Overview
There’s no better way to orient yourself in Edinburgh than on a historical walking tour—especially one that includes skip-the-line entry to Edinburgh Castle. Get acquainted with the city’s fascinating history on a walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, whose cobbled streets and narrow alleys lend themselves well to wandering. Then, save up to three hours waiting in line with a skip-the-line ticket to Edinburgh Castle. Ideal for first-time visitors, this guided tour provides a great introduction to top Edinburgh attractions.
What to Expect

This Edinburgh historical tour begins at a designated meeting point in Edinburgh’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following a route filled with medieval cobbled streets and alleys, learn about dramatic historical events and tick off Royal Mile monuments such as St. Giles Cathedral, the Mercat Cross, and Canongate Kirk.

Continue to Castle Hill to enjoy panoramic vistas of Edinburgh before gliding past long lines outside of Edinburgh Castle with your skip-the-line admission ticket. Inside, embark on a guided tour that covers the Royal Palace, Stone of Destiny, and the Honours of Scotland.

Bid farewell to your guide at the castle.

You can do it yourself for less!

If you can read signs, you can do the tour of Edinburgh castle on your own. Our guide was fine, but I wouldn’t say there was a ton of value added. Get to the castle early and your wait won’t be too bad.

Excellent tour!

My daughter and I took this tour yesterday with guide, Margaret Ann. It is obvious that she loves history and her country! Her stories were very informative as well as entertaining. Ending at the castle with time to explore on our own was perfect!

Very interesting!

Emma was charming and full of interesting information. Great tour (although I wish it had ventured off the beaten path a bit more, including more than the Royal Mile) and I love that it ended with free time in the castle.

Secrets of the Royal Mile Tour

This tour was excellent. Our tour guide (Margaret Ann) was knowledgeable about Edinburgh Old Town and very passionate about Scottish history in general. Our family had a great time and I highly recommend this tour.

There is a limited tour of the castle, as well as the skip the line entry. So the guide (at least for us) walked through the grounds and told us a fair bit of interesting stuff and then pointed out the main places (the... More
