This is a fully immersive experience that connects you to the world of ancient Mayan rituals and insights into the Cosmovision. The sacred cave the ceremony was performed in had a great view over the lake but was a little difficult to access. The shaman chanted blessings and made offerings for just over an hour. To hear your name called and the fire pop and burn brighter, was a definitely a highlight. During the ceremony the shaman poured drops alcohol over our heads and urged us to stand in the smoke from the fire. After the ceremony the shaman then relayed the messages she received for each person to help guide you in life.

Intense fire ceremony, Alex was a great guide and he even took me round Solola market afterwards! Beautiful day, I miss Panajachel very much.

Only issue was I couldn't tip Alex in cash as I would have preferred - Kayak told me to bring an extra 100Q for the ceremony materials... it ended up being more like 200Q (even for a small no frills ceremony) and I had no cash left! Kayak let me tip him online though and I hope he got it.

Firstly- we had THE best guide!! Samuel!! I couldn’t have imagined having anyone better suited to take us on this journey. Myself and 6 friends embarked on this journey together.. none of us hikers- nyc walkers, but not legit mountain hikers- it was a little precarious at moments, but Samuel was very patient with us old not in top notch shape travelers. It is also 5000 ft up, so know that going in as well... it what we saw and experienced was beautiful. Highly recommend!! And thank you lee for accommodating our group despite our timing issue.

This was the third time I have had Alex take me and a group of people to the Sacred Caves outside of San Jorge. A couple of the times there have been actual ceremonies going on. This trip my family and I went with Alex on the Day of Water; a very important day for the Mayans. The cave was packed and there was at least 6 ceremonies happening at the same time. After observing for a while, we went out on to the rock known as the Drangon's Head for our own ceremony that was performed by our guide Alex. It was a truly amazing experience!

Meet Lee and pick-up another couple and headed up to San Jorge for a great adventure. Visited a Maximon in the village, then bought some candles and incense and headed for the secret caves. The first cave we visited a Mayan ceremony was going on and we were advised that they had "explosives" in the fire. After the "priest" caused them to explode, we entered the cave to see the offerings. We then headed to a second sacred cave and performed our own ceremony. Morning was topped off by a short hike up to Eagle's Nest. Very educational and authentic.
