I liked that the driver/guide, Brian, left right on time, and he picked us up punctually as well. He told us a lot about Irish history while onboard, so that was interesting. What I did not enjoy, of course, was the horrible weather which I know your company cannot control. It rained constantly the entire tour which made everything difficult— carrying umbrellas, getting soaked, not being able to see the lakes clearly, etc…
However, one thing that could have been controlled was the driver returning to the drop-off point (in front of visitor center) a bit earlier than the exact 5:05 p.m. time of pick-up. He knew it was raining, and on most tours I have taken, the driver usually returns somewhat early so that customers (like myself) who want to board early are able to do so. It was miserable waiting 15-20 minutes for him to arrive with absolutely no shelter from the rain anywhere !

The tour was impacted by the weather (not their fault). Overall, the experience and the scenery were worthwhile. Our driver was a nice man (Declan?) and did a great job driving. But as a tour guide his English is over-whelmingly colored by a thick Irish brogue, which can be charming unless you actually want information. We are native English speakers and usually have no problem understanding Irish folks, but we could barely grasp what he was saying. Wonder what all the non-native English speakers on the bus got out of it.

We took this half day trip as we were a little pressed for time. The bus journey to and from the areas was about 1 1/2 hours each way, but our driver kept us informed and entertained with nuggets of information. We were given time to wander round Glendalough and it is extraordinarily beautiful. Well worth the visit!

Maybe I caught them on a bad day but my tour seemed very poorly organized. “Tour guide” seemed nice enough but abandoned us as soon as we arrived. There were hundreds of people there from other buses. There was no centralized meeting place given in case anyone got lost from the group. So, with no way to find him, I approached a docent and asked if she could tell me anything about Glendalough. She was a treasure trove of information even pointing out buildings I never would have known existed. This is all something our “tour guide” should have been doing since I PAID him for that service. I explored on my own after that for probably an hour. Here is the worst part: I Returned to parking lot at 5:15 for our 5:30 bus departure - and it was NOWHERE in site! In fact, ALL the tour buses are gone and most of the cars and the visitors shop is closed too. I’m alone in this medieval graveyard. I Called the company and was told that yes they’d left WITHOUT me — and were halfway home by then! The company said he spoke with the driver and confirmed they were missing a person (me) but left anyway. I explained that our group was to meet at 5:30 and it was only 5:15. I panicked as I was now stuck 90 minutes from Dublin in the middle of the countryside at a graveyard! How was I supposed to get back?! I was told to take a City Bus that runs hourly and expect to pay $10 more for that. As I’m panicking, our “tour guide” re-appears with 4 or 5 of our large group. He says casually that the bus is on its way back (where it went? I don’t know). The company (still on my phone) requests to speak with him - more confusion there. Our trip back was fine but I felt I wasted money on a “tour” I never received. I also nearly took a City Bus that would not have been necessary. And why did the company say my bus had left when it hadn’t? What driver did they talk to bc it clearly wasn’t mine?? Very confusing and annoying. I cannot recommend this company and would never buy another tour here. Glendalough itself was stunning however so I am glad I saw it.

After leaving we made a second stop that wasn’t called out on the itinerary and didn’t leave the dublin city center until a half hour after the “start.” Itinerary states 2 hours in Glendalough, but when we got to the visitors center we were told to be back on the bus in an hour and a half. Nothing but vague directions were given to us by the driver. We and multiple other tour goers were unsure where to go or if we had enough time to take a particular path. Of course we were back on the bus on time and the same people who held us up at the beginning were again late. Would be better if there were clear instructions for the passengers on trails to walk- they said to take white back which is not possible, also said to take a left at the tower which is not correct to get to the lakes.

I’ve taken a lot of bus tours around Ireland - probably about 10 or so at least - and I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever been on. The website advertised a stop at Lough Tay, a drive-by of the “P.S. I love you bridge,” and USB ports at every seat. These things were simply not included. We left Dublin, drove straight to Glendalough in silence without any information or commentary from our guide, walked around for two hours, and then returned to Dublin in silence again. The “guide” was a 2 minute discussion at Glendalough about where to go; no information about the site, no history described. Just “turn right after the tunnel to find the cathedral.”

Finding the tour was also a nightmare. We arrived early and the line of Paddywagon busses were not labelled so we entered the information office. The gentleman said that he had no information for me on finding our bus and we should just ask around at the specific drivers to find it. Eventually, as we wandered around, a man approached and asked if we were for the Wicklow tour and he led us to a random, unlabelled bus. Unlike the other paddywagon busses, this one simply said “Wexford Bus.” If I didn’t see my name on the list in his hand, I would not have felt safe boarding the bus.

Overall, I feel like this tour was not worth the money whatsoever. I spent $90 CAD for two people and I feel as though I did not get what I was promised. If the website provided an option for dissatisfaction, I would request a refund. Very disappointed and I would definitely recommend the Darby O’Gill full day Wicklow tour as an alternative.

To summarize: no guide, no stop at Lough Tay or the bridge, and no USB ports. Tour is not as promised.

The views were fantastic. The driver gave a good description of the area. I wish the windows had been cleaned before the trip. Unable to get many good pictures with big smeared on the windows. Also the bus was apparently oversold and the driver worked really hard to get everything squared away.

This was a lovely outing and a bit more relaxing than the 12-hour Cliffs trip we took a few days prior (see my review). This driver shared historical facts from time to time but was not as engaging as our Cliffs driver. This guide seemed a little impatient at times and started sharing instructions in the park before the group could properly assemble. The afternoon tour was truly lovely, scenic and picturesque. Highly recommend this company for tours while you are visiting.

Friendly driver Tom provided a good overview of the main sites on the way to Glendalough. The site itself is well worth seeing with the ancient buildings and the upper lake is beautiful and worth the walk alongside the forest. Lots of convenient drop off points back in Dublin too.
