What to expect
  • Meet your guide near the Acropolis in central Athens for your walking tour. Then, head through the Acropolis gate to tour the hilltop citadel (tickets not included), famous for its semi-crumbled buildings from the 5th century BC. Wander around the 2,500-year-old highlights of the Theater of Dionysus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, and Temple of Asclepius, formerly a healing center dedicated to the god of medicine. Learn the stories behind the buildings, and view the Temple of Athena Nike, Propylaea, Caryatid Porch, and magnificent Parthenon. Then, descend into the Plaka district, Athens’ old town. Enter the cobbled lanes of neo-classical houses and Byzantine churches, and visit the Anafiotika quarter, home to Cyclades-style whitewashed houses built by 19th-century immigrants homesick for their native isles. Next, explore some of Athens’ food markets, visiting shops selling olive oils, wines, mushrooms, and herbs. Dive into a centuries-old café for a koulóuria (sesame bread), sample loukoumades donuts and filo parcels, and tasty pies and cheeses. Then, wander through the meat and fish market, stopping for home-made and roasted coffee before perusing and purchasing (own expense) fruit, olives, hams, or other delicacies. Your tour then ends near Monastiraki Square.

Athens Walks: Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Plaka with Food Tasting
Nov 2019
We went in late November 2019. We arrived at Acropolis metro station just before 9 am and was met with Alex who has a very soft voice and pleasant demeanor. We paid 15 euro each person for the tickets to Acropolis (10 euro) and the Museum (5 euro) when we met in person. We were a small group of 8 people. Alex is very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all our questions plus more, while explaining the history of Acropolis and its various temples, before taking us down the Acropolis Museum. Lots of walking, which can be somewhat difficult for those with mobility issue for the Acropolis Monument tour, especially if it rains since some parts of the grounds were restored using marble which made it slick after/during a rainfall.

Alex then made sure we met up with our food tour guide Dorela, who was also super sweet and walked us through various places in Plaka, Syntagma, and Monastiraki, including the fish/meat market. I believe we stopped at 4 different places to try some savory pastry, greek donuts, greek coffee with greek delight, and souvlaki/gyro.

We highly recommend Athens Walks. Both our tour guides were very professional and we have totally enjoyed our walking tour with Alex and Dorela.

The guide was very knowledgeable and well spoken. We met our guide close to our hotel a couple blocks from the Acropolis w/ about 10 couples. View the Acropolis, the museum and a walking food tour. Skip the line was worth the money.

Highly recommend!
Absolutely loved this tour! We did the Acropolis afternoon group tour. Kimon was our guide and was amazing. He was engaging and was extremely knowledgeable. Tour was about 1.5 hours, which was the perfect amount of time. After the tour, he will leave you at the Acropolis to enjoy the views, and I recommend waiting for this to take pictures. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes and bottled water.

Perfect Small Group Tour
Oct 2018 • Friends
Mariza is a fun and very knowledgeable guide.Time and money well spent for our first full day in Greece. It was a good introduction to Greek foods and delicacies in the local traditional establishments that we likely would not have visited . A guided tour is really a must for overall information and history at the Acropolis. We felt like we had the best guide available. Thanks Mariza!

Strenuous trip up, but great stories along the way.
Oct 2018 • Couples
Excellent small group tour of the acropolis and the immediate surrounding area. Many stops along the way to describe the various structures that were there and what they were used for. Guide did an excellent job of painting a picture of life in the era of Socrates and how many of the names and words used then are still used today (Europe, amphitheater for example). Well worth the money to have the guided tour.

Mariza and the tour was great

We had the most delightful time with Mariza as our guide. She was very knowledgeable and even though the weather was not accommodating she made the tour interesting and entertaining. We included the food tour as well and she adapted the tour to our preferences explaining Greek tastes and foods to us. Highly recommend the tour and the guide. Thank you Marisa!

Amazing tour with Mariza
We had a blast. Mariza, our tour guide, has been so lovely with Vincent (12) and so well informed about Greece and Greek history that we learned in few hours so many things.
Mariza was able to capture the attention of our son for the whole time with information, jun jokes and vivid involvement.
I totally recommend Mariza as a tour guide.

Wonderful day with Athens Walks
Jun 2018 • Friends
It was a great day for our group of 9. We were met easily by Rosa and she proceeded to take us up on to the Acropolis and then down in to Plaka for a huge amount of food! We were shocked as to how much food we got as tastings and it was all wonderful. Rosa knows her stuff!

Great Acropolis Tour
Mar 2018 • Couples
We were on limited time so we chose to do this and the food tastings as two tours in one! What a great choice! We ended up having only the two of us in the tour. Daphne was our guide and really wanted to tailor it to what we wanted. It was an excellent day with great explanations of the acropolis and tastings through the Place district!

Excellent two day tour with Athens walks
Jan 2018 • Couples
We only had three days in Athens and wanted to make the most of it - took two tours with Athens Walks - first day at the Acropolis and tasting walk and the next day to Cape Sounion. Super friendly and knowledgeable Mariza was our guide for both days and we had a great connection - the perfect combination of explanations and adapting the tour to our style.

We learned a lot about Greece and its history in addition to the sites we visited.

We found this to be a great way to make the most of our stay in Athens.
