This was an amazing tour. Eli (Eliyahu) was amazing. He was not just a tour guide, he was very passionate about the entire tour, content, sites, and the history. We saw everything listed on the tour and them some. This was a great unusual tour that was enjoyed by all members on the tour. If you want to learn some real history and see history first hand this is the tour for you. I give this tour a 10+++ and Eli a 10 ++++ as well. So happy I was a part of this experience. Thank you Eli ...... Daniel - Texas , USA

I had the privilege to join the tour with Abraham Hostels on March 9th. Eliyahu is a truly amazing guide who took plenty of time to explain the situation in Gaza and on the Israel side of the border. He was also quite keen to answer any questions which we had. We were able to meet in person some residents of Gaza who were at the border crossing awaiting transport to Hospital in Ramallah. I would highly recommend the tour once they resume.

Eliyahu is a passionate and learned teacher dedicated to working on both sides of disputed borders. His tour route along the border brought is in contact with a number of loclas and many sites where he could share what actually happened and the many different stories around the meaning of the events, illustrating the many sides of the complex issues around Gaza. Every time I felt like I was starting to understand the issues, he would introduce another theory or perspective, point out a different knot in the web of expectations, needs, and justifications which make this geopolitical hot spot so intractable. I highly recommend this experience as a way to more deeply understand the problem.

Highly Recommended! This tour is a real experience. Extremely well prepared and well-balanced by local resident, knowledgeable guide Eliyahu, also with regard to the safety of all participants, so that background and different points of view become clearer. We visited many places along the fence and got a lot of interesting insights and information. We were able to talk to people on both sides of the fence and were deeply impressed by how much profound opinion our Gazan conversational partners granted us. Thus, we were able to record intensely touched both Israeli view and Gaza view in us. Thanxx to Eliyahu and all the extraordinary people who provided time and information for us.

This is an extraordinary tour not to be missed. I've visited Israel more than 20 times and this tour is a clearly a highlight. It helps dispel so many misconceptions many of us have from the news about Israel, Gaza and the Israel-Palestinean conflict. You get to meet and talk with everyday people who live in Gaza and Israelis who live near the border and sometimes, if available, Israeli soldiers. It's so moving to talk with actual Gazan people spontaneously who come to Israel for just some days to help support their impoverished families. How exciting to talk with a Gazan activist who risks his life to educate a new generation of Gazan youth for peaceful leadership and who become connected with Israeli youth and other youth around he world and to find out how we can help. How exciting to meet with an Israeli peace activist who spends her days in the near impossible task of trying to help average Gazan people come into Israel to study and pursue their career dreams. The tour guide, Eliyahu McClean, so respected by Gazans and Israeli peace activists, accomplishes the extraordinary task of trying to present the Palestinean and Israeli sides of the conflict with balance and integrity--from my experience rare. I'm considering taking this tour again because it's depth and honesty in explaining the enormous complexities of this middle eastern conflict zone. Some of the experiences on this tour, like at the Paths to Peace wall, brought tears to my eyes as I began to feel the possibilities of real peace in progress in a way I've never felt it before.

Unless you're the kind of person who visits Israel just to relax on the beach and go shopping, I 100% recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Eliyahu (and guide-in-training Eric) and our driver Maher really turned this day into an unforgettable experience and brought us closer to history and current events.

We started off at the Erez border and had the opportunity to talk to people from Gaza crossing to Israel for medical treatment. We then visited the Assaf Siboni lookout, where we had a great view of Gaza city in the distance. Then, we went to the ruins of the Sa'ad kibbutz, i.e. Ma'oz Mul Azza, which now serve as museums. The highlight of the trip was by far getting the chance to have a (Skype) conversation with people on the other side of the border. It is very inspiring, but also humbling to hear about young people sacrificing everything in order to fight for a better future and bring hope to the children of Gaza. After lunch at the new Sa'ad kibbutz, we visited Be'erot Yitzhak, which is very close to the Gaza border and is also a site that got completely destroyed in the '48 war. We then went to the Black Arrow Memorial, where Eliyahu also showed us shattered glass from an Israeli military van that got attacked by a missile from the Gaza area only a few months ago. The next stop was Sderot, aka the bomb shelter capital of the world, where we visited a yeshiva and a playground that also serves as a bomb shelter. We also visited Najd, a Palestinian Arab village that was left in ruins as the people had to flee to Gaza following the Israeli occupation in '48 that depopulated many places. Finally, we visited the Path to Peace workshop and listened to the story of an Israeli woman, her experience living close to the border wall and her efforts to bring the world together through her artwork on that wall.

Overall, it was an incredibly educating experience. Eliyahu told us a lot of aspects about history and current events and really made an effort to help us understand what's happening at the moment and why. I must add here that he really did his very best to be unbiased, but due to him being Israeli, there was a tiny bit of bias in his narrative, so it's important to take some of the information with a pinch of salt, but it was very minor.
As I went on the Best of West Bank tour the day after, which was led by a Palestinian guide, I saw both sides of the conflict much clearer and I very much recommend doing both tours to get the full picture.

I would give this tour 4.5/5. The tour was absolutely excellent, packed with information and it is just exciting after having read about the history or current events in textbooks or newspapers and then ACTUALLY visiting the sites and seeing it with your own eyes. This is not a tour for taking countless selfies. But it's also not a boring history lesson. It can also get quite emotional at times.

It is important to note that we felt very safe at all times and were given clear instructions should the sirens go off. However, the tour took place a few days after a ceasefire agreement and the guide is local to the area and checks the situation before giving his ok to run the tour, so there was no threat to begin with.

The only negative aspect was the drop-off, which was very uncoordinated (presumably since the tour was still relatively new at that time) and I would like to point out, again, that Maher was an absolutely excellent driver and really went out of his way to drop us all off safely.

Nevertheless, I had a fantastic day and would absolutely recommend this tour!

Eliyahu is a wealth of information. He incorporates history, current political info, and personal narratives into the tour. He took us to places where no other tourists go, so we could learn about the Gaza Strip as up close as possible. After two tours with him, I feel I am at least starting to get a grasp on some of the issues in Israel and Palestine. I am even more intrigued and interested in coming back after this tour. Definitely recommended!!!

It is a tribute to Eliyahu (the Israeli guide) and Maher (the driver of our mini-bus - a Palestinian) that the two of them have put together such a well-researched, "intelligent", informative, and most interesting, Tour. One can't beat seeing facts on the ground. I see participants in yesterday's Tour as having been extremely fortunate to openly, and informally, speak and "do" Q & A's, with Palestinians / Gazans at the Eretz Crossing, some modern Zionists in Srderot and an associate Professor in Gaza (this via Skype hook up) - other than the Gaza hook-up not pre-arranged. The narrative by Eliyahu was balanced and informative. To experience lunch in a kibbutz and visit a moshav right on the border / fence with Gaza was something not readily available to the casual tourist. Do yourself a favour....do the Tour and come away well-informed. Certainly no winners for either the Gazans / Palestinians or Israelis in the awful situation they both find themselves in.

We decided to book the Gaza border reality tour with Abraham hostels, after our amazing experience with Eliyahu as a guide during the Hebron dual narrative tour. The Gaza tour takes you to places that you're not able to go to on your own as a tourist. The tour may seem a little pricey in the beginning, but i can assure you that its worth every single penny. You'll see so many interesting places and will hear a lot of moving stories. A Gaza tour may sound risky, but i felt safe during the entire trip. I highly recommend this tour and the dual narrative tour in Hebron with Eliyahu if you're interested in the ongoing conflict between Israël and Palestina.
Kind regards,
