Horrible tour and waste of money
This was such a horrible “tour” I wish I could give it 0 stars. After being picked up, I discovered that the driver of the van did not speak English and while the tour guide Gustavo did, he still addressed the group in Spanish because apparently the rest of the people already on the van were bilingual. I had to interrupt Gustavo to tell him that I didn’t speak Spanish and that this was supposed to be an English speaking tour. After that, Gustavo never really addressed the group as a whole again as I would have expected him to do on our way to Lake Atitlan. I have taken several tours all over the world and every tour guide I have had before Gustavo would sit at the front of the van or bus and explain the history of where we were going and something about the country itself. Gustavo simply sat in the van silent like he was on vacation himself. My 3 friends and I were the last to be picked up and although Gustavo had notified me the night before of the pick-up time, he was 30 minutes late. After getting a late start, we hit some traffic leaving the city that caused us to be even further behind schedule. After the traffic cleared and knowing that we were now behind schedule, instead of continuing on to Lake Atitlan, Gustavo had us stop for breakfast for 1 hour. This was not mentioned in the tour’s itinerary and was a ridiculous waste of time in light of the fact that we were already running very late. I could only guess that Gustavo was hungry and was going to get a free meal at the restaurant. In any event and after breakfast, we hit more traffic making us fall even further behind schedule but again, instead of talking to us and enlightening us on where we were and where we were going as any decent tour guide would do, Gustavo went to the back of the van to an empty seat and took a nap. We pretty much drove in silence all the way to Panajachel . When we got off the van, Gustavo led us to the waiting boat that looked like it was 50 years old and informed us that we didn’t have time to tour the lake or go across it to Santiago de Atitlan but would be visiting another village instead, that is, San Antonio Palopo. Basically, this meant that the tour that I took my 3 friends on and paid for was not anything close to what was described in the itinerary for this tour. At that village, we visited a store for shopping and walked up to a church. It was ridiculous. I did not have to pay over $100 per person to see and do what we did at this village. Again, Gustavo did not tell us anything about the village, its people or the church. After spending about an hour at this village, we returned by boat to Panajachel where we were told we would have 1 ½ hours for dinner. This was insane. We paid to tour Lake Atitlan and now we were instead going to spend another 1 ½ hours to eat after already spending an hour for breakfast. Any decent tour guide would have addressed the group and inquired as to what we wanted to do in light of the fact that we were running behind schedule and ask us whether we preferred to spend another 1 ½ hours eating or stick to the itinerary and tour the lake and visit Santiago de Atitlan as described in the printed itinerary. I am confident that my fellow travelers would have opted for a tour of the lake as promised instead of taking the time for another meal as everyone seemed to be upset by this change in plans. After we had our dinner, Gustavo informed us we could have an additional ½ hour to explore Panajachel but according to the itinerary described on your website, we were to “stroll down Santander Street in Panajachel with our local guide.” Another description in the website’s itinerary that was never delivered. I blame the tour guide for the decisions he made. He obviously only cared about himself and never for a moment had our best interests at heart. The tour that I paid good money for was a waste as nothing that was described in the itinerary was delivered. Additionally, I was embarrassed in front of my friends because I had picked this horrible tour. I have been a huge fan of Tripadvisor for several years and I cannot emphasize enough how horrible this tour was and how disappointed my friends and I were.

A fun day trip from Antigua!
My friend and I booked this trip since we wanted to do a day trip from Antigua. The pickup/drop off service was excellent. There were 5 other people in our group which was nice, not too crowded. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was nice and tried to be as accommodating as possible, even personalizing the trip based on our preference (spending more time at one place vs others). I think the only thing that could be improved is the time we spent at panjachel. we went through four different cultural learning/experiences (weaving, chocolate making, honey, and coffee making). these could have been made a bit better or scrapped completely. The demonstrations were very rushed it was more of an opportunity for us to shop, we probably could have done that on our own if we got the time to explore the island a bit more. Overall an excellent day trip! :)

          Amazing Way to Visit Tikal
From booking until the end, this trip was absolutely wonderful! The company was very communicative so that we knew exactly what to expect. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Tikal as well as the history of the people. We saw coatli, crocodile, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and a variety of birds. The included lunch was delicious and felt like a great reward after all that hiking! The only suggestion I have for improvement is to provide more details about the pick up from the airport, although when we asked questions the company was immediately responsive in giving us answers. Absolutely would recommend!

