The Manaslu Trek, Wow!!
Having trekked the Annapurna circuit last year, I wondered if the Manaslu Route would be able to surpass the joy of last year, I need not have worried.
The circuit is a beauty; challenging but rewarding. The long 20km days to begin with, followed by shorter days at higher altitude, helped to ensure that everyone made it over the pass. From walking through tropical forests in narrow valleys, to seeing the majestic Manaslu and Samdu Peaks, the whole circuit is a natural wonder. Even the last day from Bintang to Dharapani, would surely classify as one of ‘top 10’ day walks in the world!
This is the second trip with Ecoadventure and I am very glad to have used them once again. Travelling with 2 other chaps who had not trekked before, the opportunity to borrow key kit was very helpful. I requested Anil Rai as my guide and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to any group. Yes, there maybe other guides with slightly better English, but if you want the consummate professional, look no further. From his evening briefings to carrying bags when we were struggling, the whole group were delighted with my choice.
Given the changeable weather, we decided to combine with a couple of other groups for the majority of the circuit (indeed, one of the joys of trekking is meeting likeminded people). It was noticeable to see that even around other guides, Anil was the one who others looked to and fellow trekkers commented on how professional and caring he was.
A huge ‘shout out’ and word of thanks must also go to Dipesh, a guide in the making who acted as a porter and unofficial number two. Credit and thanks to Gokhana, who was acting a porter for his first Manaslu Trek, he worked hard and enjoyed the landscape and laughs as much as we did. If you unsure about using a porter, I would say to use them but don’t overpack your bag for them to carry. They help to make the walking easier for you and also provide work for the locals, which is very much needed.
I would thoroughly recommend the Manaslu Circuit and if you have lots of time, why not look to undertake the ultimate circuit, combining it with Tsum Valley and the Annapurna Circuit? Just be sure to add in rest days!
Finally, a big thank you to the ever efficient Chatra and his ability to handle last minute requests. I look forward to planning my next adventure to Nepal already!

I highly recommend trekking with Nepal Trekking Experts -- especially if you are going to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek! Rajesh, Thakur D. (our guide), and Thakur N. (our porter) are all from the Manaslu region and their depth of knowledge of the area was evident in every part of our experience.
This is my second trek with Rajesh. He was my guide for a Langtang trek in 2014, and when I heard that he'd started his own company, I couldn't wait to support him when planning this second trip. I'm so glad we did!
Because we booked in advance, we were able to get one of their team's most senior guides, Thakur D. He was excellent! He answered all our questions, had a great sense of humor, made us feel safe, and knew so much about the route and area. Thakur N. was a wonderful porter. He carried our heavy bags without a single complaint, was always helpful at the tea houses, and was a serious Dhumbal competitor (bring a deck of cards and ask him to teach you how to play!).
Another reason to choose Nepal Trekking Experts:
While on the trail, it was clear that not all guides & trekking companies are equal; very few matched ours in professionalism and none beat ours in experience. Our guide, Thakur D., had 10+ years of experience over other guides and does a Manaslu trek 2-3 times a year. Other guides were choosing tea houses because of Thakur's recommendation, and I observed him mentoring other guides while we were hiking.
Also, I trusted his experience over all other guides on the trail and felt safer having him in the lead. For example, when we went over Larke Pass, a winter storm blew in, limiting visibility. It was Thakur that knew the route best and led the way down the mountain not only for us, but for all other trekkers and guides on the trail at the time.
All in all, there are many choices out there, but none beat Nepal Trekking Experts! I highly recommend them!

I had an excellent Mt. Manaslu trek in October 2022 with Nepal Trekking Experts & can whole heartily recommend them.
I was impressed with their professionalism, personablity, communication and organisation. I really valued the stress free aspect of the whole trip, for example NPE will meet you at the airport, transport you to your hotel, organise all alpects of the trek including trekking permits, arange all accommodation, provide a porter if you want one (recommended 🙂), help purchase any last minute items (in our case we needed crampons, as the pass was covered in snow), as well as providing excellent knowledgeable and experienced trek guiding.
I waited until I was in Kathmandu and could meet trekking companies offering Mt. Manaslu treks. Nepal Trekking Experts stood out from the 4 other recommended companies I spoke with: Rajesh is very professional, knowledgable, competent and well organised. Their fee for the trip was reasonable.
Our group was small, a Dutch couple, Excellent Guide: Lok (beware, Lok is very good at card games, never misses a trick:) ), Binod, our strong porter and me. We trekked most days 4-6 hours, staying in simple tea houses (private 2 person rooms). Tea houses have restaurants attached, you will get to know Dal Bhat..
The trek was spectacular, we had amazing views of many mountains and glaciers. There were many unforgettable moments and stunning photos! The flora and fauna slowly changes from tropical to alpine over the days hiking, which is interesting, it's not until day 4 that you start to see the big mountains. Most days are 3-5 hours walking.
I have no hesitation in recommending Nepal Trekking Experts & will trek with them again next year.

