I recommend this cultural cooking class to anyone who is looking to learn heritage Singaporean recipes of yummy dishes, explore local culture, learn how to cook authentic dishes, expand knowledge in local spices and have fun. I had such an amazing experience and met a lot of new people! We cooked dishes together split in pairs and then ate what we cooked. Our Chef was Mrs. Teresa, a charming lady with a great sense of humor, very attentive and passionate about cooking. It was a great pleasure to cook under her guidance. I learned amazing recipes, local ingredients which I didn’t know before and I am definitely coming back! As I am looking forward to learn more!! Thank you so much to Daniel, the owner of the business and his Team! You are doing a fantastic job!

Teresa was our instructor and she was a fantastic teacher. She was patient, gave us history of specific foods you'll find in Singapore and taught us recipes that had been passed down from generation to generation. This program was fun, informative and I would highly recommend if you're wanting to try something new!

An excellent activity that not only bonds the group but leaves you with a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural food and, more important, a new found admiration for the tireless and unwavering hawkers who hone this one craft of theirs painstakingly for decades. Chwee Kueh and Ondeh Ondeh were the 2 dishes we chose and, suffice to say, our group now truly have a better picture how tedious the process of making these 2 food are and we will better appreciate and savour them more deliberately the next time we order them. The trainers were also very knowledgeable and patient in guiding us, sharing their nuggets of expertise along the way. In a nutshell, a truly fun-filled afternoon that allowed all participants to banter and bond, learn and appreciate - and perhaps the most amazing thing was all our food tasted very deliciously! Highly recommended for department / company learning journey or bonding.

My boyfriend and I did this class on our trip to Singapore, and it was just a wonderful way to spend a morning - Mary, our teacher, provided us with a super helpful introduction to Peranakan cuisine as well as some of the cultural context of each dish, and then taught us how to make spring rolls, laksa, and hoon kueh. All of the dishes were delicious, and she took photos for us the whole time so we could focus on cooking. Would definitely recommend taking this tour (at the beginning of your trip if possible, so you can learn about all the dishes to try at the hawker stands!)

People think I'm weird for seeking out a cooking class when I'm on holiday in a foreign city, but I find it's a perfect time to slow down and just embrace whatever I can learn about cooking and the culture of the place I'm visiting. I was surprised to find that more than half of the participants were young expats living in Singapore, who all seemed to enjoy the activity as much as I did. I loved the chicken curry and Roti bread dishes that we created. The teachers were friendly and interesting. I love that the Food Playground exists to support stay at home Mums to return to the workforce. Overall, I found much to admire in Singapore and the proactive way they are developing their country, very proud people.

I love the Food Playground! I've taken 2 on-site/in-person cooking classes there so far and both were such enjoyable & informative experiences! The instructors are so knowledgeable and supportive. (Mary is my favorite!) The facility is clean and well maintained. And the quality of the ingredients, cooking supplies and techniques is top-notch. It's a great way to learn more about local food & traditional recipes, and I can't recommend them enough!!

Came here with my girlfriend to attend the cultural cooking class on a Saturday morning. Learnt to make the curry chicken, roti jala and ondeh ondeh.

Our instructor for the day was Teresa. She was extremely lively and helpful throughout the entire programme. The day started with some basic introduction about Peranakan/ singaporean culture and cuisine. We were also given time to introduce ourselves to other participants as well.

Right after, we jumped straight into the cooking lesson. It was very well organised and Teresa was always there to help us while answering all of our queries. The end product was super tasty and it was rewarding to eat the fruits of our labour.

Overall a fantastic experience. This was more than just a simple cooking class. We got to interact with people from other countries and learnt even more about Singapore which I (a local) did not even know before. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a fully immersive culinary journey.

My wife and I attended the cooking class a few days ago. Teresa was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable. Besides learning to cook a few local specialties, we learned about the history of food in Singapore. Our lunch was the food we prepared and it was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the class and would recommend it to anyone interested in the local cuisine.

Nice informative session on SG food, culture and influences. Our representative cook was great, and the owner has a fabulous initiative to only employ local people who do not have formal training as a chef; instead women with a life long experience in a kitchen; who do not have an easy time finding jobs in Singapore. Some are women who has taken a few years off to raise their children and therefore find it almost impossible to get back into the workforce.

Also he employs senior ladies as kitchen hands who still wants to work. It’s a great concept and therefore also very authentic.

Very central location and easily accessible - also in an old traditional SG house (which was very professionally converted into a cooking school).

Everything was super well organized, and more important; I finally learned what I am doing wrong when making a laksa:)

The cooking class is located in an original shophouse in the heart of Chinatown, and presented by a very charismatic and knowledgeable host. Participants get to try their hand at preparing local dishes under the firm guidance of the host, followed by tasting. The class is professionally organized, and the host makes the experience personal and memorable. After the class you get the recipes you cooked and plenty of photos from the class. I highly recommend Food Playground for expats, locals, and visitors to Singapore as a unique entertaining and educational experience!