7-Day Tour of Guatemala and Copan with Guatemalan Adventures - Our Impressions
I and my sister want to thank Guatemalan Adventures and Lorenn Hernández in particular for the well-organized and interesting tour of Guatemala and Copan (7 days/6 nights). We travelled with this tour agency in March 2024. We are glad that we chose Guatemalan Adventures as our tour agency when we decided to go to this country. And we are especially happy that Lorenn Hernández was our coordinator of the tour. She is a real professional! To start with, Lorenn helped us to make an itinerary of the tour, paying attention to all our requests and adapting the program to our needs. She is very flexible and helpful. When we arrived, everything was perfectly organized and went on rather smoothly. We felt safe and under their protection and care all the time. We appreciate their quick responses to all our questions on the way and efficient solutions to unexpected minor problems. All the hotels were good, especially in Guatemala City, Copan and Antigua. All the guides were also great - helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. The museums were excellent. We visited the museum in Copan (it is a must while visiting Copan ruins, as it adds a lot to the site – the museum is a gem in this collection). We also visited Popul Vuh museum and Archaeological museum in Guatemala City. Although both these museums are devoted to archaeology, they are quite different and at the same time they are both very interesting. Besides, Archaeological museum is now free of charge. We will definitely recommend this tour agency to anyone who wants to visit Guatemala.

          Best time!
Our guide was Davis! He was absolutely amazing! It was a long drive from the city to the lake but he always reminded us that he will gladly stop for restroom and food breaks. He knew a lot about the history and volcanos. He gave us plenty of time to explore throughout the whole trip. He was super friendly and knowledgeable. 10/10

Semuc Champey alone was worth it. Very convenient to be driven around. Tour guide was excellent! Park Hotel was also very nice and the food was good. Breakfast was also nice, coffee was good. Pick up was right at hotel so also great. 🇬🇹

          Great time on lake Atitalan
The views were amazing. Eduardo Lee and his father were our guides. They were great, made the trip very safe and transportation in the vehicle and boat were awesome. Highly recommended to use these two. We also stopped at two local restaurants they suggested for breakfast and lunch along the way along with many cultural stop in San Juan. Thanks again

          Pacaya on horseback.
It was a fun ride up on a horse, walking around seeing the views up top and a quick ride down. I would recommend a horse for 200 Quetzales each way rather than walking up rocky slippery incline. We saw the sunset which was very beautiful and a unique experience, & roasted marshmallows in the heated ground.

          Not worth the price
The traffic was terrible which seems to be a common occurrence - if this is the case why isn’t the tour starting at an earlier time in order to avoid spending the majority of tour time in traffic. We ended up rushing through the stops and in the last one we were only there for a few minutes.

Head the warnings in the reviews!
We had several issues throughout the day with our tour guide. We do feel like our experience didn’t get fulfilled because he wasn’t able to provide a proper tour or answer basic history questions. We also watched him undermine several local women intelligence when he was forced to ask for directions. My highest point of concern was having to beg to use the restroom on the way home and after waiting over half and hour for him to stop he suggested that I use the restroom on the side of the highway. Overall there was a lack of time management, planning and respect. Edit: When I did try to speak to tour operator Loren about the issue I was only bombarded by messages from our guide saying he did the job as planned. I don’t care if we get the refund but I would warn others that their idea of planning is poor.

          Chichicastanago Market, Guatemala
Oscar met us at the airport with the van and driver and we drove to ChiChi Market. He is an experienced guide with excellent English. All four of us enjoyed our day at the market, church and cemetery of Chichicatanago, a very Mayan community. Fascinating to see the blend of Catholic and Mayan religions!

