This was a great evening’s entertainment. My son loved feed the reindeer whilst the adults in our party were fascinated by the talk about Sami culture delivered by our friendly, engaging host. Good coffee, delicious food. Highly recommended.

Omg, just returned from this trip this evening. We got to go reindeer sledding, feed the reindeer and then had reindeer stew in a lovely tent while we learned about the Sami. An added bonus was seeing the northern lights while we were sledding. Would definitely recommend this trip. Take the suits they offer you, we had three layers on, but it was minus ten and it gets cold after a few minutes. Just amazing.

Learned a lot about the sami culture. Tried reindeer stew. Went for reindeer sledding. I enjoyed the sledding even though it went only one round at the same place. Didn’t managed to catch the northern lights while we were reindeer sledding but our guide were SUPER good. He looked out for any northern lights activity while we were in the bus on our way back to the drop off point. He stopped the bus right away at a quiet road after he spotted the northern lights. Worth every penny by booking the tours with them.

Reading other reviews, I’m not sure if we just went on an off night or what, but our experience was extremely disappointing. We were picked up by a bus at a hotel in Tromso, which was 30 minutes late. We get it, things happen, but after that the entire night felt rushed. When we arrived at the location of the excursion, where we were rushed off the bus into an area where we changed into warm clothes. We were then rushed from there to the reindeer sledding, which was altogether quite boring and slow. The reindeer pulling the sled did not seem particularly thrilled to be forced to do that job. It was a cloudy night, so no northern lights for us unfortunately. After the sledding we participated in the only decent part of the night which was feeding the reindeer. This was cool, the reindeer really love eating and come right up to you to eat out of your hands/buckets. After this, we were pushed into the Lavuu to warm up, where we were served a quite mediocre reindeer soup (we had much yummier soup at other points of our trip, this was more like water with some chunks of meat and veggies) and some bread. While we ate, a Sami woman came in and talked to us about Sami culture, which was very informative, however towards the end of her lecture it started getting a little weird. She started talking about how she feels guilty participating in Sami culture due to her grandparents belief that Sami culture should be shunned due to its Pagan roots? Very strange. The whole experience felt rushed and awkward, and totally not worth it for the amount of money spent on this excursion. Pass on this if you can, spend your money elsewhere!

Dear Marina, we are truly sorry that our tour did not meet your expectations. We are a small family business who relies on a supplier for transport, who again is depended on road conditions, which can change very suddenly here in the Arctic. That the tour felt rushed after the initial delay is something we will work on - thank you for bringing this to our notice. Reindeer sledding is a slow and relaxed activity, as it says in our tour-description - huskies are the ones that run fast. If we would force our reindeer to run while pulling sledges, they would indeed be unhappy. Maybe I did not make myself clear enough about my feelings towards my culture and it was misunderstood somehow. Naturally I do not feel guilty for participating in my own culture, but I do feel guilty for not learning it properly, in this case the technique of joiking, since my grandmother was Christened in the early 1900's and was taught that joyking was "wrong" and never allowed us to learn it either. A lot has been lost in the centuries of colonization of Sápmi, and it is the task of us, the young generation, to rebuild and revive our culture, language and traditions. Projects like Tromsø Lapland give us an important platform for doing so, by working with, reflecting about and sharing our culture. If you ever visit Tromsø again, we are happy to give you a free tour and hopefully a better experience.

We booked this tour and only had minimal northern lights activity. Quite frustrating.
Understandably the occurrence is unpredictable as it is a weather phenomenon. The staff Ken and Yohan were amazing host as well as the lady that served our reindeer stew.
The only reason it's 3 stars is being that it's not worth what they charge. They picked us up at 6 pm and it takes 45 minutes to get to base camp. They only gave us around 60 to 90 minutes window to get a chance to see AB activity.
For the amount they charge they should have at least have us stay a little longer to increase our chance of seeing activity. Yes it included a reindeer sleigh ride which is an experience but kind of one you would consider as lame. You're not missing anything if you don't get to do this activity.
Luckily the driver of the taxi they put us in was very nice and during my conversations with him he mentioned that the activity is actually expected more at 11 pm. Luckily we walked around Tromso Enter City and there was a show, so we still caught a glimpse of what AB is all about.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this activity for the price they charge. Two things they can do to improve the service. Either they can lower the price or increase the time frame you are up there to have increased chance of seeing AB activity.
Otherwise spend your money elsewhere. Such a waste.

