He even went out of his way at the end of the tour to show us china town on his own time, during lunch he took us to a great river side sea food restaurant great price, food and drink. Ken is very knowledgeable and he takes good care of the tour.Written 12 February 2025
- markcM4106ZJ0 contributionsJeath War museum disappointed, Bridge on River Kwai must see Erawan fun but tiringThis is a long day trip, departing from tour guide office in Chinatown around 7.15am and getting back into Chinatown at around 7.15pm, the first part of the journey is the long car journey to JEATH war museum in Kanchanburi where we are joined by the tour guide, the details of the construction, bombing and restructuring of the railway, there is a 7-8 minute video detailing the plight of the POW's forced to build the railway and details of the death toll and condition, had the POW camp been preserved in its entirety rather than just one POW hut it would have provided more depth, there are some interesting artefacts from the soldiers and POW's along with quite a few photos, from the riverfront is a 10-15 minute boat ride on a speedboat, you can cross the bridge on foot and take photos as an actual train pulls into the bridge, we didn't visit the 2nd part of the war museum which struck me as a missed opportunity, then off to Erewan falls National Park which is further 1 hour away, this a series of 7 waterfalls, the first is reached either by a tiring walk from car park/restaurant area but there are golf buggies which can do the leg work for you for 20 baht, you must wear a life jacket (another 20 baht) if you want to swim, these are very cumbersome, there are no toilets beyond second waterfall where the climb to each subsequent waterfall gets more tiring, this is not suitable for anyone with fitness issues or mobility issues. also trying to relax in a swimming pool with a massive life jacket is not ideal, the duration for this stop is 3 hoursWritten 12 February 2025
- melaniesO3034AD0 contributionsSo much fun!!The night tour was so much fun. The temples were amazing. Our tour guide, Tik, was so full of knowledge and explained so many things about the Thai Buddha religion. The food market at the end of the tour had amazing food. We got to try many Thai dishes we haven’t had the chance to experience yet. We booked this tour because of the other reviews and it didn’t disappoint. We definitely recommend doing it when visiting Chiang Mai.Written 12 February 2025

Hi, we took the Longtail Boat Tour which meets outside of a specific Elefin Coffee shop. We walked down an alley and along a raised platform to the dock where the boat was. We went down canals and saw a variety of homes, empty land or businesses along the canals. We also stopped at a temple with the largest Buddha in Thailand and another stop where you could shop, get a snack or use the restroom, and feed the fish. Then back to the original starting point.
Notes: I would not recommend this if you are physically challenged since you will have to get on and off the boat 3 times. Also would not be good for small children unless you are helping/watching them constantly.
Stop 2: There are no rails to protect people from falling in the canal at the very small shops there. Basically it is wooden walkways then a fall into the water if you are not paying attention. If you walk farther down, there is a bridge that goes over the canal. You can get some nice photos from here. Be careful since motorized two wheeled vehicles zip up either side. You should be on the stairs side of this not very wide bridge. There are a lot of fish in the water and you can buy fish food from the vendors.
The tour itself is highly recommended since it is inexpensive, you get to ride a Longtail, see a side of life which can't be seen from land and guided by friendly locals.
We sat very close to the front and the boat can bounce in the water when hitting bigger waves from other boats so you could get very lightly wet or sprayed but it's Bangkok so it might feel good. When going down the canals and encountering other boats, the boats would slow down to minimize bouncing.
One other thing, after exiting the boat at the end, we had to leave the area by going over a gate. The gate is about the height of straddling a bike or a little less. I can understand having a gate to keep small children from the water but couldn't it have been opened and people can walk out. This definitely would rule out people with disabilities or limitations. Also, why was there a raised walkway on the the way in/out towards the boat dock. On the way out, we just walked on the ground next to it.
Anyways, I really liked the tour and recommend it for capable people.

