About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- elizabethgT8735OY0 contributionsThree neighborhoods could not be more different!Super fun morning tour with a couple friends. None of us had spent time in Singapore before, and we left full and better informed than we started out! It’s totally wild bouncing from an Indian clothing bazaar to a Buddhist temple to a mosque. Happy to recommend this tour. The guide Gerry was born in Singapore and you can tell he really loves his cityWritten 27 February 2023
- W5272CZkaras0 contributions2 days in Singapore! Best Street food tour everThis was the best street food tour I have ever been on! Gerry was an excellent host, who couldn’t have done more for us. We got to experience ‘real’ Singapore and absolutely loved the tasting all of the local food. My favourite part was seeing the wet markets in Little India and the food in China town - especially the constant flow of Tiger beer! It is worth every penny, everything you see to eat and drink in pictures is included (and then more), couldn’t recommend higher and I am looking forward to taking my girlfriend on the tour when we go in August!! Thanks Gerry, from Danny! See you in August 😀Written 23 February 2023
- Kate G0 contributionsHighly recommendWe thoroughly enjoyed this tour, and would highly recommend. Gerry is great, his passion for what he does makes the tour. We had such a great experience. My son was 14 and he also had a great time. Left so full and learnt alot along the way.Written 18 January 2023

The transport system was very efficient and very cleanly maintained.Bus drivers were very helpful indeed. Overall it was very goodWritten 18 October 2022

As with other reviewers, I've nothing but praise for this tour. From picking us up at our hotel to dropping us back there later in the evening we had a fabulous evening of food, drink and discovery. This is the perfect tour for anyone who wants to find out about the real Singapore - the one that most tourists will miss. Gerry and his wife Jo guided us expertly around the city, ordering food and drinks, answering our many questions and even shepherding us onto the MRT - which gave us the confidence to do it again the next day. As for the food - well all I can say is, be hungry. Gerry knows the best places and the best dishes where the locals eat. Gerry is full of interesting facts which give a colourful insight into daily life in the city. Ask him what you want to know and he will tell you. Cannot recommend this tour enough.

Gerry was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide who made sure that we got more cultural experience than just strictly eating food. He told us about the histories of the areas we visited, as well as sharing his personal experiences. He also took us to more “local” areas rather than just the tourist-focused venues. I had a great time and would happily do this tour again!
A few things I would have liked to have known before the tour:
1) At most of the food venues, Gerry ordered a set sampling of specialties and then we helped ourselves, family-style. You don’t order for yourself, and as the tour description says, all food and drink, including alcoholic beverages, are paid for by Gerry.
2) There is a lot of walking in this tour. Be prepared for that, and be prepared for steamy temperatures and high humidity. You will sweat. A lot. Give thought ahead of time to whether you can deal with walking in the heat and humidity; it’s not uncommon for someone to need to tap out of the tour partway through because it’s too much for them.
3) I am a pretty picky eater and I don’t eat seafood or spicy food. Nevertheless, I didn’t go hungry at all! The variety of food Gerry ordered meant there was always something I could eat, even if it was something I wouldn’t have ordered for myself. So don’t worry too much if you have average or slightly stricter than average dietary restrictions. If your restrictions are more severe than that, I recommend contacting the tour operator ahead of time to find out what accommodations can be made.

A must do on your first or second day. It’s a great way to combine an orientation of the city as well as getting to know the local cuisine (double benefit).
Mostly walking, but also get a chance to experience the bus and MRT (subway) systems. Very interesting to get a chance to learn the cut-throughs of alleys, shopping centers and stairways. We did the evening tour…I believe the day tour has a market component, but on our tour we saw many shops and stalls along the way.
The tour includes eight to ten different dishes at both China Town and Little India Hawker Centers. Comes with drinks…either beer or non-alcoholic options. So many choices that even picky eaters or those with allergies (we have both in our family) will get their fill.
We came back to People’s Park Hawker Center a couple of days later to get some more. Favorites were the chicken rice, fried carrot cake (nothing like American version…think white radish) and oyster omelet. But many, many other choices of all types. Gerry (our guide) not only knows his way around town, but also know which dishes from which stalls to get. Last food stop was boutique gelato shop with unique flavors on Haji Street (near Arab Street).