We really enjoyed this experience. We got picked up at a central hotel in tromso and drove for about 1hour. We were given a snow suit, boots, flashlight and gloves. We then went on a fabulous reindeer ride and were lucky enough to see the northern lights and a meteorite shower. We then had food and an interesting talk about the Sami culture. Unforgettable experience!

The bus pick up in Tromso city centre was efficient and convenient and took us to the reindeer camp which was 45 minutes drive away. During both the outward and return journeys the driver was using a mobile phone (not hands free) and at times he had no hands on the wheel while he used the phone which was very alarming, especially as the roads were covered in snow, narrow and winding.

Once we arrived at the camp we were given warm clothes and taken on a reindeer sled ride under the moonlight which was magical. After the sled ride we got to feed the reindeer so was lovely to get so close to these beautiful creatures and meet the herd.

Hot food and drinks were served inside a cosy hut and our Sami guide gave a very interesting history of Sami culture and sang a few yoiks after which the bus took us back to the city.

However, as the trip was advertised as a Northern Lights viewing together with the reindeer experience I was surprised that no time was specifically dedicated to go outside and look for the lights as had been the case for other trips I had booked with different tour operators over the course of the same visit. The Northern Lights weren't even mentioned by the guide. Unfortunately not long after we had departed to head back to the city the lights made an appearance at the reindeer camp so it was very disappointing that we had not had the opportunity to view them and this had not been included as a part of the trip, despite being advertised as such. Other trips (different tour operators) I went on during the same visit were much more proactive in trying to help guests see the lights - continuously checking for activity, providing information on how and when to spot them and stopping the bus at different points of the journey to look for any activity - especially on nights when it was expected to be be a good chance of seeing them.

Overall the reindeer experience and learning about Sami culture was very enjoyable but over priced, especially compared to other actives offered by other local operators. The lack of any time dedicated to looking for the Northern Lights was misleading based on how the trip was advertised. Had the trip included several hours to be outside at least looking for the lights with an experienced guide this might have justified the cost but without this activity the cost should have been in the region of 70-80 NOK not double this price.

Dear CEB126, Thank you for taking the time to write us an honest review. We appreciate the honest feedback! Our guests safety is our main concern at all points during our activities. If one of our drivers were speaking on the phone without a handsfree widget available, this is something we do not take lightly on and we will make sure that this does not happen again. We are sorry to hear that you feel the northern lights wasn't focused enough during your evening sledding trip. We always prioritize to make time for them during the activity, but looking for the northern lights depends on both weather and predictability. As you are mentioning there was a full moon and clear skies during your trip, we always make time to see the lights if they can be seen. We are sorry to hear that you didn't feel the price you paid matched the experience. Our price point is a bit higher than other activity providers in Tromsø, mainly due to our combined packages. Our activities includes both scenic transfers, free clothing rental and warm meals. If you ever return to Tromsø we would love to have you as a guest again and we will do better! Best regards, Team Tromsø Lapland

We did the reindeer experience in March 2018. The tour was super organise, the guides were amazing, the sledding was a super cool experience ( I felt a bit like Santa Clause ) , and the Sami culture with reindeer feeding was fantastic. Of course our highlights was the green skies with the Aurora dancing all over the sky. If you want to experience this, dress super warm, as the temperature was close to -30 C - ... I recommend this company without doubt !

We had a great experience! We were thankful for the warm clothing, boots and gloves, they had a wide array of sizes. Being inland from Tromso it can be much colder but worth it! We started with the reindeer sledding, then feeding. We headed inside and around the fire to warm up and learned about the Sami culture from our wonderful guides. As we headed back to the bus, we could see the Aurora. On the way home we stopped and saw an even better showing of the Northern Lights. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing experience during our trip in February 2018. It gets very cold so you should dress accordingly, but the guides also provide additional apparel (boots, mittens, polar onesies, hats) there after the bus ride. There is also a vegetarian option to the traditional Sami stew (reindeer) which was very convenient.

We took a bus ride from a central Tromsø hotel at 6PM, which lasted ~45mins. After getting dressed appropriately, we went on to reindeer sledding for about a half hour, followed by another half hour of feeding baby reindeers. We were lucky to have strong Northern lights all throughout the time spent outdoors! After that, we proceeded inside a Sami tent for a traditional Sami stew along hot beverages, and our guides spoke about the Sami culture and traditions around a big warm fire.
