For anyone wanting a break from the glitz and glamour of the bright lights of Singapore, this is welcome diversion.

This is the site of the underground headquarters of the British high command prior to the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942. It has been brilliantly restored, with the welcome addition of air-conditioning, to give a faithful representation of how it was in that pivotal moment of history. Each room has original artefacts and there are very lifelike models of the main protagonists. Consequently the whole museum is really authentic and realistic.

Any visit to the Battle Box starts with a compulsory guided tour. These take place at half hour intervals during the day and are really good. First, because numbers are limited, it prevents the rooms from getting overcrowded. Second, the guides are very knowledgeable and point out aspects that a lone viewer would miss. Once the tour is over it is permissible to revisit all the rooms and spend more time inspecting all the displays.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this attraction. It clearly explains the background and events of a momentous aspect of WW II in a very accessible and imaginative way.

Two tips. Spaces on the tour are limited so book in advance on-line. When you have finished the tour, also go to the visitors' centre in Fort Canning Park, which is very close by. This covers many more aspects of the history of Singapore, is delightfully air-conditioned and in addition has free entry.

Thank you so much for your generous and warm review of the Battlebox experience. As you mentioned, the entire experience is built on authenticity. This allows an honest and accurate retelling of the events of the war in Malaya and Singapore based wholly on historical sources, both institutional and personal. We are gratified that the Battlebox experience has left you with a better, richer and nuanced understanding of the dynamics and factors that led to the Fall of Singapore in 1942. Thank you also for sharing tips on how to get the best out of the tour from a participant's perspective. We hope to see you again when you next visit Singapore.

Battlebox is pretty cool, and definitely a different side than the glitzy Marina Bay Area.

Sign up for a tour in advance online. The guide will give you a 30-min introduction the to history, and then you can spend as much time as you want in the museum itself. We stayed for about 90 minutes.

I had the honour to visit Battlebox earlier in September.
George hosted my friends and I during the tour and he made the tour exciting, informative and definitely interactive.

It is a half hour guided tour that takes us through the different rooms and highlights of what to look out for. After that we were left to explore the history behind the Battlebox & the war. It is insightful as there are alot of details that were not taught or shared in schools' syllabus.

This is a private museum and no photography or videography is allowed. And we definitely respect the privacy of this place. Hence, if you would like to find out more. Please do check this out.

Our family joined tour of the Battlebox over the weekend and we had a wonderful time understanding the reasons for the British surrender during the 2nd WW. The tour started with a guide bringing us through the rooms and explaining the significance of figurines and displays. The place was very well maintained and spotlessly clean. This was really an event day and we enjoyed the tour around Battlebox.

Your visit will comprise a 40 minute guided tour and a subsequent exploration of the historic site and its exhibit on your own (No time limit except opening hours).

Our Guide did very well in providing an introduction to the history and highlighting the most important events and facts. This makes the visit suitable both for people less interested in history in general as they can get a quick and interesting experience on the history and at the same time people with a desire for more details and knowledge gets a good introduction before exploring the exhibits.

Overall the tour is very well arranged and the exhibits are of great quality. Personally I learned several things I did not know before my visit eventhough I read quite a lot about history and WWII.

I can strongly recommend this attraction together with a walk of the park settings, which by themselves are quite beautiful.

Our guided tour was facilitated by Joanne who was simply spectacular. Her tour was engaging and full of historical facts which kept me hooked throughout the 30-40min experience. Her delivery was clear and concise, never lecturing nor droning.

As the Battle Box is also air-conditioned and cosy, do not hesitate to try the tour and learn some interesting tidbits about Singapore in WW2 if you're ever in the area.

My family and I had a wonderful time visiting the Battlebox today. As Singaporeans, we learnt so much about the history of Singapore and it was very interesting to listen to the very kind and knowledgeable Helena who showed us around, sharing information and stories. It was also nice to see old artefacts, building structures and lovely watching all the old films. This 2.5hrs tour was nothing like the other museums and highly recommended for all to visit.

What a great tour! We were taken around the bunker where General Percival made the overwhelming decision to surrender Singapore in WW2 by Shaun, our passionate, enthusiastic and very knowledgable guide. He kept the interest levels high for WW2 aficionados and general visitors alike. By the time you ‘witness’ the meeting where the decision was taken, you’re as emotionally involved as the people who were there at the time! It’s a seamless operation - from the buying of tickets, to the gathering of the tour group, to the tour itself. Shaun made sure everyone felt involved and was comfortable (an older lady always got a seat) and could hear him. Get away from the usual Singapore sites, and do the tour. You won’t regret it.

Singapore is a modern day marvel of commerce and architecture, we spent days exploring its world-famous venues, but we would have missed an important part of its history if we hadn't made time for the Battlebox tour. Wherever you're coming from, your country likely has it's own WWII narrative. It was fascinating to learn the role Singapore played, why the British surrendered, and how WWII was seen through Singaporean eyes. Our tour guide was exceptional. She told the story with deft skill providing great details along the way to a super satisfying ending. We definitely found the Battlebox worth the time and money.

Had a wonderful guided tour conducted by Joanne. She was friendly, super informative and spoke loud enough for everyone to hear.
Finding the battlebox was easy as the website has very clear instructions on how to get there from 2 nearby MRT stations on their website.
The half hour guided tour is enough to get the gist of what went on in there and the surrounds, you can then stay behind for as long as you like afterward to self-guide.

Definitely book in because group spots are limited due to the size of the rooms.