The 2 hour boat tour consisted of 2 stops (one at the big Buddha and another at the artist market). The view from the canal is amazing and we had a chance to see thai life. I definitely recommend doing this activity in the morning as it’s not energy intensive.

The long tail boat we boarded was very noisy so we could not hear the tour guide. It also smelled awful due to the engine, so I would recommend a face mask to protect from the pollution. We were not offered life jackets, although other tour providers had all their guests wear one. One guest on our tour asked the tour guide for a life jacket and the guide made jokes and did not offer one until another guest pushed for them. This was completely unprofessional. We did not stop at the Buddhas / Temples which I personally didn’t realise when reading the description. We stopped for 30 minutes at the floating market area with a temple, however, we were marched through on a circular walk and had no time to browse or purchase anything. All in all it was disappointing and felt extremely rushed. With not being able to hear the tour guide (which he was aware of) the tour felt pointless. We could have hired a boat instead. One plus was by booking the 3:30pm tour we did see the temple at sunset from the boat at the end of the tour, which was beautiful.

Disorganised getting people into groups .Tour didn’t start until over 15 minutes past starting times. Did not give a professional feel. Started with one tour guide then another 2 appeared at different times . Given instructions to go with one guide then suddenly swapped over to another with no explanation.
Not really a tour as such just a ride on the boat . Could not hear what guide was saying due to boat noise if the guide used a microphone that would be better. The front 2 guests were the only ones that could hear anything.
Quite a big drop from jetty into / out of boat with no support to hold onto. So would be difficult for some groups of people. I know it mentions mobility issues but I do not have any & found it not very easy to get in/ out of boat gracefully. Thankfully my husband & other passengers offered assistance.
Not really worth the money tbh.
Could do similar experience on your own.

I recently participated in a Bangkok Canal Tour, hoping for a unique perspective on the city from its historic waterways. Unfortunately, the experience fell significantly short of expectations for several reasons.
Firstly, there was not enough time spent on the boat itself. The allure of a canal tour is to explore the intricate network of waterways that define Bangkok's charm and history. However, the actual time on the boat was disappointingly brief, giving us only a fleeting glimpse of life along the canals. The majority of the tour was spent on land, which was not what I had anticipated.
Additionally, an excessive amount of time was allocated to visiting temples. While the temples are undoubtedly beautiful and culturally significant, the tour's itinerary included too many of them. This imbalance meant that we spent long periods walking through temple grounds instead of enjoying the scenic and serene canal views from the boat. The experience felt more like a temple tour with a brief boat ride rather than a true canal tour.
Moreover, the tour was marred by poor time management, particularly due to other customers not adhering to the set meeting times and places. This caused unnecessary delays and extended waiting periods, significantly cutting into our already limited time on the water. The lack of punctuality and coordination was frustrating and detracted from the overall experience.
Given these issues—insufficient boat time, an overemphasis on temples, and excessive waiting due to poor organization—I cannot recommend this canal tour.

Dear Heike,
Thank you for leaving a review, although it's not the kind of review we are always hoping for.
We are sorry to hear that the canal trip did not meet your expectations.
If time permits, we usually only get off the boat at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen where the tallest Buddha in Bangkok can be found. So I am a bit surprised to hear that the trip included 'too many' temples. Perhaps you can reach out to me directly as I would like to have more information and discuss it with the guide.
Meeting time for your tour start was at 9:30 AM with a 10-minute grace period (which is also mentioned on the tour page and in the confirmation we sent after booking). We clearly warn participants about Bangkok's notorious traffic, but it can still happen people are a bit delayed, so we think it's fair to provide a 10-minute grace period.
Despite your negative experience on our tour, I hope you had a wonderful stay in Thailand.
With warm regards,
Dave

Booked tour at short notice and enjoyed the introduction to life on the side canals to the main river. Encountered no delays on entry to the canal.
Artists Village was interesting and worthy of an independent visit and extended stay.
However, consider the price of the tour excessive and guide provided was very weak with little intervention or knowledge conveyed beyond the initial roll call and transfer to the boat. From reading other reviews I guess we were unlucky in this respect.