5 stars from beginning to end!
Everything from the pick up from our Airbnb to the guide home to the top of Pacaya was 5 stars! Our driver and tour guide was knowledgeable in Guatemalan history. Our guide up Pacaya, though dost speak much English, was funny, knowledgeable of the mountains and was ever so helpful! I’ll recommended this tour group to anyone that asks!

This tour is highly recommended if you visit Guatemala!
If you are in Antigua, this should be on your bucket list! The tour started off by being picked up by our Tour Guide, Oscar Calderon. He was prompt and arrived on time. After our introductions we left for an approximately 3 hour drive to Lake Atitlan. Although the drive was long we had an excellent tour by Oscar that the time flew by very fast. Oscar is an extremely intellectual person and gave us the insights of Guatemala history. He spoke perfect English and is extremely very knowledgeable in the Mayan history and culture. As we drove by we given details about the nearby people as the styles of clothing worn by females. Attention to detail was given in this tour. We then stopped off at a nearby restaurant place called Katok Ingreso. This place reminded me of a place in the mountains and had a rustic feel. Traditional dress was worn by the females inside and the place had a very good mountainous feel to it. The restaurant was very clean and the food looked amazing. However, it was a pit stop and we continued with our adventure to the lake. On the way we made another stop at an aerial view where we could see an additional view of the lake. Thereafter, we made our final visit to the lake where we took a boat to San Juan. From there we visited several stops at nearby vendors and highlights of the area. We went to a place where they showed us how the people there make handmade scarfs and other items by hand. Afterwards, we learned how to make chocolate as well as primitive medicine from descendants of the Mayan people. This trip did not disappoint as we were constantly involved as Oscar shared his expertise on the Mayan culture and how it has evolved into the future of Guatemala. Thereafter, we took a boat back to where we had an excellent lunch and then back to Antigua. Overall, if you want to experience a memorable tour, I highly recommend this company and definitely recommend Oscar Calderon as your guide. He is very personable and your tour will end with a truly remarkable experience!

          Mayan Culture & History Tour!
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour with Oscar Calderon. He is full of knowledge and really loves the Mayan culture. We loved that he kept giving us history on the Mayan culture along the way, so it made the ride to and from Lake Atitlan short. He took us to shops where we learned about chocolate making, natural medicine, and the weaving process. We ate a nice lunch at a good restaurant in Panajachel too! I highly recommend this tour!

WONDERFUL COUNTRY BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE TOUR AND ORGANIZATION
We travel with GUATAEMALAN ADVENTURE in DECEMBER 2023, 4 friends in a private tours. The organizations has been very bad, poor guides, very bad drivers, they even do not know where we had to go, asking everyone during the trip. Very bad vehicles, old and not suitable for 4 peoples. During the Tour we had always to call the guides/drivers arrive with very long delays ( over an hours). The Tour was very bad coordinate and organized we paid for visits we have not done, we had a lot of problems with this Tour operatour. They are not serious and absolutely not recommendable. We travel all around the world since 35 years, Guatemala is a wonderful Country, but the worst experience we had ever done with a Travel Agency. What they had presented to us has not corresponded to the real services they have offered, but we have paid based on the proposal thety have done. Therefore, we asked us to refund us all the services we have paid but not received, they refund us a very small amount, which does not compensate all the disservices we have done, but surprise in refunding they money they charged us the commission!!

We do enjoy the day trip fling there. We do not mind getting up early for the transfer to airport but do have a concern for those who are not physical ready. There is a lot of walking. Depending on the guides, some will take you through the forest and that may become challenging for some people. If the guides follow the road, then it may be a longer way to go through the most important spots.
They do have simple transportation within the park. However, the little pick-up there is very old and I do question about the safety. Overall the arrangements were good and the lunch was enjoyable. As far as hotel pickup and drop off it was very good. Also the mini-bus from Flores Airport to the Tikal Park entrance has AC which is important as the temperature in Tikal can be 20+ degrees higher than Guatemala City on a regular day.

