This type of itinerary, in relation to the type, is suited to people in good physical health, not suffering from particular diseases (breathing ones, or hypertension).
The excursion could be subjected to variations at the discretion of the Guides, or it could be interrupted in case of changes of the environmental, climatic or volcanic conditions, so as to undermine the safety of the entire group.
For the success of the excursion and for its correct carrying out, it’s good to know perfectly your health conditions and, if necessary, let the Guide know about them, in order to reduce the occurrence of any problems and to avoid any risks.
The excursion will be carried out according to the limits established by the ordinance in force published by the competent authorities in case of volcanic explosions, the volcano guides must respect it. In this case the guides must stop where it is still safe to arrive for the safety of the entire group.
The route consists of the ascent and the walking along the crater edges, this may cause dizziness to susceptible individuals.
We recommend not to use contact lens, because of the exhaled volcanic gases and of ash. This last one could easily cause problems, if pushed.
The trekking requires a discrete preparation on a physical level. Being a path that develops at high altitude, it will be easy to accuse symptoms of fatigue. It is required attention, since it is a volcanic active area, subjected to constant gaseous exhalations and composed by a soil constituted by inconsistent and unstable rocks.
Without adequate shoes you are not covered by insurance.
Pregnant women who have passed the third month of pregnancy are not allowed to take part to any excursion activity.
Because of the continuous and unpredictable evolution of the volcanic activity, the excursions could undergo variations, or, in extreme cases, be cancelled, at the discretion of the guide for safety reasons.
Travellers should have a moderate physical fitness level
This experience requires good weather. If it’s cancelled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund
This experience requires a minimum number of travellers. If it’s cancelled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund
This tour/activity will have a maximum of 20 travellers

Mt etna was amazing to visit but the experience was tarnished by our guide
We had two guides domenico and nikos. The general impression we got from domenico was that he wanted to get us up and down as fast as possible. This meant physically pushing my friend who was struggling and was already losing her footing, from the back with his hand. If she stopped for a breather she was repeatedly told she could not stop here. She was told it wasn't possible to stop. This wasn't because we were on a ledge or a place that was dangerous to stop at, it was because he wanted us to get down quickly so his job was over. At one point I stopped to take a video, we were not given any time at all to take photos so had to take them when we could. He put his hand in front of my video to stop me recording, yelled in my face to stop recording and to keep up with the group, despite 2 members of our group being behind me at that point, he then proceeded to attempt to drag me down the mountain with him. I had to yell a few times for him to let go of me before he did so. After this incident domenico went ahead and we had nikos instead. Nikos was patient and a wonderful guide. Unfortunately by this point I was aready shaken and upset so couldn't really enjoy the rest of the hike. In conclusion mt etna was a wonderful volcano to visit. Unfortately you cant go to the summit alone anymore. I recommend either going with a different tour group or if you chose this one I would request that it was nikos you go with to guarantee you're not manhandled.

Hello We are very sorry that you did not appreciate our service. Our guide Domenico will be admonished for this. However it seems very strange that he was not very kind, unfortunately there are rules to be respected, since the top of Etna is closed, the groups have limited hours of permanence at high altitude. This thing is not easy to manage and always worries the Guides who have so many responsibilities, and can pay dearly for non-compliance with the regulations. In fact, it is not allowed to stay for too long in areas considered to be at risk. Surely the guide must behave appropriately, in order to guarantee the best possible experience to the whole group, in compliance with the rules and times that each guide has available. Despite these regulations, the guides are always committed to guaranteeing the best to our customers, for the whole 2020 season we have received only positive reviews that had never made us think of problems of this type, in fact it seems a little strange to us, anyway however, your review will help us to improve our commitment to always offer the best quality service.

Great experience but depends on the weather
Oct 2020 • Couples
A very special experience! But, it really depends on the weather. The climb up was clear, but once at the top, very clouded. We couldnt see anything of the crater. Luckely we had a good view before and the hike up there was enjoyable. Daniele was a friendly and social guide!

Tip: bring gloves and a hat, they dont mention it in the description, but it gets really cold up there (mid oktober)

Do not miss this!!!
We had booked for a Saturday but the trip was cancelled the day before as bad weather was forecast. We changed to the Sunday and the same thing happened again but luckily for us the weather was perfect and we were able to go on Monday. We drove there- you meet at 8.30 outside the Esagonal bar/restaurant. It took us just over an hour to get there from Taormina. When you arrive they give you boots which come up quite small so choose a bigger size. They also give you a jacket. Make sure you take this - it was REALLY cold up there! I would definitely recommend you bring some gloves too. We didn’t and wished we had. We had paid for the full tour (cable car up and back, 4x4 up, and a guide to get us to the top, £119 per person). There was about 25 in our group and we split into 2 groups once getting out of the 4x4 trucks. By the way, the last toilets are at the cable cars at the top. Our guide was Nikos and he was very knowledgeable and patient when waiting for anyone lagging behind (my husband!) it took a couple of hours to reach the top- it wasn’t too hard going but you do need to be reasonably fit for the uphill bits. The views from the top were breathtaking! It was well worth the climb and will be an unforgettable experience for us. We walked around at the top and took photos and then began to make our way down. We stopped of for lunch (make sure you bring a picnic) and got back to the cable cars at about 2.15 and back to the car at 2.30.
If you’re not sure whether to book this trip or not, take my advice and book it!!

Amazing day
This tour is fantastic. We had a beautiful clear day but god it was windy! Take all the equipment offered from the guides before you start. Also pay for the cable car and Jeep as the trek is big and long, don’t wear yourself out. Great guide answered all questions, waited and helped people out. Amazing landscape, smoke, Etna thundering........fantastic. Writing this exhausted after a magical experience I was worried as I have asthma but managed it fine if abit slow at times. Would recommend 100%

When a dream became true
This was my dream since a child. The reality of it has been above my expectations so far. "La signora Etna" is alive, breathing and erupting. The guide, Vincenzo, is wonderful and very well prepared, answering every question whereas technical or curiosity every kind. Every thing was well organized. I loved it, we had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Strongly, but very strongly recommend.

3300m crater tour
Sep 2020 • Couples
We booked this tour whilst on holiday in Sicily. The booking process was really straightforward and we received confirmation, instructions and our voucher straight away!
On the day, our guide was Vincenzo. Really interesting, knowledgable and clearly passionate about his work! The tour took us from the 2900m station up to the craters at 3300m, passing through recent lava fields whilst Vincenzo explained the processes and events that had occurred in the past.
We were lucky to see into the crater before some volcanic activity forced us to beat a hasty retreat away - great fun!
On the way back, we were taken around previous craters and shown other volcanic landforms.
All in all, it was definitely value for money and really fun and interesting. Would definitely recommend.
Thanks Vincenzo!
