Bus is easy to access at many places in the city. Very timely for the most part. Buy ticket at the bus door. I do not recommend buying ahead of time. There can be confusion about what bus to begin the tour on. Friendly representatives waited at a number of the stops. Great value for the money. Recommended everywhere.

Instead of our Cruise Tour (Costa Luminosa) we decided to follow TripAdvisor recommendation and book local service. We paid €15 per adult, both kids (12 & 8) went free. 3 bus tour companies offered their services 150 meters away from the cruise exit. This was the cheapest offer. We only used the transfer to Akropolis and back. They offer much more but we had not enough time to try the others. My recommendation: ask and compare price and pick the cheapest. A competitor at this place asked for €20 per adult and additional €5 per kid...

When visiting a new city, I always try to look into the option of hop on hop off buses as they could give me a good overview of the city to see which sites we would like to visit during our stay. Although this bus was good to get the broad overview, the ride did feel like it was going around in circles. I felt the main pathway within the core of Athens was that of a plus sign where the paths were going back and forth. In many cases, it probably would have been quicker to just walk.

I have looked into similar bus tours before arriving in Athens but realized when we met with a ticket salesperson at one of the stops, it was a lot cheaper to buy the tickets from them rather than preordering the tickets online. Also we were given an extra day (72 hours instead of 48) plus all three lines. The person didn't even charge for my youngest.

On the last day, we decided to take the tour to Piraerus and the beaches however we noticed that the typical wait time for each bus could be as long as 2 hours. Realizing the longer wait times, we decided to just take the bus back to Athens.

Overall for us, this was useful on the first day if you were able to get on the bus but a waste of time waiting for another bus to come by.

DON’T DO IT!!!
Just 16 euros and you can hop on and off as you please I was told. Buses run every 20 minutes I was told.
The reality is I waited 40 minutes after paying. I “hopped off” at the acropolis and was back at the stop to hop back on at 5pm… last bus at 5:38 said the timetable. No buses arrived and I got a taxi back to my hotel!
Checking the “real time” tracker the following day, I noted that there were only two buses running on a 90 minute circuit!!
After the initial sales chat the staff are disinterested and rude, and the bus commentary is sparse and boring.
Honestly, go on the proper RED bus tour instead.

I was there in September and I can recommend the yellow hop on/ hop off bus. Everything was fine and you can reach the city and sea easy. The Guide Giannis was always very friendly and eager. He also gave me some insider tips to make my stay in Athens more beautiful, thank you for that! The next time I travel to Athens I will definitively book the ticket again

What was to be an informative tour of local highlights ended up a two and a half hour torture tour, looking at old shops in very heavy traffic with little or no commentary. A shambles. An occasional significant building which we would slowly drive past. No organisation, just push and shove your way around. It was so slow we decided we could not get off as it may mean we not get back to our ship in time. Promised timetable seemed non existent. Should have just gone to the Acropolis and spent more time in that area than waste time sitting on a bus. No way would we undertake this tour again. Young female staff member tried hard to organise things but unco-operative passengers did not help her. Male staff member at the Acropolis was not interested in passengers, only his mobile phone. We were an inconvenience to him.

Great hop on hop off bus, not as busy as the red one which was perfect. Also had a canvas roof up on the top deck which kept the sun off. Great Athens tour, also did the Port one which was disappointing, not much there, should have done the beach one. Great value at 26€ for 2 days and 2 yours.

We thought it would be nice to end our trip with a bus tour of Piraeus. Last time we were in Athens we used the red bus line, so we thought let's give Athens Open tour a go. The trip to Piraeus was ok, but if you wanted to get off you had to be quick, especially from upstairs, they don't give you a lot of time to descend. We meet family for lunch along coastline of Piraeus, so we knew that we needed to be at our pickup point 16 by 5.30 for a 5.37 pickup (timetabled). We got to the point at 5.26pm and was watching the live bus tracker. The bus never came to point 16 just to 15 and then moved to 17. Skipped the bottom! . The Sights of Athens bus came past the point twice and the second bus was kind enough to offer to take us to the station. Instead we took a taxi - poor service Athens Open Tour. If you have a service timetabled stick to it! Won't be recommending your line to our Greek/Italian/Australian family and friends. Disappointed that our trip ended on a sour note! Thanks a lot.

Our cruise company suggested this particular tour and with the very special rate, we took it. Unfortunately, it is very unorganized and we spent too much time waiting at the acropolis. Waiting for the bus, got on the bus, waiting to leave, waiting, waiting, waiting. We saw many other hoho busses come and go while we just... waited.

The shining part was our Athens driver, Stratos, who is kind, considerate and professional. He was pleasant to chat with and drove exceptionally well. He treated everyone like a friend, very different from the people off the bus, who seemed to have rolled out of bed and counting the hours till they could go home again.

I had a 48 hour pass and spread the routes over the two days.

The first bus had a sound system from the last millennium. Could hardly hear anything. (To be fair 2 other busses I used were fine)

My big issue was that I’d taken the Piraeus route, got off, walked around and went to catch the Riviera route. This was a long way from downtown.

Me and 2 others were waiting at the stop and the bus approached on time, then sailed by.

The bus driver saw us (we had their maps open and their headsets out and he caught our eyes) then slowly drove past and just shrugged his shoulders. I suspect it may have been full HOWEVER this is NO excuse. If a tour company can’t manage customer demands, it should not be in biz. The next bus was 2 hours away (don’t believe the 15 min ads, you can read on their brochure the riviera route is not that frequent).

I’m resourceful and managed to get my way back but obviously this is not the point.

There are two other busses - the red one (Citysightseeing which I usually use in other cities) and a blue one.

Take your money to one of the others. No matter what excuse the operator comes back with in their reply, this is unacceptable and I’d vote with my feet because you have choice and my experience should forewarn you.