We had a significant flight delay in the morning, but it was all still worth it! Without our guide, Tikal would have been just a pretty walk, but with the guide it was full of amazing history and context that we would not have received otherwise. The lunch was served in an outdoor restaurant and the food was excellent. It was a great way to start a big day of walking. Overall, the sheer historical depth of the site, and the vastness of it is mind-blowing. For sure, it is a full day of walking and climbing, bring walking shoes, water and snacks. If this trip is in your price range, or at the edge of it, I recommend doing it, this trip is is worth every penny. (FYI: for nervous flyers, know that the planes we flew on were very small but the flights were short and it was still worth it.)

What a very full day and so worth it with an amazing experience throughout. Pick up was on time despite the early hour. The guide coached us through the airport experience and told us what to expect on the return to Guatemala City. On the Flores side the guides and drivers were some of the best we’ve experienced. So courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and gave us plenty of time to explore in our own. They clearly care about the park itself, the important history of Tikal and that everyone leaves with an appreciation of this important UNESCO world heritage site.

Our plan return was 2 hours late (not the tour’s fault, that’s just life in Guatemala sometimes) and the driver was there to pick us up a we came out the door. So smooth..

Only downside was the car was quite fragrant from previous sweaty occupants and we had to roll the windows down. Not tragic .. easy fix

I used Guatemalan Adventure for multiple tours, including this one to Tikal, but also Antigua, Pacaya and Atitlan. I had different guides every time and they were all fantastic, knowledgeable, accommodating, spoke English and went above and beyond. Milton (Tikal), Carmen and Mirko were so great! They took us off the beaten path and showed us hidden gems. I did the same tour to Atitlan with Carmen and Mirko on different weekends and they showed me different things, and I liked the variety. The transportation was prompt and always on time. Henry was such a kind driver. Natalia helped me with my booking, which involved multiple pick up’s and drop offs from different locations. She was the best. I fully recommend Guatemalan Adventure tours and would use them every time.

Wonderful time. Would highly recommend this tour. It’s an early morning, but you can sleep on the plane and bus ride home. The tour recommends long pants, and I am glad I did. Also, it’s very hot and sunny and a little buggy so bring bug spray and sunblock. There are places to buy water, Gatorade and snacks in the park.

Aquilino has to be the best tour guide we’ve ever had! The experience to Tikal was substantially enhanced due to his fun personality and passion. We were picked up from the airport and dropped off later in the evening by the same driver, that was a seamless and smooth process. Checking into our flight both ways was also easy to navigate given the instructions from the tour operator. There were no hidden costs, the trip and expectations are exactly as they’re laid out. We had hours and hours of education while walking and climbing this fantastic historic metropolis. Cheers to Aquilino for not only adapting to his group but making sure we were all given the best experience of a lifetime. A truly talented tour guide, we appreciate you!

This was a fabulous day trip. What made it extra special was our tour guide. Erdo did not just show us the ruins, but showed us all the animals who lived around in the adjacent area. He knew the sound they made and we could find them from off in the distance.Tikal is a magical place and Erdo made it even more spectacular. Miguel our driver was fabulous. whatever you pay these two you should pay them more. Take this trip you won’t be disappointed.

Favorite part of the experience was climbing the temples. My partner and I also really enjoyed that the guide said the tour information in both English and Spanish. It was really helpful for learning more Spanish during our Guatemala trip! Some tips for future travelers is to have sun protection, and bring Quetzales because there is opportunity to buy water during the tour.

        Everything was nicely organised.
Driver picked us up from hotel at 4.15 am, dropped us at La Aurora airport with instructions to go to TAG airlines counter. Check in was easy. Guide picked us up at Flores airport. Tour was good. Total walk was about 7km.
        Lunch provided was very good.
Dropped us back to the airport in the evening. Flight back to Guatemala City and the same driver picked us up and dropped us back to the hotel around 6.30pm.
Long day, but totally worth it.
