an amazing experience! I was gifted a voucher for my 30th birthday to tick off a bucket list item - swimming with sharks! And it was amazing. Diver Brad was so friendly and informative! As I was on my own, was a bit nervous - but Brad helped you feel comfortable the whole way through. What an adventure!

Up close and personal with the sharks!
Before visiting I had booked a snorkelling with sharks experience. The plan was for my family to join me on the visit to AQWA - they would go round the aquarium, watch me snorkelling and take a few photos, videos, etc. The whole experience was great. I was a little nervous about the thought of being in a gigantic fish tank with various sea creatures and in particular the sharks. However, our instructor Brad, who was great, went through everything and put my mind at ease. I’ve never really been snorkelling before and it was a great way to start my snorkelling journey. It was all really simple and straight forward - the most difficult part was getting the wetsuit on. Included in the experience was the wet suit, boots, snorkel and fins. However you can bring your own if you have them. The activity was 30 minutes long which equate to three laps of the tank - half way round each lap you stop and sit or lay down on a wall to observe the creatures below you. I loved it - I came out buzzing. My family managed to record my time in the tank. Definitely worth the money and very easy to do.

    Face Your Fears
Myself and my son snorkelled with the sharks, as my son bought me the experience as a gift, I am absolutely terrified of sharks and the instructor was absolutely amazing, he was very patient, kind and even held my hand throughout the whole experience, as iwas so scared..it was amazing, very informative and highly recommend..no I still won't swim in the ocean or with sharks again, but definitely worth the experience.. you even get a certificate afterwards.

    Snorkelling with sharks
Did the snorkelling with sharks, led by Gordon. What an AMAZING experience at every moment. Gordon was professional, empathetic and friendly, all this nervous snorkeller need to thoroughly get into this adventure. Rheems of marine life, swimming nonchalantly close by, wonderful. My husband did a David Bailey (well known British photographer) and took 65 million pics. 😱 Thank you.

    Amazing!!!
It was such an amazing experience from start to finish! Gordon was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and open to any question and explained so many things about the fish, sharks, rays and turtle in there! This was on my bucket list for so long and it couldn’t have been a better experience! I’ll definitely want to do it again! I already looked at scuba diving lessons to be able to do the diving experience one day as well!

A Great Tourist and School Holiday Attraction
AQWA is about half an hour north of the City CBD but well worth the drive. It was extremely popular that day as it was school holidays, with plenty of school holiday activities such as mermaids. So best to visit out of these times if you don't have young children. I especially loved the beautiful seahorses and shady sea dragon. The underwater passage walk under the pool below the rays and sharks to classical music is a special experience too. The cafe was too crowded to stay and we went to the nearby shops for lunch, but probably good judging by the crowd. The gift shop was worth a look, packed with tempting and good quality goodies to buy. A great place to visit.

    "Aquarium Wonders"
I visited AQWA on 27th December 2023. It was a spur of the moment decision as I was at Hillary Boat Harbour. Being the festive season and the school holidays, the place was expectedly packed even though I was there when the doors opened at 9am. Ticket prices for an adult costs AU $34 and an additional AU $12 for the glass bottom tour. I elected to purchase this package. There are 3 distinct zones in the Aquarium itself; the underwater tunnel, the aquarium displays and the outdoor zone with amphitheatre. Pro tip: head for the underwater tunnel first when you arrive if you want to beat the crowds. I spent a good 45 minutes there alone, trying to navigate the crowd and enjoy my time watching the resident sharks & rays. Head up after that to see the tanks which showcase a very healthy collection of Australian marine life and corals. There is also a lego building room where you can assemble coral, for the kids! Finally head outside to the amphitheatre area for the starting point of the glass bottom boat tour where I was really impressed with the wealth of knowledge from the tour guide. There are also feeding sessions for the turtles and sharks in the touch pool (don't miss that!). I'd skip eating at the cafe, not because the food is bad but because Hillary's boat harbour has a wealth of great restaurants there!

    Diappointing.
This for us was only an ok visit. We were expecting to see things we had not seen before but to be quite honest it was no different to other seaworld aquarium centres. It was absolutely packed and extremely noisy with children running around everywhere yes it has to be expected but come on guys think of others and control your children. The glass bottom boat was nothing like the picture you are basically just being pulled along a straight piece of rope as apposed to going around the aquarium. So to sum add yes it was ok,no we wouldn't go back.

    Great place to visit
We really loved our visit. A little different to aquariums where you have to follow one trail. At AQWA you can come back to different areas and look again. We really loved the touch pool with the sharks and starfish. Also sitting watching the fish in the reef tank. Being the holidays they had a mermaid show which was busy with all the young kids but it didn’t spoil our experience. We did do the glass bottom raft on top of the tank. I did expect a little more from this but the person uses a rope to pull you to the other side and back that’s all. Think it was 10mins. I was expecting longer.

    Great experience!
Bought this for my husband and he absolutely LOVED it! I took lots of photos as he swam and he said it was incredible. The time spent in the tank was a really good length of time and they got to see everything up close.

