Your qualified guide will pick you up from your local hotel or railway station at 08:30 and take you to the wonderful but lesser known prehistoric region of Avebury.
Your tour will begin here with an introduction to the prehistory of the UK after which you will visit The Sanctuary, West Kennet Avenue, Avebury, Silbury Hill and go inside the remarkable 5000 year old tomb of West Kennet Long Barrow. The amount of time you spend at each site is flexible and your guide will adjust timings accordingly. You can also choose how much walking you want to include in your morning as most of the sites are easily accessible from the road. However there are footpaths linking the ancient sites which give you a real taste of the English countryside.
Lunch will be at one of the many traditional pubs or cafes or, if preferred, can be a picnic. Your guide will provide you with some options at the beginning of the day. Meals are not included in the price.
After lunch your guide will take you by car through the stunning Pewsey Vale with its timeless, unspoilt English villages where you can stop to admire the scenery and churches dating back over 1000 years. At this stage there is an optional visit to Wiltshire museum in the fascinating and historic town of Devizes where many of the artifacts and treasures found at Stonehenge and Avebury are on display in spectacular new galleries.
Your tour continues with the monuments of the Stonehenge landscape including Durrington Walls, Woodhenge, the Stonehenge Cursus and Stonehenge itself before you are dropped back at your hotel by 17:00. Entrance fees to Stonehenge and Wiltshire Museum are not included in the price. Optional add-ons include visits to Avebury Manor, Lacock Abbey, the town of Salisbury, Salisbury Cathedral (13th century), Old Sarum and Salisbury Museum at the additional cost of their individual entrance fees.
