Let me first say that the trip itself is an adventure. Do NOT be put off by the wild drive there. As long as you don’t have a medical condition that keeps you from sitting for three hours—it’s more than worth it. Now onto our specific experience with Cayo Inland Expeditions. On the surface, this company provides the same service as many others and I have been hard pressed to find a bad guide in our previous trips to Belize. That said, the guides in this company are the best we have ever come across. Their knowledge of the sites is first rate. Their willingness to slow down or speed up according to our needs left us with a completely customized experience. The seamlessness of pickups and drop-offs maximized our time seeing the wonders of Belize without any waiting around. At the site itself, our guide slowed down to allow my older father (80) (who needed some help getting up and down all the uneven stairs)—and my children who wanted to examine every bug and fantastic flower—to go at their own pace and just experience Caracol in the way that was most meaningful to them. When we reached Caana, the kids took off like a shot to climb to the top—something we didn’t exactly want, but our guide rolled with it and helped us catch up. He somehow managed to juggle the needs of aging grandparents, overly-excited kids and their exhausted parents with enough grace to keep us from feeling like a burden while still keeping the commentary informative and interesting. I didn’t see any other guide in our entire trip who had to manage this—and frankly it was miraculous. He allowed us to spend far more time exploring than we thought possible and despite the fact that our trip went much later than expected, not once did he crack the whip and say “time to go.” For the first time ever, I took a guided trip that felt like we were the ones in charge of the timetable, and this has always been our biggest reason for not using guided tours. Caracol itself was a shock. And I mean that in the sense that it was amazing. O felt so happy that we weren’t able to make it to Tikal—which is also amazing—because if Tikal had been open to us, we would have missed out on this brilliant experience. It was a wonderful, worthwhile adventure with the best company we’ve ever worked with.

An exciting and educational trip. The guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, fun and an exceptional driver. There was no rush, we got the time to properly take in the awe inspiring Mayan buildings and the guide explained the meanings of carvings, the ancient politics of the area and he answered any questions we had.

Caracol Maya Temple was very impressive. Worth the bumpy drive for sure. Perhaps not many tourists go there because of a longer drive. We felt we had the entire area for ourselves (along with the howler monkeys).
Our guide, Dimas, is an exceptional guide with a wealth of knowledge of the archeology and history of the site. He's also a keen bird watcher and well versed in animal and plant life. It was a holiday and all the locals seemed to have taken the day to hang out at the river, so we opted out of the Big Rock Waterfalls. Not a big deal for us as we were pretty tired after all our climbing.
Dimas was on time at pick-up and a very safe driver.

We did 2 tours with Cayo Inland - whole day Caracol and half day Xunantunich. It was super easy to setup the tour over WhatsApp with John Paul. Our guide for the 2 days was Dimas - a good guide, a good human being. He was very courteous, knowledgeable and generally a good person to hang out with for the 2 days. He knows a lot about the Mayan ruins, culture and the neighboring area. ASK FOR DIMAS.

We are so glad we chose to go to the Caracol Ruins with this tour company. Dimas was our tour guide and as mentioned in previous reviews he is fabulous. The drive to Caracol is long, yes but that is part of the experience! Dimas broke it up by stopping at the Rio caves. Where he is not only a great guide but we learned a decent photographer!
At the ruins we had as much time as we wanted with a lovely lunch waiting for us at the end. Dimas never rushed us but let us take our time. After we packed ourselves back into the van we had a visit to the Rio pools. Where we enjoyed a refreshing swim and then we were returned to our door. I cannot speak highly enough of this tour company and their tour guide, Dimas. He was very knowledgeable, patient, kind and informative On any topic we brought up.

We really enjoyed our tour with Dimas to Caracol with our large family of 7 (5 children ages 15-1). We booked via Reuben of Cayo Inland in downtown San Ignacio, who was very friendly. We had done a couple of tours with a nearby tour company and while we were OK with their guides, we weren't impressed with the tour operators and found out belatedly that they were overcharging. We were, therefore, relieved to find Reuben who gave us a much fairer price for Caracol (we just wished we had met him before booking our other tours). Our appointed guide, Dimas, was patient and friendly with our children--he also had great insight into the ruins, and gave us plenty of time to explore and enjoy. After touring Caracol, he took us to the Big Rock Waterfalls, which I highly recommend doing. Bit of a hike (not far, but steep) but if you like hiking, which we do, it's a fun little hike and the waterfalls are amazing--with a great swimming area and small cliffs for jumping. Great family experience. Couldn't recommend it more.

Did a tour of Caracol with Demas as our guide. Very professional and extremely knowledgeable about not only the ruins but wildlife, ecology, history, and of course local culture. We also visited the Rio Frio caves and Rio On swimming hole, which broke up the drive very nicely. The drive itself was bumpy and long but well worth it. Driving along the Mountain Pine Ridge was very scenic. At the ruins Demas taught us a lot about Mayan history and walked us through the major temples and buildings. We had a bonus wildlife sighting when two troops of howler monkeys started making an incredible racket which Demas told us was their way of defending territory. Really recommend visiting Caracol with a guide, I'm sure the people who went there on their own missed out on a lot of information.

John Paul (the owner of this company) planned five days worth of activities for us and did a great job. We had a fantastic time at Caracol with Dimas as our guide. Caracol was beautiful and interesting. Dimas was a wealth of information. He was knowledgeable about everything from the details of the ruins, to the birds and the plants, trees and more. We can't say enough good about him - he deserves 10 stars! Don't miss Caracol and ask for Dimas as your guide! Highly recommend this company!

My husband and I took a private tour with Victor to Caracol and stopped at the Rio on Pools. We had a great time with Victor and are very happy we chose Cayp Inland Expeditions! Victor met us at a resort in San Ignacio, as we were driving in from south of Belmopan, where we left our vehicle and got in with him to begin the journey. He stopped and picked up our lunches from their office and then we began the trek out there. We were impressed because we're vegan and John Paul (the owner, who I set the tour up with) told us this was fine but you never know. But lunch was good and there was soda, water, and dessert supplied! There weren't too many groups out there and we were the only one of 2 people that we noticed, others ranged from 4 to maybe 12. We learned so much that we couldn't possibly retain everything, and the ruins were absolutely breathtaking!! We highly recommend this tour, even though it's a ways out! Truly worth it! We stopped at a swimming area on the way back called Rio on Pools and Victor supplied towels for drying off. We saw a lot of wildlife and Victor was really good about pointing the animals out and telling us about the species and plant life! I recommend this tour with this company, and this guide!
