(Note: Due to recent volcanic activity, this portion of the tour may remain closer to the base.) Then, transfer to Kawilal Hot Springs. Relax in the 12 thermal pools, 25 steam baths, and three hydrotherapy baths, all naturally heated by volcanic steam vents and enjoy a delicious lunch. An onsite spa offers additional services including massages and pedicures at additional cost. Conclude your tour with hotel drop-off in Guatemala City.

So glad we opted for this tour
Jan 2021
This was a great way to relieve our designated driver for a day and so glad we opted for this tour. A lovely little hike to see Pacaya Volcano close-up, we were the first party to ascend that day and glimpsed some lava. The views from the top were well worth it and taking El Arenal route on the descent was an adventure. After the hike, the Kawilal Spa was just the ticket! We even had the whole area to ourselves due to the pandemic, so all felt very safe. The smoothie and lunch there were also very delicious. Could have done with a tad more direction at times, but all part of the fun!

No lava

I want tours to include real pictures instead of fantasy. The hot part of this volcano is a small depression that feels a little warm, littered with candy wrappers and sticks. If you pick up in Guat City it is a long drive, as you detour slowly through Antigua to pick up more people.

Worse part is the traffic
Firstly, my wife and I exercise 6 days a week and this hike was not easy. It’s pretty much over an hour of walking up a very steep hill so when everyone calls it a “tough little hike”. It’s exactly that tough and short. The horses are 100 Q if you wanna ride one up there. 4 of 8 in our group did that. Very cloudy, windy and cold so dressed ready for that. Then in the way down it was to hit for a jacket. Just an FYI. Lunch was ok and at the hot springs hotel. The springs were nice but we had less than an hour to enjoy it. It was enough to go through a session where they take you through a cycle of hot/cold baths. Not designed for long time relaxation. It’s like a spa to the locals so don’t dress to bad for the hike bc you go straight here. It’s a good tour to pay for. My wife speaks Spanish so some tours aren’t worth paying for but this one is worth it. FYI they pick up in Guatemala City first than Antigua. So if your leaving from GC you’re in the car and hour longer in the am and on the return the unload I’m Antigua the. Take you to Guatemala City. With the traffic at night you’re talking about 2.5 hours in the car. And it’s super late at night then too.

Amazing hiking experience and relaxing spa!
Amazing experience! I only had a day in Guatemala, and I am more than happy that I chose to do this excursion. I got picked up on time at the Westin, we picked up a few more people in Antigua, and were at the hiking site by 9am. It was beyond beautiful and we got to roast marshmallows on the dried lava! Afterward we headed to the hot springs for lunch which was delicious and filled me up. The hot springs were beautiful and so relaxing, I made sure to get a margarita (so yummy!) the Antigua crew was dropped off by 4pm and I was back in Guatemala City by 5:30pm. Highly recommend!

Messy pick up and willing to put customers in danger
Jan 2020 • Friends
The tour included a pick up from the hotel in the Moro! After several attempts to reach out to the tour operator the day before the tour I was told my hotel was not within the pick up zone and I had to walk 5 mins to another hotel to be picked up! Please keep in mind I was told pick up is at 6.30 am so it is still dark in Guatemala City! The city is not safe so the tour operator put me in danger by having me walk to a different hotel!!! Once I was there on time the driver was 30 mins late with no other explanation than to much traffic! There is traffic every morning so the tour company should plan for it! Once picked up, the driver drove passed by the hotel I was actually staying at! So the excuse that the hotel is far away is a complete joke! I wouldn’t boom with them again although the rest of the tour was fine! The company policy needs to be changed since this is clearly not the tour guides fault! You can’t expect to have your customers walk the other dark in a city not considered as safe and than actually pass their hotel anyway!!

The most difficult, rewarding and beautiful tour by a spectacular tour company! Wow. Just do it! Don't take the horse taxis on the way up, your ego will thank you. Our local guide was spectacular- he stopped at just the right intervals when our hearts and legs were screaming from being stretched. The driver was super helpful and courteous. Pacaya Volcano is one of the three active volcanoes of the 37 in Guatemala. It was a clear day so we saw Mexico, the Pacific Coast and Belize.

Worth every cent ... Wonderful tour!
Aug 2019
This was an excellent trip in every respect. It started with the customer service of the company. I only found the trip on the web, after hours on a Saturday. I wanted to join a tour on Sunday, but the website was already not accepting reservations that close to time of departure. I called the local number, and the woman who answered told me there was space, and kindly suggested that I book the tour and pay online with a Monday reservation, but assured me that they would accept the reservation for Sunday (now about 10 hours from the time of my call). The driver was courteous and picked me up at the appointed time. He had my name and verified it was me. Safe driving all the way. The local guide Lydia was a blast, and did a great job of telling us about interesting plants along the way, as well as information about the volcano. Pacaya was fascinating, got some great photos and video of lava flowing, and roasted a marshmallow in a hole in the ground using geothermal (volcanic) heat. Do know that the hike is strenuous if you aren't acclimated to altitude and in reasonably good shape. You'll be working to get your breath on the way up and pounding your knees on the way down. But fear not, if you need assistance, there are guys who follow your party leading horses, and for an additional Q200 charge (a little over $26) they'll give you a lift. I didn't need it, but the other two in my party did. I wasn't all that excited about the spa, to be honest. I went along because it was part of the package. I was wrong. The "thermal circuit" was just what the doctor ordered after that strenuous hike I just described! The hotel and spa are beautifully designed, and while the downstairs pools were a chaos of families splashing and yelling, the thermal pools are upstairs in a very-peaceful, adults-only section. Bottom line … this tour is worth every dime I paid for it … strong recommendation!