We had Joyce as our guide, and we were very grateful because he was incredibly nice, funny and could speak English very well, so we understood everything. He couldn't help it because we had to wait so long at the lock. Personally, I would have liked a bit more time in the artists village to visit several shops, because time was too short. The Big Buddha was unfortunately veiled, but we were able to get a good impression. It’s fun to ride in the canals with the longboard and we’ve seen a few corners that would otherwise have been denied us. We would definitely recommend the excursion for water enthusiasts, warbler sighting incl.

Met a bunch of cool people but the trip itself was some what of a hustle. Tour guide was struggling to get the boat guy to stick to the route and plan we paid for and instead took us through an internal route with no view of the temples. We only saw the temples when we were docking.
Tour guy contacted the agency which then said “its fine keep them on the boat”. To make up for it the tour guy off boarded us to walk around an area while apologising for the bad experience.
Did i have fun? Yeah
Will i do it again? Possibly
The raw experience was cool, the local guide was fun to hang out with. But, the
agency that organised this was kinda sketchy .

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the canal trip did not fully meet your expectations.
We really would like to apologise for the argument between the boat driver and our guide. We never had something like this happen before and it must have been quite embarrasing.
The guide contacted our office to discuss what to do. Since the tour was already underway, we suggested to continue the tour and we hope you understand our decision.
The boat drivers we use are independent and not employed by us or any other company, so you can be assured that we will not use this specific boat driver again.
Should you have any further concerns or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to us (info@wandersiam.com). We are dedicated to resolving any issues and enhancing our tours.
Once again, our apologies and wishing you a wonderful time in Thailand!

Please don’t book. Absolutely awful service, if I could give 0 I would.
We were booked onto a 12:30 tour, having read all the information provided and with Bangkok traffic we left our hotel an hour prior to departure. Sadly, we got stuck behind an accident and the traffic did not move for 40 minutes. I contacted the tour provider (again wasn’t easy to find their contact details). However, they were so unhelpful, I asked if I could rearrange and they could only offer 16:30 but wanted 400THB to do so, this wasn’t feasible with an infant. I then asked for a refund which I was told no as they had paid the guide and the hire of the boat, sir enough if we were the only people on the tour but we were not, so that did not make sense.
They then also still messaged me on the same what’s app group telling me the boat was departing even though I had already told them we would not make it in time.
Customer service needs work.
I would avoid this tour currently anyway, as we took ourselves to the Big Buddha, and quite frankly if this is the only temple the take you too then it is not currently worth it given that you cannot see the Buddha at all due to it being surrounded in scaffolding as it is being renovated. (I’ve attached a photo of the Big Buddhas current state)
I would advise hoping in a TukTuk paying far less, seeing the big Buddha but also Wat Arun Temple.

Sawadee kha,
Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with us.
Our contact phone number is mentioned on the Viator ticket which you received after you made your booking on their website.
You mention that you read all the information provided, so we assume that you also read the following important information mentioned in the “Additional Info” section of the tour page where you made your booking:
*****Bangkok's traffic is notorious. Since our tours are on a group basis, we would like to emphasize that you should arrive at the meeting point on time. If you cannot make it in time, please inform us before start of the tour. If possible, we will always do our best to reschedule you to the first available day/start time, but a change fee will apply.*****
Our staff politely informed you that we could move your reservation to the next available slot after 12:30 hrs for a small change fee of THB 200 per person. Since it is high season, the other slots were already fully booked, so they could only offer you the 16:30 slot.
We hope you do understand that we don’t provide a refund in case of no-show, which is quite common in the tourism industry and any other industries around the world.
When you reserved a plane ticket and you don’t arrive at the appointed time, the airline also won’t provide any refund, even though many other people are on board as well.
Despite you negative experience on our tour, we hope you'll have a wonderful time in Thailand.
