Overview

Seek out Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, on a 2-hour cruise from Dochgarroch Lock. The boat is fitted with a special Nessie sonar, but if the elusive monster doesn’t show up, the area's other sights will charm you instead. Pass along the Caledonian Canal into Loch Ness to see Urquhart Castle, Bona Lighthouse, and the crash site of a World War II bomber. You'll learn about the loch’s history and legends as you cruise.

What to Expect

Make your own way to Dochgarroch Lock, roughly 4.5 miles (7km) southwest of Inverness. At your chosen start time of 9:30am, 11:30am, or 2pm, you'll board your boat and settle in for a 2-hour cruise. Drinks, light snacks, and whisky are available at your own expense.

Glide along the history-rich Caledonian Canal, and cross the waters of Loch Dochfour into the legendary Loch Ness.

If you can tear your eyes from the scenery, then take a look at the onboard sonar that monitors the whereabouts of Nessie. You’ll hear a bleep if she’s thought to be lurking nearby.

Listen out for fun facts about the loch’s past and the legends that surround it. Sights along the route include the inland Bona Lighthouse, Urquhart Castle, and Aldourie Castle, which is now a luxury vacation estate. You’ll even see the crash site of a Wellington bomber aircraft from World War II.

After two hours on the water, you’ll return to the start point to end your cruise.

Spotting Nessie

Pretty good cruise on Loch Ness with a good tour guide who told us many interesting and funny stories about Scotlands' history, Loch Ness and of course Nessie. Unfortunately we could not find the monster on this trip 😕

Awesome

We enjoyed a great trip with Jacobite. All the sights were great and the staff were very accommodating. I’d recommend this to anyone considering a trip on the Loch. No Nessie sighted though

Very interesting

Had a very warm day so the breeze on board was very welcome. The talk whilst cruising was very informative and a special touch when our host sang a couple of Scottish songs along the way. Some great sights and a nice boat
