Canterbury, Dover, Rochester, Kent in One Day from London

Escape England’s capital in favour of rural Canterbury, Dover, Rochester, and Kent on a 12-hour day trip from London, ideal for first-time visitors with limited time in the United Kingdom. In air-conditioned coach, you’ll tick off  the Prime Meridian Line in Greenwich, the Norman Rochester Castle, the historic city of Canterbury, famed for its UNESCO-listed cathedral, and Dover, home to iconic white cliffs. This tour is limited to 16 participants to ensure an intimate atmosphere.

What to Expect
Your tour begins at the meeting point on Belvedere Road beside the London Eye. You'll travel in comfort in a luxury Mercedes mini-coach and be accompanied by a guide.

Your first stop is Greenwich, home to the Prime Meridian Line, where the eastern and western hemispheres meet. Stand with one foot in the east, and one in the west whilst gazing at incredible views over London and Royal Greenwich Park.

Next, you'll head to Rochester, a beautiful and historic city favoured by Charles Dickens. Navigate the quaint high street that lends way to the impressive Rochester Castle, which boasts a little known but surprisingly beautiful Cathedral in its grounds. Here, you will hear tales of sieges and battles through the ages.

Onward, to Canterbury, famous of course for its cathedral that is the Mother Church for English Christianity, and home to Royal tombs and more. Your guide wioffer a walking tour of Canterbury, to show you some of its hidden secrets and passageways. You will have a couple of hours of free time to explore Canterbury on your own - we'll give you a map and some tips to help you get the most from your visit. Perhaps you might like to venture into the Cathedral, or soak up the atmosphere of this modern and vibrant city with such an important historical past. On our way out of Canterbury, we will drive past the old Roman walls, and have a chance to see St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church - together with the Cathedral, the 3 sites make up the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Canterbury.

Next stop is Dover. Venturing deeper into the Kent countryside, through hop fields, orchards, and Oast houses (curiously shaped buildings that were used for drying hops as part of the brewing process), you'll head towards the English channel (the stretch of water separating England and France) for a glimpse of the impressive white chalk cliffs guarding the coastline, and on a clear day you may be able to see all the way to France. After that, perhaps you might like to explore Dover Castle and its network of tunnels that were instrumental as a military command centre and an underground hospital in WWII, or maybe you would prefer a clifftop walk as directed by your guide. You can decide on the day.

London bound through some more charming and picturesque countryside, and a stop in Chilham - a village centred around a square with half timbered buildings and a 15th-century pub. Your guide will plan the route back into London based on where everyone is staying and do their best to make your onward journey home as easy as possible.

Yes our tour guides arranged the tickets for the castle and we paid them after. Although you can enjoy a walk around Canterbury Castle grounds after they close for free.