Gerry lead us down small alleyways and through back doors in search of the best local food.
We ate from hawker stalls with the locals, tasted delicious food and sampled the local beer.
Gerry is very knowledgeable about the local food culture and Singapore history.
We admired impressive mural street art by Singaporean and international artists.
Don’t hesitate to book this tour, just do it.

The few hours that I and three others spent with Gerry our guide to the Chinatown, Little India and the Malay/Arab enclaves of Singapore-the nodal points from which the present city state of Singapore evolved, were memorable. I personally discovered Singapore this time, although I have visited it at least a dozen times in the last three decades.
Gerry is a fourth generation Singaporean and a Peranakan. He represents the very ethos of Singapore. The leisurely pace that he set as we ambled through the lanes of the above enclaves for his small group set the tone. The walk and his easy talk, interspersed with frequent stops for food and drink and the conversation that he triggered within the group made it a participative activity rather than the normal format of a flock following a guide.

This was our funnest day out in our few night stay in Singapore. Gerry was both a true local and highly clued up on showing foreigners a great time, building rapport with lots of humour. This tour takes you deep into some of the lesser travelled parts of Singapore, including Little India, Chinatown and Malaya town. There was a great balance of fun facts and serious cultural backdrop in Gerry’s approach. The food was top notch, with a lot of dishes and stalls we wouldn’t have known about. It was also great to hear the stories of the hawker stand owners. Would hands down recommend fitting into however long your Singapore trip is - thanks so much!

Amazing experience getting to try great foods with Jerry who really knew his stuff. It was really educational too! He took us through some historical areas and taught us about how Singapore has evolved. He took us through places you'd only know about if you were a local and it was clear he cared about his city and the people around him. The foods we ate came from small businesses to support them and any leftover food was donated to those less fortunate. All staff we interacted with were really friendly too and Jerry knew them all by name. I would definitely recommend this for someone to do at the beginning of their Singaporean holiday, as it helps you learn about the city, discover some great places to eat at some really affordable prices, and it even shows you how to use the public transport system for those who are nervous about this. Definitely a perfect way for us to start our trip here!

Gerry did a fantastic job with my travel group. Gerry was fun, personable and knowledgeable about the history of Singapore and her diverse cuisine, growth as a city and rich diversity of her citizens. It was truly a pleasure to spend time meeting the fantastic chefs that cooked our foods and the brilliant shop keepers who greeted us with smiles and welcome arms. I can not recommend Gerry’s tour enough as you will thoroughly enjoy the food & drink of this tour.

My partner and I did this tour back in May and look sorry Gerry for taking so long to write the review.
We had an amazing time with Gerry on this tour. Gerry's knowledge of history surrounding all 3 local areas and his love for Singapore really shone through the tour.
He took us to some places we did not know existed and made us eat some excellent food washed down with some excellent beers. We really got to see the cultural melting pot that is Singapore.
PS: Gerry - look out for my friends Cilla and Christina next week.

Gerry was a wonderful host and showed us local life in Singapore. He made us feel like guests not tourists. His storytelling was great and we experienced his wonderful storytelling to accompany the sights sounds smells and tastes of these communities. Getty curates relationships which were evident in several wonderful people sharing their stories

Is there a late afternoon or early evening tour?
Written 25 July 2023
Hi there! Is it possible to do a party size of 20? Also, are the timings flexible? We're looking to start in the afternoon if that's fine?
Written 5 September 2022
I actually don’t know however his groups have around 8 people. I would recommend contacting him as early as possible before anyone else books for that day and let him know your request. It’s very informal and the timing is self. paced.

Is it too late to sign up for the evening tour tonight? Janet
