We spent a lovely day with our guide, William, exploring the food culture and food history of Singapore. We have lived in Singapore for a while, so this was a great way to get a deeper understanding of the hawker culture, explore some new restaurants we haven't been to before, and walk around this beautiful city with a guide who loves and appreciates Singapore. We went with our 14-year-old son and he loved it too, as he is quite adventurous with food and was happy to try it all. I'd recommend an afternoon with William, as he is kind, knowledgeable, and knows where to find delicious Malay, Chinese, and Indian eats!

William was a wonderful tour guide. It was just me and he took time to show me places to visit in town, how to get there, and provided insightful information about the history of Singapore along with the food tastings. There was so much food I was stuffed by the end!!

We started with a traditional Malaysian breakfast (so much food) and dessert, then traveled to Little India to get a variety of flavors of breads, dipping sauces, another dessert and interesting drink, and ended the tour in China Town tasting spring rolls and dumplings near the Buddha Relic Temple. I think he would have kept feeding me if I could eat more. Ha!

Along with all the food, William was thoughtful and kind. I got lost finding him so he asked me to wait and he came to get me. He kept in contact via WhatsApp before the tour and when I got lost too. He was very patient with me when I asked lots of questions. He also gave me some post cards of places to visit in Singapore, a really nice (and unexpected) keepsake.

As a first generation Singaporean, and 70 years old, he was super knowledgeable about the country and how it came to exist as we know it today. I asked many questions and he was happy to answer them with honesty.

If you don’t mind spending a little more on a private tour, the food and information was really good.

Note: Bring a few extra Singapore dollars bc you’ll have to purchase your own metro card and fare to the different stops (about $5 Singapore dollars needed per person).

We did the families version of this With Locals tour - the Tasty Tour for Little Foodies - and our tour with William was a highlight of our visit to Singapore. William was immensely kind to our children, aged 7 and 12. On learning the boys loved prata William took them them over to a stall to watch the amazing process of it being made. This tour is terrific value, and every single dish we tried was absolutely delicious. To be honest our youngest isn't a great foodie, but William gently encouraged him to try everything, resulting in him trying new foods and announcing at the end of the tour 'I love Singapore food!'. This tour is a wonderful way to try authentic Singaporean hawker dishes and learn about the history and culture of this unique city along the way. Many thanks William for some wonderful memories!

Before you book, you should know that you are not going to visit 10 different food spots and receive 10 different tastings. You will visit 3 stops and receive 2 dishes (1 being an appetizer) and 1 drink at each stop. It doesn't come out to 10 but close enough. All the dishes we tried were amazing. Even though my boyfriend and I shared our dishes, we were definitely SO FULL by the end of the tour. The tour includes needing to take the MRT so beware that you are expected to pay for that yourself. Although we had a great time and our tour guide was informative, we felt like this was really pricey for what we got. On average, a plate of food is about S$6, and appetizer S$3, and a drink is about S$2. Again, we shared our dishes/appetizers so food/drinks cost a total of S$30 so that's about USD$20. The total cost of this activity was nearly USD$200 for a total of 2 people, and we had to pay for our own MRT fees. The tour was about 1.5 hours and so I'm not super happy about the price. You're telling me that I basically paid someone $180 to walk me to 3 spots in Singapore for 1.5 hours? I paid a tour $70 total for 2 people for a 4 hour bike ride that included beverages. This activity definitely needs to lower it's rate considering how much of it is really spent on food.

Trained local guide: Hard to hear, only loud enough for one person standing uncomfortably close to be able to hear

7 food tastings from 3 different cuisines: True
3 drink tasting from 3 different cuisines: True

Private Tour - Only your travel party & your guide: Save your money and go on the bike tour, you learn way more and find better food for WAY LESS than this

Make on-the-spot changes to the tour: Tour change requested at the start (we were asked if we wanted any changes) and asked to skip one area and spend more time in another. This was not done even when asked again. We were ready to be done before the 2nd stop.

Local tips & recommendations: Some useful information to be sure, you can get all of it on the bike tour.

All in all, this was a terrible enough experience for us to take the time to leave a review. Unfortunately we cannot request a refund.

We had a wonderful time with Marcus tasting the food of Chinatown, Little India, and the Malaysian area of Singapore. Marcus was a wealth of knowledge and told us all about the history of Singapore as well as the modern day challenges and solutions. We had more food than we could possibly eat, and especially at the end felt bad that we had to leave food behind.

The itinerary wasn’t quite as described on the website, because we were able to walk to all of the venues and get an in depth perception of Singapore as we walked around. We only wish that we had more time to spend here to put what we learned from Marcus into practice as we were too exhausted by the end of the tour to spend much more time exploring on our own.

Bottom line, it’s a great tour and we are so glad we did it. Thanks Marcus.

Our family of five with kids ages 6, 9, and 12 really enjoyed our time with William. We had a variety of cuisines and learned about the history of them as well. William is very friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly loves his work and wants to be sure that you enjoy yourself while learning and experiencing something new. He is very attentive and caters the tour and food selections to your group. My 6 year old spent the tour hand-in-hand with William and loved exploring with him. Highly recommend!

We had a three hour food tour with William and can’t rave about it enough. We ate our way through Kampong Glam, Chinatown and Little India, with lots of history and anecdotes thrown in. A native Singaporean, you can’t ask for someone more knowledgeable than William! (Bonus: All the vendors know him, so no standing in line—they see him and start serving up food!)

We've done many food tours all over the world (Greece, Rome, Japan, Bahamas, Hawaii, etc) but we have experienced in Singapore the best one we've ever had! William is not only very knowledgeable about the food culture in Singapore but also the country's history. He went above and beyond with our customized tour of Michelin rated food and gave us an experience we will not forget. He brought supplies for our tour (napkins, utensils etc) and anticipated our needs even before we ask. He went out of his way to get a sample of a food we couldn't go to from another restaurant because it was out of our way and brought them for us. He responds quickly and easy to communicate with. What an outstanding guide! Thank you, William!

Where do I even start! We were attracted to William initially because
of the amazing reviews. My girlfriend and I were in Singapore for a
short time and we wanted to get the taste and background of it. We
were promptly greeted by William at our scheduled time. He was one of
the nicest people we have ever met. He was all smiles the entire tour
which really made it an amazing experience for us. We were expecting
only a food tour but he made a strong effort to educate us on the
diverse culture and background of Singapore. He frequently asked us if
we needed a break or water along the way and made sure we were well
taken care of. He even was helpful before the tour recommending us
places to go eat the first couple of days we were there. We were there
during Chinese New Year but William went out of his way to make sure
we still got the full experience. He made it known to us that we could
get in touch with him and ask and questions throughout our travels and
even after our travels. Williams personality was truly an amazing
experience and made it one of the best tours my girlfriend and I have
ever been on. He was such a delight to be around and we will 100%
recommend him to anyone that we know as well as individuals looking
for an A+ experience. Thank you so much William!!!
