Overview

If you long to get off the tourist track and see a different side of the city, you’ll love Underground Naples, a web of caves and tunnels that can only be visited on a tour. Discover Roman ruins, World War II air raid shelters, ancient water cisterns, and a theater where Nero performed. Upgrade to add transfers and perhaps a pizza at a nearby pizzeria.

What to Expect

If you’ve selected transfers, enjoy transport from your Central Naples hotel. If not, make your own way to Underground Naples and descend the stairs that drop around 131 feet (40 meters) below the ground.

Your guide will lead you through the honeycombed web. See World War II air raid shelters, a small war museum, underground gardens, ancient caverns now used as cisterns, and the remains of a Greco-Roman aqueduct. Explore the remains of an ancient Greco-Roman theater, entered through the ground floor of someone’s home.

If you’ve selected the pizza option, enjoy a pizza with soft drink at a local pizzeria after your tour. If you’ve opted for transfers, your driver will escort you to your hotel.

This was an amazing surprise! It is crazy cool to be wandering around underneath Naples and seeing all of this stuff! Our tour guide spoke English, but she was difficult to understand, and so many times we were sharing a room (a CAVERN!) with another...More

Unusual and interesting look at Naples Underground!

You take 90 steps down to reach the Naples Underground. At one time it carried the city's water but was used during WWII to house citizens and protect them from the air raids. This is a very worthwhile tour. So educational.

Awesome

Learned how the underground was used at various times in history. Guide knew his stuff! There are some narrow passages so there will be sidestepping. The climb up was harder than I thought it would be. Needed a few rests but guide was very caring.

not to miss

Anyone wishing to appreciate Napoli should know more about what is below ground. The extent of the caverns, passageways, cisterns, etc is larger than the city itself. This tour only covers a small section of what is there but it is very interesting. In addition,...More

Great escape from the heat and really interesting

A good few hours underground exploring. We especially liked the candle-lit part and the pizza after was delicious but not needed you won't struggle to find somewhere to eat in Naples
