What an amazing experience, it’s such a great way to fully immerse yourself in the culture ! The guide spoke perfect English and was so attentive , she took the time to explain the history and meaning of everything we made . The market tour was unique and the fish stall was so fun (make sure to take a pic holding a red snapper ) . After the tour we grabbed Kopi coffee and traditional toast . The final dishes were immaculate - so
Much more flavour than what we ate at the Hawker stall - the chili sauce is out of this world !!!

Denise was our guide, despite having some scheduling issues on our end she went absolutely above and beyond to accommodate us! Her enthusiasm, knowledgeability and willingness to share the Singaporean culture with us and make cooking a fun community activity amongst the tour group made this such a worthwhile tour! We truly enjoyed this experience and recommend this for anyone looking to better understand Singapore!

Fun and very educational cooking class with Colin Goh. We visited the wet market in the Lavender neighborhood, and learned a lot about local cooking ingredients. Colin bought some needed items there, and then our large group of 11 returned to the cooking classroom. We divided into four groups, and Colin demonstrated cooking techniques for making local chicken & rice; spring rolls; and a local dessert called Dadar Gulang (coconut pancakes). He also showed us how to make a headache remedy!
Colin was patient and we appreciated his skills as a chef.

The market experience was okay (although starting with the wet market at 9am isn't ideal as it smells fish and you see raw meat) and we learnt about some unusual ingredients. However our guide only bought a couple of them, everything else had been bought beforehand. Then we headed to the kitchen. We learnt that we were going to cook chicken rice, Ngoh Hiang (a sort of roll) and then Kueh Dadar (a sort of crepe with coconut and sugar). I would have like to know this before booking. The chef was alright in explaining us how to cook, but it felt a bit messy to start with one dish, then one of us started on another dish, then we went to another table to work again on the first dish - that didn't help the learning experience and I don't know how the chef would have done it if there was more than the 2 of us. The dishes were alright but not amazing, the portions too big for 2. However we didn't feel that these were dishes we could reproduce at home, because we don't cook an entire chicken, we didn't have all the steps (the chef had prepare the chicken stock in advance), we don't have some specific ingredients easily accessible in Europe, and the techniques (rolling the roll and the crepes) aren't easy to master.
To give some comparison, we did a cooking class with 6 other people in the Gili Islands in Indonesia and it was fun, very well organised and the dishes (curry, noodles, appetiser, dessert) were delicious and easy to reproduce - all of that for 1/4 of the cost - so it felt like a let down and £200 not well spent

Dear Poulet M, We want to thank you for your feedback but let us just clarify a few points you made. The wet market in Singapore is an authentic cultural experience that always smells like fish and raw meat and a mixture of other fresh produce, even spices. It is a real market where we locals buy fresh produce, unlike the pre-packed meats that you find in supermarkets. We only had to buy a few fresh ingredients for the cooking session because some of the ingredients are common Asian kitchen staples, and it would be a waste to buy more of them. And the chicken stock was prepared in advance because it would have taken many hours to simmer it into a broth and we do not have the luxury of time to do so during a cooking class. That being said, these could have been better communicated by us. We are sorry to hear that you did not really enjoy the taste of our local dishes and have problems replicating the dish back at home. Singapore’s unique cuisine is influenced by mix of cultures, and the spices & ingredients could be hard to get hold of. Perhaps you could look for an asian grocery store near you. It is also quite unfair to compare Singapore’s food, the cooking techniques used, and the pricing, with what you’ve experienced in Indonesia. Yes both countries are part of Southeast Asia, but the differences are vast. Our menu of chicken rice, ngoh hiang and kueh dadar is stated on our booking website, which you may have missed out, thus leading to all these mismatched expectations. We will look into improving the clarity of our website information. Happy travels! - Let's Go Tour Customer Relations Manager

Denise was our guide for this tour and she adapted well to cater to the local audience for the tour so it wasn't boring information that is only suitable for tourists. It was informative and we got to know our home country a little better through this tour. She was very clear with her instructions for the cooking portions and conducted the tour at a comfortable pace too!

My girlfriend and I decided to attend this Hainanese Cultural Cooking Class using our Singapore ReDiscover vouchers after being tempted by the 3 delicious dishes that we could potentially learn how to cook. We went for it not really know what to expect from the tour or the class.

And we were not disappointed at all! Chef Colin was a wonderful guide from start to finish. We started off with a short 45 min tour starting at South Beach and he gave us very interesting history tidbits that I've not heard of before. He was eloquent and thorough in his explanations, making the tour very easy to follow.

Then we were brought to the cooking studio where we were taught how to cook the three Hainanese dishes. Chef Colin had simple instructions for us to follow all the way, allowing a normally hopeless cook like myself to produce the delicious dishes we enjoyed. He was patient all throughout and helped us along the entire process.

I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to use their ReDiscover vouchers! Everything was prepared for us and we learnt a lot from the tour and the cooking class.

Colin was outstanding in his narration of the Hainan community as he brought us around in a 45-minute walking tour. We enjoyed the interesting nuggets of information shared by him. Also learnt much from his cooking class after the walk. Appreciated his patience as he taught and guided us how to cook Hainanese chicken rice, Hainanese pork chop and a Hainanese dessert. Highly recommended this well-spent time with Colin.

I attended the Discover Hainan Tour with a friend and had lots of fun learning about the history of Hainanese immigrants to Singapore and cooking up a storm with Chef Colin. With most borders being closed due to the pandemic, this was a fun activity to do locally and I definitely recommend it! The tour and cooking class are good for both locals and foreign visitors to Singapore. For Singaporeans, we can even use our SingapoRediscover voucher for the tour! My friend and I were totally stuffed with foods that we cooked. Good value for money!

Chef Colin Goh gave a short 1 hour guided tour of the early Hainanese settlement and it is well explained. This was followed by preparation and cooking of 3 kinds of Hainanese dishes within 2 hours. He is very systematic in his teaching. No time is wasted but neither is it too rush. Very efficient. His is also patient and does not shout around. Totally enjoyed the experience. Would recommend to anyone who is interested.

Chef Colin was a wonderful walking tour guide telling us interesting bits & pieces of Thai history & culture along our Beach Road & Golden Mile Complex in our Discover Thailand Cooking & walking tour. After the walking tour, we had a fun time cooking in pairs in the Let's Go Tour shop with Chef Colin helping out in the ingredient preparation while also demonstrating the cooking procedures. Our 3 dishes turned out really yummy! I would highly recommend this cooking tour to those who love Thai food and wants to have hands on experience in learning how to cook tom-yum soup (using prawns shells for the soup base), papaya salad and the coconut dessert. Although we can't eat in the shop due to covid19 restrictions, we had food tasting before we 'da bao' our food home. Really enjoyed the cooking tour!
