Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves from Auckland Small Group Tour
Visit New Zealand’s must-see Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves on a comprehensive full-day tour from Auckland. Along with a guided bus tour of the Lord of the Rings locale and a boat cruise through illuminated glowworm caves, see sacred Maori sites like Mount Taupiri. Travel in comfort through the rural countryside with a small group, which allows for a more personalized tour.
What to Expect

After morning pickup at select hotels in Auckland, travel by minibus through the Waikato countryside to Hobbiton.

Upon arrival, join a local guide for a 2-hour tour of the 12-acre (4.85-hectare) Hobbiton Movie Set. See the lush pastures of the Shire, explore numerous hobbit holes and gardens, and hear stories about the Lord of the Rings films before ending up at the Green Dragon Inn.

Continue west into the Waitomo region and stop at the Waitomo Homestead for lunch (own expense). Afterward, visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves: explore impressive stalactites and stalagmites, then board a boat for your glowworm cruise. Glide along the grotto river and see thousands of twinkling glowworms along the cave walls.

On the scenic return drive, see landmarks such as the Huntly Power Station, Waikato River, and Mount Taupiri, a sacred Maori site. Your tour ends with hotel drop-off in Auckland.