I do not generally write online reviews but I was so impressed & thankful for the good fortune in choosing Nepal Trekking Experts I thought I must.
I would not hesitate in recommending them & in particular Rajesh, Ram our guide & Santosh our porter. From initial contact via email thru to my final day (2 weeks after finishing our trek) in Nepal when Rajesh came by to say goodbye & who had organised airport transport they were faultless & professional.
During our trek one member struggled on the longer strenuous days, Ram our guide did not hesitate to step in, carrying his pack & walking with him as much as possible. Ram was always cheerful, happy & extremely knowledgeable. Santosh our porter was supportive, attentive & helpful whatever the situation. We adjusted our itinerary by shortening it, Rajesh was very understanding making additional arrangements quickly & effectively. He was very fair when swapping flights or modes of transport, nothing seemed to be a problem or beyond his ability to make adjustments.
Looking back I cannot think of a single fault with my experience with Nepal Trekking Experts & their team. Thanks once again guys.

Rajesh was an awesome host. He ensured we had the best overall experience possible. He ensured a warm welcoming and transfer from the airport to our selected hotel and back on the dates we wanted as we arrived before the trek and stayed longer after as well. He selected a great guide and porter for our family. The porter had a pretty good english and we were able to communicate with him as well as the guide which was a big plus! Throughout the trek, our guide was in contact with Rajesh in office and all issus were addressed rapidly when they arose (mostly without our direct knowledge). We felt safe and as though the best Tea Houses and rooms were chosen for us by the Nepal trekking expert team. Our 2 children (10 and 11 years old) are great trekkers but the team were flexible on the planned schedule to accommodate any rest days we felt were necessary.
We also did the Tsum Valley along with the Manaslu circuit and this was a great suggestion! We would definitely recommend this itinerary and trekking company as they put the heart in soul in giving you the experience of a life time.

I recently completed the Manaslu Circuit trek via the upper route with 'Nepal Trekking Experts' in October last year. It was an amazing experience, my first Himalayan trek. The owner Rajesh was very helpful with planning and advice both in Kathmandu and via email, making me feel very confident about this trip and giving good advice about the equipment I needed. It was especially nice to be picked up from the airport by him - arrival at night in a strange city can be quite daunting! Although bad weather conditions were being reported in the high valleys around Manaslu, he kept me updated and planned a safe trip. I joined a group of 11 other trekkers for this trip, and we shared jeeps up to the trailhead at Barpak. The trekking team, with guide Rabin in the lead, and guides/porters Gakul, Kritam and Santosh, were always helpful and cheerful and couldn't do enough for us during the trek. They liked to entertain us with dancing and song, and were all smiles despite their loads and liked to chat. Their local knowledge of Manaslu proved invaluable when we needed a quick change of plans due to changes in path conditions, they always seemed to know how to get round any obstacles we came upon. As a bonus their cooking skills meant we always had a tasty range of meals in the teahouses. Although members of our group walked at different speeds, we always managed to find the way, helped by the team who kept with us all day. Their encouragement was especially appreciated particularly on the long, long day crossing the snowy Larkye La pass. Great service all round from the company and team and good value for money too. There was so much to appreciate on this circuit, from the grand vistas of snowy peaks, deep valleys, airy bridges, smiling faces, giggling kids and colourful mountain villages. I will certainly use Nepal Trekking Experts again when I return to Nepal for more adventures.

Just got back from trekking Tsum Valley and the Manaslu circuit, and we could not be more grateful for Rajesh, Ganesh (our guide for the trek) and team!
Communication and assistance were spotless. From the first email we received accurate information, and Rajesh always responded within the hour on any inquiry we might have. The airport pickup service was greatly appreciated after a long flight, and when meeting up at the office in Kathmandu we got a good introduction to our trek. Rajesh went above and beyond to make sure we had a seamless and enjoyable experience. Rajesh immediately understood our wants for the trip, and allowed us to make changes to our itinerary last minute to better suit our expectations. We are particularly grateful for Rajeshes flexibility, trust and professionalism when we ran into issues when organizing our trip the first day in Kathmandu. An error in our planning which with other companies might have quickly halted the trek was dealt with and sorted by Rajesh in less than half an hour. - We are impressed!
We are beyond happy with our trekking guide and trail friend for the journey, Ganesh! With a big smile and easy going personality Ganesh were attentive to our every need, and made sure we were always comfortable. He always took us to the best places along the trail, and were of great help when we got sick or ran into other issues along the trail. A great guy to trek alongside with, and a master momo-maker! Our warmest recommendations for this guy if you are heading into the Manaslu region, we will miss walking with you Ganesh!

