What to expect
  • Receive a morning pickup from select Panama City hotels, after which you’ll transfer to the town of Gamboa to meet up with your boat guide, captain and vessel alongside the Panama Canal. Cruise the waters of this world-famous waterway aboard a well-equipped covered boat, passing alongside cargo ships heading to and from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Your eventual destination is Gatun Lake, where you’ll have time to investigate the numerous islands and rich wildlife that populates its shores. Make a stop while on the lake at the Monkey Islands, allowing you to observe local howlers, capuchins, and tamarins. You’re also likely to encounter a rich collection of tropical birdlife, plus capybaras, iguanas, crocodiles, and many more creatures. At the end of your boat ride, travel to the nearby Chagres National Park for your indigenous village encounter. You’ll eventually reach Puerto Corotu, a city along Lake Alajuela, where a local group of the Embera tribe will be waiting to transport you to their village aboard a dugout canoe. You’ll then be served a simple lunch of plantains, fried fish, and fruit by your hosts, and have time to purchase authentic indigenous handicrafts or get a temporary tattoo created by an Embera artist. Then hop back in your canoe and for the return trip to Panama City, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

Nice experience of passing the canal, monkey feeding & tribal village
May 2021
This is our first tour with Panama Day Trips, everything went quite well, with Enrique both our driver & guide - very experienced I would say.
He was quite punctual with picking us up at our apartment, and he can understand English well. We are very happy to have Enrique, he also taught us how to see sloths, and gave us the necessary precautions (for example, before feeding the monkeys, telling us when rain is coming & when we should go).
Enrique is also very approachable - besides ensuring our safety, he even accommodate to our request to stop by a supermarket along the way, when we were hungry & needed to get something for dinner at the end of the trip.
As for the tour, it is a great start! :) For me, the highlight of it all is the visit to Embera Dua village.. we have never been to a tribal village before & we are happy to even experience it just being there!
Also getting to ride a canoe through the jungle.. although when we reach the village itself, the explaining of the villagers' way of life took abit long, for there were 2 translations - English & Chinese - that needed to be carried out with 2 different guides while the tribal Chief was explaining the whole thing (Just so happen there was another group from China there with us too).
Although we had no time to dip in the river mostly due to the double translation or see the rainforest plus it started drizzling after lunch at the village, we are thankful to get a taste of the lunch cooked by the villagers with fish, plantains & also some fruits which Enrique bought along the way!
Do not be surprised as well that there was also no water available in the toilets at the village. Just make sure you carry enough wet tissues or some snacks with you in case ;)

Great family adventure
From pick up at our hotel throughout the entire day Leo made sure we had everything we needed. Excellent tour guide. We went with our two boys (13 & 7) and they were involved throughout the day. No complaining or whining: we brought ring pops for the kids at the village and they were very sweet and gracious. Highly recommend this tour with Leo and his team.

So Fun and Interesting!
Feb 2020 • Couples
Leo and Walter did an amazing job as tour guides and we learned so much about the canal, wildlife and some of the people of Panama. I totally recommend this tour for all ages! If you are interested in bringing momentos home from Panama, I suggest getting them from the Embera People when you visit their tribe as you can meet most of the artists. Items range from $5 to $40 for some beautiful hand carved wood pieces and hand woven baskets. Thanks again Leo and Walter for a great Panama experience....We will be back!

Topday !!!
Jan 2020
We arrived with a cruiseship in Puerto Colon. Fortunately I made booking before leaving at home at Panama-daytrips to visit the Emberapeople and a boatride on the Panamacanal! You never know before what value you get for your money but this was the best day of our cruise!!!! Thank you, guide Leon and driver Jorge, and Cynthia for the booking. Very friendly people who made our private tour the best. A nice ride, with lots of explications, a very nice canotrip to the Emberapeople where we had a warm welcome. Also the other boattrip on the Panamacanal was great.
I can only say not to hesitate when you look what to do! we enjoyed this so much Thanks to you, Guys! Wish we could do this again!
Tip: when you go to the Embera, they sell little things they make but it is so good to take something with you for the kids.

