What to expect
Make your own way to the Picton Marina in the early afternoon to board your 65-foot (20-meter) luxury catamaran. Picton is located at the top of the South Island, near the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound and just 25 minutes north of Blenheim. Get comfortable on one of the outdoor decks or in the cabin, which has booth seats with tables, and lounge areas. Take in sweeping views of the the scenic waterways of the Sound as your captain takes you to salmon and mussel farms along the route. The crew serves up samples of fresh seafood from local sources (typically steamed greenshell mussels, king salmon and Cloudy Bay clams) accompanied by a glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine. Hear informative commentary about the region from your captain during the cruise, and keep an eye out for possible sightings of wildlife such as penguins, dolphins and seals. A range of light snacks, hot tea and coffee, Marlborough wines, beer, juice, and bottled water are available for purchase on board. Your 3.5-hour tour ends with return to the Picton Marina in the early evening.

Seafood Odyssey Tour, a must do in Picton .
Jul 2021
Excellent tour and highly recommended. We were lucky, clear blue sky, warm and not windy in the middle of Winter. Great experience especially with the Seafood Odyssey tour. Reception staff (Summer) and our tour guide ( Claire) was exceptionally helpful. Good communication skill, friendly and very professional during the whole tour. All of us ( four) had a fantastic half day out. The sight seeing was exceptionally good on a clear day, The seafood provided by the tour company was fresh, tasty and finish off with a glass of local wine, Yammm....... .

An amazing experience
From the moment we stepped onboard we were welcomed and looked after by Summer and Skipper. Lucky enough to see a seal devouring a large salmon, we also saw a large pod of dolphins and spent some time with them following the boat and putting on an aerial display, at no time did we feel that there was a schedule, rather plenty of time to experience what the sounds offered. Both staff were informative and genuinely keen for us to enjoy the day. The bread and dip was great and there were more mussels and clams than we could eat. The final treat was some excellent salmon ( not the one the seal was eating) expertly cooked by Skipper. Thank you for a lovely day.

Thoroughly recommend this trip
We went out on the Seafood Odyssey afternoon trip a few days ago. Informative, fun, scenic and delicious salmon and mussels ( as well as local Dukkah) prepared by the lovely Sophia. Both Blair (captain) and Sophia went out of their way to make the trip as enjoyable as possible.

Utimate experience in Picton
Nov 2020
We dod the cruise on November 13th and there was only two of us and they still took us out which we were pleasantly surprised. From the time of boarding we had a magical 3 hours going through the Marlborough Sounds which is just breathtaking.
The three staff were very knowledgable of the Sounds, polite and accomodating. We had an amazing mussel platter and got shown a salmon and mussel farm which was very interesting. Well worth taking this trip with a great company that runs the vessels.

Jun 2020 • Couples
Spent a wonderful afternoon with the entertaining head chef Bruce, and equally entertaining educator Captain Chris.

The spread consisted of generous portions of clams, mussels, bread and salmon. All prepared in ways (despite being seafood enjoying New Zealander's) we've never thought of doing before. Chris's eyes spotted a few pods of dolphins, which made the trip all the more special, and had an opportunity to witness the feeding of some seriously big fishes.

The boy's really personalised the tour for us, and they went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed it and tailored the experience for our interests.

Thanks for the laughs, the food and experience. You've set high expectations for the Marlborough Tour Company, and as a result we'll be back to enjoy another tour with the team soon and recommending our friends and family do the same too.

JingCai Seafood Cruise
Jan 2020
In January 2020, we booked the JingCai Seafood Cruise from Picton. We sailed on the Mantra with the lovely crew: Chris, Tori and Jason. We are a family of three, and they took great care of us! We loved sailing through the Marlborough Sounds and learning about mussel farming from the Captain. We ate more mussels, clams and salmon than we could possibly manage and also enjoyed a short nature walk halfway through. I can thoroughly recommend this half-day trip for families with young children. Thank you to the team for a lovely morning out that we will never forget.

What a wonderful cruise! Our crew, Chris and Lexi, were fantastic! The information about the mussel and salmon farms was very interesting. And the food—mussels, salmon and bread with olive oil was very good and plentiful! Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Excellent Sounds Cruise
Nov 2019 • Couples
Had a great half day cruise with Captain Chris. Very informative and relaxing. We thought we would be getting just a “taste” of the delicious local seafood. Buckets of mussels and clams and then the salmon. We cancelled dinner that night. Highly recommended.
