TICKETS DO NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY WITHIN 30 MINUTES. FALSE ADVERTISING
Oct 2021
Horrible Horrible experience. Purchased two tickets for 11am entry at Gate A. Passport tickets guarantee entry within 1/2 hour of time on the ticket as per their website. Upon arrival to the courtyard we noticed an incredibly long line at Gate A. Thinking these were people who did not buy tickets, we walked up to the ticket person at the entrance and showed him our tickets. He pointed to the line and said "that is the line for 11am."

The line was no less than a 3 hour wait to get in. We ended up leaving. Total waste of a day and we never got in.

Their guarantee does not mean anything and dont be fooled by it.

Opt for a guided bus tour instead. They get right in upon arrival.

SO DISAPPOINTED IN VERSAILLES

I loved Versailles
Oct 2021 • Solo
I went in low-season and loved every minute of it. The palace was near empty, the palace and garden blew me away, and the audio guides and app (once i figured out how to use it) were short and straight to the point (about 1-2 min per room). The walk to Marie Antoinette's Hamlet was further than expected, but over-prices golf carts are available for rent for people who can't or don't want to make tbe treck. The Hamlet was awesome to see, but some buildings were under construction during my visit (like all of Paris LOL), which can be expected this time of year. I would recommend spending a full day. I was there from 3:30 until 7 pm and felt I could have seen more! Make sure to reserve a spot in advance for your admission

Versailles Gardens are disappointing
Oct 2021 • Couples
The weather was spectacular so we opted for the gardens. Big mistake!

After purchasing tickets for €22 (€11 each) we were quickly disappointed by the barren landscape before us.

The gardens were underwhelming, uncared for, empty and unimpressive.

Please look at my pictures below. Do not waste your time by going there.

You haven't seen France if you haven't seen Versailles
Been wanting to come here for years. Honestly, you need to be somewhat versed in French history because the museum is impressive, but rather boring if you have no idea what you're looking at. So prepare yourself by reading books or listen to podcasts. Also, come in time and buy tickets in advance.

The palace and the gardens are so impressive, there is nothing in the world like it and we should be thankful to the French people and government for preserving it so well and putting it on display. It's a somewhat pricy trip, but you haven't seen France if you haven't seen Versailles.

After learning that the original palace was the Louvre, but that it was too small, I was not surprised at the vastness of the estate. From a logistics standpoint book your tickets online ahead of time. There will be two lines of people when you get there. These lines correspond to the entry time and alternate from one line to the other depending upon the entry time. Take a look at the entry time on your ticket and find the right line to wait in. Make sure you’re in the right line. We visited during the pandemic and, as such, were required to have the mandatory sanitary pass, which requires you show proof of a French vaccination certificate which you can obtain using your US vaccination certificate online. You also have to wear a mask indoors everywhere. A defined route takes you through the grand apartments, going room to room, to take in the opulence that only regal stature and serious cash can buy. It may be that we are jaded, having visited many such sites around the world, but Versailles' interior wasn’t overly impressive, save for a couple of epic rooms. After wandering through the building, you can then wander through the garden/grounds which are massive. There is a way to see more with less walking, as you can rent a golf cart, or buy a pass for a mini train that wanders around the property. Overall, it is a very historical and impressive site. If you’re in Paris, it's an easy train ride using the metro system. Recommended

Not Up To Palace Standards
Oct 2021
Overall, the palace and gardens are beautiful BUT there were several disappointing aspects to our visit. #1 The audio guide was difficult to use at first, with long pauses in the narrative, you have to hold the guide up to your ear like a phone, and at first, we didn't see the numbers and wasn't quite sure how it worked. It was super annoying and some of the narratives were way too long and you weren't even sure which painting or sculpture they were even referring to. It is ridiculous that is the standard guide they offer. #2 The fountains were not working and there was absolutely no information about if and when there would be any fountain shows. We did stumble upon one by accident and it was quite lovely. We would have liked to see more. #3 Maybe because it is between seasons, but some of the gardens were downright unkempt and scraggly. A couple of the fountains/basins were in complete disrepair. Even in the palace, there were areas with water stains on the ceilings. It seems like the place is not being kept up even though I thought it was a jewel of France. On a positive note, it wasn't crowded and we liked the music in the gardens. Next time we would skip the palace and just rent bikes to cover the grounds.

Spectacular, but too crowded
Oct 2021
The palace and gardens are spectacular, but the visiting experience is poorly organised for covid times. Despite having a timed ticket and being on time, it took more than an hour to get inside. Then once inside the rooms were crowded, so you have to shuffle from one room to another with zero possibility of social distancing. The fountains were not swtiched on either, and there was no information about when the shows would be on. On the plus side, the Audio Guide is free - take your own wired earbuds/headphones so that you don't have to listen like a phone.

Far too crowded
Oct 2021
As other reviewers have said- far too many people are being allowed in , we got there at 10 and it was already jam packed and we didnt feel safe being pushed and shoved by other visitors. We also had to pay extra to go into the gardens and by the time we got out there the fountains were mostly turned off, it seems they only put them on at certain times and this doesn't include an hour and half around lunchtime, what a swindle
The palace is beautiful but its difficult to enjoy it when you are being pushed from room to room

It could have been a better experience
Sep 2021
It was an average experience and it could have been better if the staff was more friendly:)
As young adults, my boyfriend and I had free access to the palace but we weren't allowed to visit the gardens due to a show that was happening later that night? We were quite dissapointed we didn't get to explore them but we weren't planning on spending 7euros in a fountain show.... We decided to skip the gardens and visit the trianon estate instead. We were planning to have a picnic over there but we were informed by a lady gard that it wasn't allowed. However, as we were leaving, we saw a whole family( 6 adults and 2 kids) having a picnic and the kids were playing on the grass. The lady gard saw them but didn't tell them anything!