Rajesh immediately understood our wants for the trip, and allowed us to make changes to our itinerary last minute to better suit our expectations. We are particularly grateful for Rajeshes flexibility, trust and professionalism when we ran into issues when organizing our trip the first day in Kathmandu. An error in our planning which with other companies might have quickly halted the trek was dealt with and sorted by Rajesh in less than half an hour. - We are impressed!
We are beyond happy with our trekking guide and trail friend for the journey, Ganesh! With a big smile and easy going personality Ganesh were attentive to our every need, and made sure we were always comfortable. He always took us to the best places along the trail, and were of great help when we got sick or ran into other issues along the trail. A great guy to trek alongside with, and a master momo-maker! Our warmest recommendations for this guy if you are heading into the Manaslu region, we will miss walking with you Ganesh!

I have trekked extensively around the world and one trick I find is to use a well rated local agency as service is better,they are far better if anything goes wrong and all the money you spend stays in the country….plus it’s a lot cheaper . Rajesh runs an excellent organisation which I dealt with all over the COVID period and he proved to be an excellent partner. He responded quickly and efficiently snd kept me fully updated with the situation on the ground. His guide Prakash and his his Porter Yadu were both excellent and helped to baby me around an incredibly hard trek and ensured I was successful despite the serious snow we faced crossing the pass . Manaslu is empty at the best of times and in this period was super quiet . Everyone else had booked with international firms were paying a lot more ( up to double ) yet were sharing rooms and porters while I had a guide and a Porter to myself , it was our own little team and both locals spoke excellent English. I cannot rate these guys highly enough . From picking me up at the airport , fixing a piece of my broken equipment to helping me with cars , shopping nothing was too much trouble. We, a group of 3, had the pleasure of visiting Nepal for three weeks starting at the end of October 2022.
The trip was very well organized and easily adjusted to our wishes by Rajesh who is always quick to respond, no matter the question. As a former guide he knows what he is talking about. In addition the FAQ on their website does cover 98% of all possible questions :).
Once we arrived in Kathmandu, everything was ready and we didn't have to worry about anything.
Airport pickup, nice hotel, equipment check, welcome dinner, meeting the guide, trekking permits - everything is organized, no hassle, no problem - there really isn't much you could do better!
After a few days in Kathmandu the trek begins and it really is an adventure. We were very lucky, the weather was perfect for 12 day and apart from some unexpected landslides and the limitations of our own bodies everything went as smooth as one can possibly expect.
Throughout the entire trek our guide Basanta took good care of us.
He gradually led us to (at least for us) unprecedented heights and made sure we had plenty of tea, Dhal Bhat and of course garlic soup. Ultimately, after some physical struggles and tough acclimatization days, we safely crossed the Larke Pass and celebrated the occasion with some well deserved Snickers!
Ironically, the way down turned out to be much more challenging than the way up due to lots of snow and ice on the trek. Luckily we were well prepared and with crampons and poles we all managed to reach Bhimthang.
Other groups on the trek weren't equipped with crampons and had to resort to lots of 'butt-sliding' which didn't look too pleasant for us :D.
Lastly we really want to say THANK YOU to the whole Team for making this trip possible!
In particular we want to thank our guide Basanta and our porters Ganesh and Rajesh which quite literally did the heavy lifting :).

The most incredible experience of my life!!!
My friend and I did the Manaslu Circuit Trek Upper Route, and loved it so much that we decided to do the Mardi Himal trek right after, both with Nepal Trekking Experts and Ganesh as our guide.
Ganesh always went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible; getting us the best rooms in the tea houses, choosing the less travelled route whenever possible, carrying apples and pomegranates in his pack for the entire trip so that we had dessert every single night, and the list goes on and on. He was extremely knowledgeable about all of the flora and fauna in each area and knew the names of every single peak we were looking at. Our porter Santa also took such good care of us, doing so much more than we expected, and was simply a joy to be around and spend each day with. Both Santa and Ganesh never made us feel rushed, they were extremely adaptable, endlessly patient, and gave us our space when we wanted it. We felt like a happy family by the end of the trip, it made it difficult to say goodbye!
Rajesh in the office made sure everything went smoothly from behind the scenes from the moment we first contacted him to inquire about the trek months before, to long after our trek was finished, answering all of our questions along the way and truly going above and beyond our expectations of what a trekking company would do for us during our time in Nepal. From permits, to route selection, to transport, they took care of absolutely everything.
I can’t say enough good things about the team at Nepal Trekking Experts. I am so grateful for them for giving me the most memorable trip of my life. 10/10!
