Overview
Segovia and Avila—roughly a 1-hour drive apart—are two of the most visited cities in Spain, seducing travelers with historic cathedrals, Roman aqueducts, and dreamy palace-fortresses. See both cities in one day, hearing fascinating commentary about each spot, without having to drive or plan an itinerary on this guided tour from Madrid. Plus, you can can upgrade for a Segovian lunch with roast suckling pig.
What to Expect
Head to San Nicolas Street in central Madrid to board your air-conditioned coach to Avila. Your guide will tell you the history of the pilgrimage site, which is also the birthplace of the Spanish mystic, Saint Teresa. At the Four Posts (Cuatro Postes), see one of best-preserved medieval bastions in Spain.

Visit the city walls, towers, churches, and the tomb of a martyred saint, including alabaster Avila Cathedral and the Basilica of St. Vincent. Then reboard for the trip to Segovia’s city center, where you’ll see a two-tiered Roman aqueduct, one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Spain.

Continue to UNESCO-listed Alcazar, an 11-century fortress-palace. After a guided tour, head to Segovia Cathedral.

Take some free time for lunch (at your own expense) or upgrade for either a simple meal or Segovian feast. Then, return to Madrid where you’re dropped off at the original departure point.

Poorly organised from start to finish

The company has a simple attitude, "once they have your money, they don't care what you feel". The group "leader" was happy to wander off without being very easy to spot and it meant that we were constantly having to watch her rather than look...More

Both Avila and Segovia are a must-visit historic sites. The cathedrals, the aqua-duct are amazing. Our tourist guide has a very solemn face even when she is telling jokes. She didn't lead us all the way. The tour is from morning till evening and with...More
