Excellent experience
Oct 2021 • Couples
I felt very safe in the tricky roads of Hana but Damien was skillful, confident and distracted most of us from feeling fearful because of his great knowledge of Maui- its history and the local community resources and places to enjoy. He's attending to our questions and even sensitive to our individual r needs. He knows the plants, trees, fruits and explained them to us- a real wealth of knowledge.

This would have been great if the driver had done even the most basic research behind the outlandish nonsense he seemed to ad ho
The ups:
- driver was on time
- driver was friendly
- everyone in the van got along
- great stops along the way
- air conditioning worked

The downs:
Thought we'd learn a lot and....didn't. Hopefully the driver sees this, and though he's a Happy guy, consider it for prep work to make himself better. Why? Because he told so many untruths along the way I began to wonder if he was creating a list of "Can you believe I told my passengers this BS?" to share with others later.

What do I mean?

Here's the list I started, to pass the time:
- Hana Maui hotel - $300-$800 per night, no AC no internet nothing. (Pricing true, lack of amenities totally false)

- Sea Branch cottages Hana $3000-$8000/ per night, no tv, no AC, no internet (no true about pricing or amenities)

- 1 tiger on island brought by someone rich because "rich people in private planes don't have to go through security" (not true)

- Road to Hana has 1,000 or 3,000 cars per day (gave us both numbers 3 hours apart, and to be clear 1,000 is correct after doing some research)

- Oprah had a wall built along road for $3.5M (could find zero to substantiate this, and it felt like he pulled it absolutely out of the air, as the wall he pointed to as being "the one" was exactly like all the other ones)

- mainland states sending homeless to Hawaii and sedating them against their will - w the biggest offender being California. (not true)

- spam is kept under lock and key at some grocery stores bc it's so valuable (true - but 4 years ago - not anymore)

- people can own rivers in Hawaii

- seemed to try to scare people about sharks in the waters around Hawaii. In fact, they're very passive animals who keep a distance and - as one passenger said - "we are more likely to be in an accident in the van than to get bit by a shark - if we were actually swimming with sharks"

- said coconuts and palm leaves are equally dangerous to people underneath them (true I my if you both are in a vacuume, which they are not)

Aloha! In Response, We're glad that your driver was friendly and on time, everyone onboard got along, stops that was made throughout the day was great! That makes for a wonderful tour. Information you received, identifying of plants and trees along the way, name of districts and locations are always appreciated by our guest. Personal touch, our drivers will share information that you can only get through the life experience of a native born and raised in Hana. Hotel Hana Maui in the late 70's rooms were going for that price and no tv or ac. Resort sold in the early 80's to Caroline Hunt, underwent major renovations Sea Ranch Cottages for their high end clients paid that price per night and stayed weeks at a time still no tv or ac Travaasa new owners did the same. Today the Mani Brothers purchased the resort last year September and will under go a major renovation for their high end clients. Owners of private planes are driven in a limo. right to the door of their plane parked at a specific location at the airport. 1000 to 3000 cars on any given day before the pandemic was observed. That's why today you need a QR Code to enter Waianapanapa State Park. Managing crowd control and the State of Hawaii working on other restrictions. Oprah owns two parcels of land in Hana, One parcel as you exit the town of Hana and enter Hamoa through Lehoula were your driver pointed out the stonewall fence She built outlining her property. That was built by Peter Senenci and his crew also, residence of Hana. Homeless people sadly are given a one way ticket to Hawaii our governor is thinking of sending them back to their land. Spam under lock and key only in Hawaii. There are a few stores that continue this practice today although most have stopped this practivce. Shark sightings are more prevalent today due to the population growth of the green sea turtles. Maui has the highest number of tiger sharks and the most attacks in the state. Coconut and Palm leaves are equally dangerous falling to the ground at an average height of sixty feet. We share ancient history, modern history, plants, animals and current issues facing the Hawaiian people today. There are bits of information on our tours that our visitors at times may not feel is significant or important. However to the people of Hana and or Hawaii in general, the information provided to you is very important here in our homeland, in one way or another as it relates to political stature, health and overall life in the Islands. The lifestyle here, the history and the like are at times difficult to relate to and or understand by those who come through. Aloha!! There are a lot of times where due to the involvement of everyone in conversation, not all facts and information are presented as you continue your journey. A lot of times the drivers will interject jokes and sarcasm to create a fun filled atmosphere. There are times when guest take this information as being real when its more a a joke of sorts. Perhaps our drivers may have to tone the jokes down a tad bit to ensure information is interpreted correctly which makes way for a much more elegant experience.

Charleston rocked the road to Hona
Oct 2021 • Couples
Charleston made this trip fun and informative. I saw so much vegetation, water, and made amazing stops. My favorite was the banana bread and garden stop. Best pictures came from the black sand beaches. I can't say enough about Charleston and he couldn't say enough on the trip. Talk talk talk...you will not regret this tour, this company, or this guide! Love

Best way to see Hana - with Charlie
Oct 2021 • Solo
Charlie drove me to Hana today and it’s been the best part of my trip to Hawaii, hands-down. He picked me up at my hotel exactly on schedule. Despite the fact that it rained for the first half of the drive, he made the trip very fun—and I learned a lot about the landscape, infrastructure (so many bridges!), plant life (his nickname is Flower Boy!), and Hawaiian culture. Great info, answered all my questions—and trust me, I asked a LOT—with patience and wisdom. He could be a stand up comic in his free time, and it wouldn’t surprise me—lots of good jokes. Lots of bad jokes too, but hey, not every single one can be a winner. He assisted us in taking photos and even coached a little for better pictures. As for the driving: I get carsick really easily, but Charlie said he would pull over for me at any time, offered to let me ride shotgun, repeatedly asked how I was doing. He was a really fantastic driver and I experienced minimal carsickness! Never felt like we were about to fall off a cliff, I felt very safe the entire trip. Lunch (Boars Head subs and chips) and a snack (assorted granola bars and chips) was provided, plenty of drinks (water, coke, Diet Coke, Fanta) available for a long day. My only complaints: Charlie needs to bring better weather with him next time!

A gorgeous time!
Oct 2021 • Friends
Damien, AKA The Local Boy, was incredible! Very knowledgeable, funny, and entertaining! He made sure we all had a great time and memorized all our names very quickly to give us an overall special experience. He’s a Maui born and raised local, thus providing us a rich history of the island and giving us tips on how to have a safe and fun vacation on Maui. I learned so much about the wildlife, the plants, the various small towns, and more! He was early to pick us up, so be sure you’re on time! Also bring a light rain jacket and some cash/a card to buy goods at the various stops along the way! Overall such an amazing experience!

Great local flavor
I enjoyed the various stops we took- at Sandy’s banana bread, 7 sacred pools, Hana town, the back way to/from Hana, and a little fruit/snacks stand!

You'll see beautiful sights, its maui. Book this if you literally can't figure out another way around the island to see Hana. If you can figure out a way to just go to the black sand beach on your own, id say just go with that and have you're own vibe/day.
