Dublin Highlights Walking Tour

Overview
Explore Dublin by foot on a fascinating 2-hour tour led by an entertaining local guide. As you stroll from site to site in this charm-laden city, hear fun facts and tales about its rich history, culture and people. Stop for photos at must-sees such as Trinity College and the General Post Office, the site of the infamous 1916 Easter Rising. Plus, explore the cobbled lanes of the pretty Temple Bar district and Italian Quarter, and stretch your legs with walks along the scenic Liffey River and bustling O’Connell Street
What to Expect
Meet your friendly, local guide on O’Connell Street in central Dublin. Learn how the road is one of Europe’s widest streets, andset off to explore the city center while learning about Dublin’s eventful history and laid-back culture.
Stroll along O’Connell Street and see the General Post Office, a place regarded as hugely symbolic by the Irish. Admire the grand façade, and learn how Irish rebels occupied the building during the Easter Rising of April 1916, an event that ultimately led to an independent Ireland.

Next, follow your guide through the bustling Henry Street shopping district to the 18th-century St Mary’s Church. Now converted into a stylish bar and restaurant, this former place of worship is a stunning example of a galleried church. Head inside to admire some of the striking features, including a beautiful stained glass window and Renatus Harris-built organ that towers over the bar.

Continue into Dublin’s Italian Quarter, a vibrant area of shops and restaurants situated on the north banks of the Liffey River and also known as Quarter Bloom. As you stroll here, admire the views of the Liffey, and hear how the river has served as a trading lifeline of Dublin from Viking days.

Head on to Temple Bar, the city’s designated ‘cultural quarter’ and trace the narrow cobbled streets, still laid out in a pattern unchanged from medieval times. Then, stroll to Dublin City Hall, a magnificent example of the stately Georgian architecture that Dublin is renowned for. Walk from here to view 800-year-old Dublin Castle, and the former Irish Houses of Parliament, the world’s first purpose-built parliament house.

Finally, arrive at Trinity College, the college that makes up Ireland’s oldest university. Founded in 1592, this famous place of learning was one of seven established just before the Tudor monarchy extended its authority over Ireland as a whole. View the historical buildings, many set around cobbled quadrangles, and finish your 2-hour tour here when you bid goodbye to your guide.

Your tour ticket also entitles you to valuable discounts at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, The Church — the bar and restaurant set in St Mary’s Church — and Bewley’s Café. Be sure to take advantage of these deals during the rest of your time in the city!

Overall good and instructive

Our Tour was guided by Pauline, a lady from Dublin. Although we first had some troubles finding her at the agreed location, the tour was overall good and instructive.
