We booked this tour on a whim in order to see a bit of the Dominican Republic outside of our resort and the beaches. They responded very quickly and we were picked up at the hotel lobby. We were surprised by how much we covered during this tour. It was a great break from just the beach/resort and Danielo was very friendly and informative. We visited a farm to ride horses, a church, a beautiful river for lunch, a market, saw how coffee was made, a cigar factory and Macao beach. I wish we had gotten to spend more time at the beach instead of as much time as we did at the souvenir shops (we went to two) which is the only thing I would have done differently. There was only about ten min we spent at the beach and took some pictures. No need for a bathing suit. The meat market is a bit smelly and crowded. I wore flip flops which made it easy to wash off my feet but your shoes can get dirty from the grime and animal products as they are cutting them up in front of you. We were picked up at 8 and got back around 4pm. Overall it was a good experience that I would recommend if you want to see what it’s like outside of the resorts.

This tour was packed with so many different experiences. This was our itinerary:
-Pick up from our hotel in a comfortable van (the tour group texted and emailed our pickup time days before and arrived on time)
-Stopped at a roadside place for hot, fresh empanadas ($1 each) or drinks (might have been the best empanada I’ve had)
-Quick Horseback ride to catch a view of the mountain
-Drove to the city of Higüey
-Walked through a grand church
-Stopped at a souvenir shop (the shop was pricy even compared to similar items in San Francisco, California. Wait and get your souvenirs at the cigar factory or Macao beach later on this tour.)
-Walked through the local street market (I think we could have spent more time here and skipped the souvenir shop)
-Lunch (in a remote and beautiful setting next to a river (lunch cost is included). This was my favourite part of the tour)
-Toured a countryside home and garden and saw the traditional way they process cocoa (I bought some to take home :))
-Toured a family owned cigar factory (this was interesting to see and was fun to try rolling and smoking my own)
-Stop at Macao beach
-Returned to our hotels

We were out for about 6 hours. Our guide (Denelo) and driver (Alvin) were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

We wanted to explore the country side outside the walls of the resort. Glad we choose this intimate tour. We were 6 ppl plus our guide traveling in comfortable mini-van. Our 1st stop was at a small stable for a 20 minutes slow horseback ride in the mountain. You can change in long pants there if you wish, but shorts were ok because the ride is short and no galloping. The 2nd stop was at the Basillica in Higüey. Ladies must cover their legs and bust, so shorts/skirt or tank top not ok. For $1 USD they lend you a veil to cover up. There was no information available at the site explaining the history of the basilica, so you should read about it before hand to appreciate it more. The street market which was interesting to see the vendors; veg, fruits, meats and more. There you could purchase souvenirs, but I recommend to buy the coffe, vanilla, chocolate and mamajuana at the farm. The stops we liked best were the farm where they grow coffee & cocoa; loved the river with excellent local food lunch; the cigar tasting venue where we also got to roll our own cigarillo. We finished the tour at Macao Beach which was nice, but there's no place to change into your bathing suit unless you pay 29 pesos to use the bathroom. It was a fun filled day. Our guide was interesting, fun, friendly and upbeat. We appreciated our conversations with our guide about life in the DR and comparing our countries. Our guide made the tour interesting, educational and fun.

If you’re looking for a cultural tour of the DR, this is the place to book through. We drove through the busy parts, did a little horse back riding, walked through the “grocery” markets, saw the River (it was a little dried out), had a fabulous lunch, and made many more stops. We made a pit stop at a shop to get a souvenir where there was no price tags on anything. We didn’t love this as this felt like we, as tourists, were bound to get upcharged on anything we bought. We also toured a local family’s home in the countryside which was something I wasn’t expecting, but was certainly a great surprise! This is where the fresh ground coffee, cocoa, and other fresh ingredients were made! We had the opportunity to sample and purchase some of the fresh ground cocoa and coffee. Overall, it was great to see and be within the culture, as much as the tour could allow of course. An important note of the tour, is the historical church. Although it was very neat, there’s no TP in the bathrooms because of people stealing it (something to know ahead of time). The tour guide was great!! He made sure to keep a watchful eye of all of us on the tour which was very nice, especially with being somewhere so unfamiliar.

We wanted to see how normal real people of Dominican Republic actually live and what small towns and countryside are like. This tour was excellent for doing that. We had a small group of 6 total in our tour group. Our guide was Tao and he was very nice, thoughtful and accomodating. He picked us up at our resort in a black Suburban with deeply tinted windows which kept the bright sun out and was comfortable. Great guide and great content. I highly recommend it.

We had a great time with our guide Teo who spoke very good English. The beautiful Basilica in Higuey, the cigar factory, chocolate and coffee making were all a great way to get away from the tourist stuff in Punta Cana and see Dominican culture.

One of the most authentic and memorable tours. We had a guide Tao who was fabulous explaining everything we were seeing and showing us the real side of Dominican life. We started by being picked up in a nice comfortable air conditioned car. There was six of us and off we went to the basilica where we could take photos but not go in as mass was taking place. Next we visited an authentic market and a souvenir shop. Then a river which was a beautiful setting for a home cooked Dominican lunch. Followed by a trip to a coco, coffee plantation where we had a good chuckle with the guide. Had a try at rolling cigars and tasting maramjuana. Finally a horse ride along the beach. Tao was both a gentleman and a fantastic guide can’t thank him enough he was a real gem. Top notch trip and definitely worth a try. Five star service ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had an excellent trip with our guide, Danielo. We went horse back riding, went to the river and had a very tasty lunch there. The Basilica in Higuey was fascinating. What a beautiful building. From there we went to the open market where locals were selling their vegetables, spices and meats, what a selection. We then went to Macao beach with the beautiful blue water. On the way home we bought empanadas for the whole group as we experienced them on our last trip to Punta Cana.
All in all an excellent trip and you can't go wrong with Danielo as your guide. Our driver was excellent as well as he kept us safe on the narrow streets and bumpy roads.