Up-close with the canal and indigenous culture of Panama
Jan 2020
My daughter and I really enjoyed the day that we spent with Daniel on the Panama Canal Eco Cruise and Embera Village Combo Tour. Daniel was right on time to pick us up and kept our group on schedule throughout the day. He was friendly and answered any questions that we or other group members had.

At the Monkey Island area, we were able to spot several groups of monkeys and actually feed them off our boat! Daniel and the boat driver worked well to position the boat so we could really interact with them. We also were able to see a crocodile, several lizards, and other birds of the area. We enjoyed seeing the canal and the huge cargo ships that we passed up close!

Our time at the Embera Village was so memorable! The people were very warm and polite and hospitable. Lunch of freshly-caught fish, cooked plantains, and fruit was delicious and beautifully presented in a plant leaf pocket with a hibiscus flower to accent it. We really enjoyed their dances and the information shared. We loved seeing the children and interacting with them! Their craft products are beautiful and well-made. Much nicer to buy something there than in a souvenir shop in the city!

The ride to and from the village in the canoe was also great! The river area is beautiful and it was great to see the density of the rain forest area up close.

We really enjoyed getting out of the big city and back to nature on this day trip. Special thanks to Daniel for making it possible and teaching us so much about Panama!

I highly recommend this trip!

Simply Amazing
Nov 2019 • Couples
My husband and I visited Panama for a week for business (in the end of Nov/beginning of Dec) but had a couple of free days to explore. We decided to book the Panamá canal eco Cruise and Embera Village combo Tour with Panama Day Trips and we are so happy that we did. The day was wonderful from start to finish. Leo was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. He had some of the best customer service that we have ever experienced. Although our trip was over a month ago, and our schedules have been extremely hectic since Panama, we could never shake the desire to leave a review. If you are ever visiting Panama and desiring to take any type of tour, booking through Panama Day Tours is a must. They are truly the best of the best.

Excellent trip but little focus on canal
Dec 2019 • Family
We did three excursions while in Panama and this was by far our favorite! Daniel was an amazing tour guide, his knowledge of the area and wildlife made it very enjoyable. The majority of the day is spent on your journey to the rain forest, through the rain forest and at the embara village where you have an awesome lunch. The highlight for our kids (teens) was the canoe ride up the river where you’re in the middle of nowhere surrounded by rainforest and feel like explorers. They enjoyed spotting wildlife and waterfalls. After that we drove back towards town to visit monkey Island. To get there we boated across Gatun lake which is the midpoint if the canal, but this should not be mistaken for a canal tour, which is what I thought I was getting in part. I thought I had found a single tour that checked off all of our main boxes, culture, wildlife and canal. It’s an eco tour though so while you were in Gatun lake, the focus is still on the wildlife. Daniel mentioned a couple of facts about the passing ships but it wasn’t as in depth as I anticipated. Monkey island was great though and it was easy to tell that Daniel was superior to other guides at spotting and calling the monkeys into the boat. Like I said, still an amazing day though and I’d highly recommend this tour, just be aware of what it is and isn’t.

Excellent tour
Dec 2019
Boating in the canal and in Chagres river was incredible. Visiting to Embera village and lunch there with cultural shows (by Embera tribes) was very exciting. This is like a nature tour in water where we can see and touch baby monkeys and sloths from very close.

Didn't see much of the Canal, if you only have one day in Panama choose a different tour
Nov 2019
We only had one day in Panama so chose a combo tour (Panama Canal, Monkey Island and Embera visit). I honestly can't say I've seen the Canal as we only saw what is on the way to Monkey Island. The guide did mention some facts about the Canal when we were on the water and we saw Herman the German (the floating excavator) but that was it. We drove straight past Centennial Bridge and didn't stop for photos. The guide also tried to manage expectations by saying that we've already finished the Canal portion of the day (even though we hadn't seen anything) and tried to hype us up by saying this day will be one of the best in our lives and the wildlife is absolutely amazing but it was honestly fairly average. The monkeys aren't exactly wild so it isn't that special to see them. They appear when they hear the boats. The guide also explained how the monkeys are used to humans so they get stolen for the illegal wildlife trade and then said we don't need to feel bad about feeding a monkey a grape, quite contradictory. I did feel pretty bad for the monkeys.