Excellent dive with sharks at AQWA
My son and I dived with the sharks on Saturday along with two other divers and the divemaster, Gordon. It was an amazing experience and extremely well conducted. The reception staff were efficient and Gordon was excellent. The briefing was thorough but relaxed. The dive equipment provided was good quality and in good condition. The management of the dive was great. Gordon made us all feel comfortable and safe. The dive was amazing, being in the water with the sharks, rays and turtle was a privilege and a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed experience due to how well it was organised. The dive duration was about 35 minutes. The dive was a birthday gift for my son and I think it was the best gift ever. Thankyou to AQWA and to Gordon in particular.

    Great Aquarium
This was a nice and well presented aquarium with appropriate pricing. I enjoyed watching the sharks and rays gliding around on the tunnel tank and watching the fish in the coral reef tank. I saw some species of fish I had not seen before. There are options for add on activities, so something for everyone.

I think AQWA is an really amazing place. I've been to a number of aquariums and seaparks in different countries and this one is no disappointment. There's a great variety of fish and sea creatures on display and most being Australian region only so it was a great surprise to see so many new and interesting sea creatures. The aquariums are well maintained and ordered with several sections showing fish from different regions of Australia. In the centre of the aquarium is an underwater tunnel showcasing a range of large sharks, bigger fish, and huge manta-rays. Outside there's is a touch pool and display of rescued and rehabilitating turtles. Throughout most days, more so on the weekends, there are shows and presentations by staff.

Hilarious. A whole school group on an excursion were tanking and ganking and stuffing whatever they could from the touching pool into their backpacks and shorts while their teacher wasn’t watching. They probably all died and dried or shriveled up on the bus back to their school but I’m no snitch.
My kids and dad had fun too, though we weren’t brave enough to pinch a Port Jackson Shark. Maybe next time.

Amazing under water place, it has always been my favourite. But there is no way that place was COVID safe, we felt extremely uncomfortable the whole time whilst trying to social distance more and more people piled into the tunnel getting closer to you, no one was monitoring or managing the flow of people. I doubt we will be going back. Put it this way, its safer going to Kmart.

Not a cheap family day out, the three of us cost $66; one adult and two kids 3 yrs old and 7 yrs old.

The kids adore the underwater tunnel experience. The touching pool was also a delight.

Well organised areas, clearly indicated with the map that can be picked up at the entry. 30$ per adult for the regular experience. Parking can be a bit of a task, We would not recommend to wait to park your car the closest to it, but take advantage of any spot available. Personally, 2 hours are enough to see the Aquarium unless you opt for having lunch inside. Nice open area upstairs where to sit and have a break, eat your meal or just chill a bit.

The aquarium is far from the city center but I was able to drive there. There is a bit of parking around the aquarium but they were mostly full. There is also a bit more parking a bit away from the aquarium entrance. I did see the glass boat ride but you aren't able to bring in kids under 4 on it so we didn't go.
Like other aquariums, they have different tanks for the different fish and they were themed. I enjoyed the ones showing the fish from different regions of Australia. They also have a shark tank with a conveyor belt to stand and watch the fish swim by. It is exciting to watch the sharks, rays and turtles swim over the tunnel. This is where the glass-bottom boat rides over too. The sea dragon display was on the stairwell here so not accessible for those with prams, which is unfortunate.
There is a short cut to the shop/exit and the cafe. The cafe is also led to the outdoor area. There is a touch pool as well as a coral reef area which was mesmerising. Further down there is a play area by the marina.
I thought it was worth the drive and would've been able to spend a lot of time just watching the fish swim around, particularly in the coral reef exhibit.

We visited as part of a group. The displays of marine animals were varied & most interesting to view - even to and ex diver like myself. The touch pool seemed to be of great interest to the children present there. Our group was catered for at lunch in the function room. Our lunch consisted of sandwich/salad, selection of small cakes /fruit, water, juice, tea & coffee. The staff were excellent & special thanks must go to our Aqwa organiser, Teneal. Unfortunately the seniors in our group were let down on this visit due to the lift not operating (this apparently has been so for some time)

Very crowded, average aquarium- kind of expensive to enter.
We have visited many aquariums across New Zealand that is much better.
We spent 45 minutes looking for a carpark.
Found the gift shop crazy expensive.
The underwater tunnel to view the fish is as so slow I think it couldn’t handle that many people on it.

We took our kindy aged twins and stayed around 1.5 hours. We had a really great time looking at the displays, especially the turtle enclosure and underwater viewing. I would make sure you packs hats as there is a small playground and tables outside. Being school holidays it was very busy by 10am. It would be great if there were a few more interactive displays for younger children who can’t read yet especially as a lot of the tanks are quite high.

We decided to have a day out with the grandchildren and chose Aqua as we haven't been for a few years. As it was school holidays it was very busy and noisy with lots of after school clubs making trips as well as other families. We went outside to the touch pool but the directions then to continue to get back to the Sharks I thought was unclear. Overall we had a good day the kids loved it and that was the main thing.
